I'm usually a big fan of Lisa Jackson but I found this book really heavy going. In spite of trying it more than once over a period of time I was unable to get further than a third of the way in. It was just too predictable and I didn't care much about any of the characters
Unfortunately this book wasn’t for me. I have tried to read past 15% but I just couldn’t get further into it.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy
Ms Jackson is one of my most favorite authors, and unfortunately I am only getting around to this book now. I am sorry for my delay, because I was losing out on a brilliant read by a very talented author. Recommended to anyone who loves a great read from beginning to end.
I have been a long time fan of Lisa Jackson and have to come to know the Cahill family quite well. This book felt a bike different to me though and fell more into romantic suspense rather than the thriller I was expecting. It was more high society than reality in my opinion. The story still held my attention and I would say I enjoyed the book.
It’s the man wakes up with amnesia, has been very promiscuous leaving many women in his wake, and then the women start turning up dead. The way these women fawned over this guy kinda bothered me a bit. I kept thinking he’s a player don’t fall for it.
Overall I rated this one 3 stars and will continue reading Lisa Jackson as long as she keeps putting books out there.
I was given a copy of You Betrayed Me by Lisa Jackson by the publisher in exchange for a honest review. The novel is set in America. When James wakes up in hospital with his girlfriend Megan missing after an argument he along with the police must find out where she is. There are many characters in this book, each telling their own part of the story. The book is a slow burner it didn't really get going till halfway through but once it did there were lots of twists and turns. I did find the amount of characters each telling their side of the story quite confusing.
Interesting, Unique and a book I will be collecting for my forever shelf I have found this one hard to put down and have been completely captivated.
I adore the writing style, plot and characters. A great book!
Thanks to Hodder and Stoughton and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book for an honest opinion.
I was very intrigued by this book from the blurb and enjoyed it from the outset. There is a lot of drama from the start and throughout. It seemed a bit like a soap opera and leaves you wondering what might happen next and to whom. There were also some truly crazed characters and the rich James Cahill doesn't come off too well either .. Maybe it's his womanising ways with every woman in town trying to throw themselves at him. He did after all wake in a hospital, having lost his memory and then all he can remember is cheating on his girlfriend who now seems to have disappeared.
I loved the location in this book, the Cascade Mountains in the state of Washington and almost felt I could be there.
I wouldn't say I loved the characters, but they were very well written and I loved all the twists and turns throughout. I couldn't wait to see "who had done it!. Thanks for a great book to switch off from the real life issues we're currently facing. Looking forward to the next and to try out others by this author.
Twisted thriller with lots of twists. Not as good as some of her other books but an okay read. Characters are not very pleasant or substantial.
For some reason I couldn’t get into this book, I normally love Lisa Jackson’s books and get fully engrossed in them but for some reason i had to stop reading this one at about 30% and I’m not sure why. Even though I was enjoying it as I was reading I couldn’t concentrate or get sucked in and hope I will try again with this book in the future and throughly give it my all and love it like all her other books I love.
Outrageous Wealth, Outrageous Scandal.....
Outrageous wealth and equally outrageous scandal in this suspenseful family saga. A slow burn, character based tale which gathers speed and becomes more intriguing as it progresses with plenty of twists and turns along the way.
James Cahill is an attractive wealthy man with an even wealthier but scandal ridden family. When he wakes up in hospital after being found unconscious at his luxurious home one night after what appears to have been a violent argument with his girlfriend, Megan he starts to realise how his womanising ways may have lead him into trouble with the law. Megan has disappeared without trace after being seen leaving James’ house. Police suspect foul play and James is prime suspect however he has no recollection of what happened that night nor of the blonde that claims to be his mistress.
I found this to be an incredibly slow burn thriller which dragged somewhat for the first half however the ending more than made up for this and kept me gripped.
Many thanks to the publishers and netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
I am a big Lisa Jackson fan. Found this book slow to get started but once i got into it, it was a fantastic read. Plenty of twists and turns to keep you reading.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Another fast paced thriller from Lisa Jackson, I raced through this book on a miserable Saturday evening. Loved it.
I was so excited to get this eARC. I tried ... I did. I just did not like this one. I really disliked the characters and found that I didn’t really care one way or the other what happened to them. There was just no connection to them.
I am a big Lisa Jackson fan. Unfortunately, can’t like them all. This one just didn’t work for me. I found myself just skimming through to finish it.
Thank you #netgalley and #hodder&stoughton the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review.
The Cathills #3
The Cathills of San Francisco are famous for two things: their vast wealth and the scandals that surround them. Murder, greed and deadly ambition, some people will do anything to get and keep the Cathills' kind of money. Not that James Cathill wants any of it. He's tried to make his own way. But he's enjoyed many women even more. When he wakes up in a small hospital bandaged and bruised, he barely recognises the blonde who comes to visit. Then James remembers, she's the woman he's been cheating with. His girlfriend, Megan, had found out about Sophia and now Megan is missing.
I did not realise that this was the third book in the series when i requested it but it does read well as a standalone. There was a lot going on in this book. There's a mixed bunch of likeable and unlikeable characters. James .is a real cad and now his actions have caught up with him. The plotline was intriguing and twist filled. This is not your typical police procedural either. I quite enjoued this story.
This is an excellent gripping book. The twists and shocks are expertly delivered and kept me guessing. The characters were all interesting and intriguing. It is a delight of a book!
I would like to thank Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for an advance copy of You Betrayed Me, the fourth novel in the San Francisco series.
James Cahill, scion of the fabulously wealthy San Francisco Cahills, has moved to Washington State and established both a successful business and an energetic love life. He wakes from unconsciousness in the hospital to see Sophia, the woman he has been cheating on his girlfriend, Megan, with by his bedside and she tells him that Megan is missing. He has no memory of the events that led to his hospitalisation or of Megan and Sophia but neither the Police nor Megan’s sister, Rebecca believe him.
I enjoyed You Betrayed Me which has an absorbing plot with plenty of twists and turns. The novel is a bit of a slow burner in comparison with some of the author’s other novels with a fair amount of scene setting and character introduction. It is told from various points of view, the rather unlovely James, the vengeful Rebecca, the ambitious reporter Charity, the lovelorn Willow, the obsessive Sophia and the weird Detective Rivers. There is also a hint of what happens to Megan early on and the odd chapter from an unnamed imprisoned woman. This is normally the kind of setup that doesn’t hold my attention, too complicated and distracting, but in this case it is very well done and each voice adds a layer of speculation and intrigue. I even found myself wishing for more from the captive and that’s unheard of.
The novel is all about relationships with James. He has cut a swathe through the local ladies, breaking hearts and engendering a lot of resentment and bad feeling. As I said, decidedly unlovely but apparently irresistible. I must be too old to see the attraction. This provides Detective Rivers and his partner Detective Mendoza with plenty of suspects, motives and potential scenarios and makes for an interesting read. The twists come thick and fast at the end so most of the novel is an intriguing but slow build up. I didn’t eventually find the main motivation particularly convincing but the journey to it was enjoyable.
You Betrayed Me is a good read that I can recommend.
