I really enjoyed this book; it was funny in parts and sensible (which I didn’t expect!) It had some great information/facts within it. I thought at first it would be a great secret Santa book, but actually it was better than I expected.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
I gave this book 3 stars. I think I was expecting it to be a bit more comical than it was. There were a few times I chuckled, and a few other things I agreed with, but it wasn’t a book for me I don’t think.
A witty take on all things Christmas from the vantage point of the new age snowflake society that we live in. A laugh out loud read.
The book is about how to survive Christmas for a snowflake - a snowflake is a term for liberal minded people, who are easily offended, not just about Christmas and New Year but many other political issues and climate change.
The book was a manageable size in one sitting, but unfortunately there were, for me, not many laughs along the way.
The book's chapters are based around the 'problems' with some aspects of Christmas... the tree, the cards, the carols, the turkey! It has a handy index, so if you have a particular vice, you can jump to that chapter right away. Each chapter discusses the problem, why it is such a problem, and then gives you some suggestions of how to problem-solve. You then have the funny solutions, hacks and hints and tips to make this particular element of Christmas that bit more bearable to you.
There were facts about Christmas and it's traditions, quizzes and a few problem-solving ideas, but from Dave Skinner I expected a bit more humour and a funny look at Christmas.
This book is just brilliant.
It's a must read for anyone and everyone regardless to whether you struggle.
It is definitely a book I will continue to pick up every year.
I love that this book starts with a quiz and promptly tells you that if you're average reading this book will probably push you to an extreme, it really sets the tone.
This book has a very standard format, set up the issue, discusses it a little and offers a solution. An unusual and pretty hilarious solution. This makes it easy to follow and means that you can jump to the most relevant section quickly, a godsend if there are carolers outside and you need them gone asap.
This would make a great stocking stuffer or secret Santa gift, and as a bonus can be used to keep snowflakes busy while you make your escape.
I read this book a couple of weeks ago but didn’t review it at the time as I did not find it funny or even vaguely amusing (it didn’t even raise a smile). Looking at a couple of other reviews I thought it may be may frame of mind so I would sit back and look at it again, I have done just that and I still remain of the same opinion.
It raises some good ethical points of dealing with Christmas, such as avoiding glitter, recycling etc, but many of the points are rehashing the same issues as many similar types of books from previous years such as the perils of secret Santa, multi generational family get togethers etc.
As I say, I did not find it at all amusing, but I am glad to see other people did.
Thanks to NetGalley for a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I had a lot of fun in reading this book and found some interesting hints and ideas.
It's well written, full of humor.
An easy, interesting and entertaining read that I recommend.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
What a great little book! I really expected this to be just a silly little book but it was full of great tips!! I have SUCH mixed feelings about Christmas between wanting to not upset my parents, but also not wanting to succombe to the waste and supporting of fast fashion etc I would highly recommend this for millennials everywhere! Its a perfect stocking filling and will be featured in my Christmas books I am excited for 2020
Tackling Christmas can be a challenge for a snowflake and this book is here to guide them through the season. Learn how to build snow people and save Christmas trees. Its all in here.
This was a light, fun read. Some of the sections were hilarious and it even had a few handy tips that people could actually use in their life. I liked all the pictures dotted through the books as it made it more fun and appealing. Its short and would make a fun Christmas present. I found the chapter on Christmas songs funny and the suggestion about the new John Lewis advert was hilarious. A couple of sections were not as funny as id hoped. The ending was funny and finished the book well. A fun festive read.
A funny quick read. I am not a snowflake but I do listen to the opinions of the snowflakes I know. I recognised a lot of what was said and that made me laugh. This is a fun stocking filler.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
I really enjoyed this book, it was well written, funny and very witty and left me with a smile on my face.
I loved the layout for the book and I was able to dip in and out of it over a few nights and read a few chapters at a time. The topics chosen were great and some of the comments had me giggling.
This is one that I will be getting for my husband as he often makes the comments that the author has done (probably why I enjoyed it so much) and this will be a massive hit with him!
I really enjoyed it, it is 5 stars from me for this one!
A supposed modern take on all of the traditions, irritations and pitfalls of the festive season. Mildly amusing in far too few places
If you read one book about Christmas this year, make it this one! This is an absolutely laugh out loud funny look at Christmas through the eyes of a 'snowflake' (easily offended person), covering everything from the turkey to carolling 🎅🏻 🎄
Thankyou to Netgalley for my ARC in return for my honest review of this book.
I gave this book a 5 🌟 rating.
