Learn to Dowse was a quick read on the subject of dowsing as a divination practice. I was curious about the practice and I think that this book provided a good glance at how to do so and the author gave some examples of practices to try.
Thank you NetGalley and Watkins Publishing for providing an advanced e-reader's copy in exchange for my review.
This is not for me but could be for others. A few different tools in the use of dowsing and a start to the practice.
An interesting and quick read!
I had never heard of Uri Geller before I read this book, but he seems to have lived a fascinating life. He shares the history of dowsing, scientific information, his personal experiences and exercises you can try for yourself. He writes in a very easy to read and to understand style and I loved the layout and illustrations in the book. I can't wait to break out my pendulum and try some the exercises myself.
Such a fascinating book, I didn’t really know a lot about dowsing before, but this has taught me loads. It also took me back to my childhood when it talked about pendulum dowsing, although I didn’t know it was a type of dowsing until now.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
Oh wow I really didn't like this one. I'm gonna have to decide if I want to go further and formalize my review and cross post to goodreads. This is a book that is supposed to instruct on the divination of dowsing, but it constantly refutes the idea that dowsing is a metaphysical action because 'it's simply the truth'. So constantly during the book you are given brief asides to give the 'true stories' of dowsing, but they are never sourced or given in a way more convincing than a Facebook post about the event might have been. There is very little in the way of actual instruction here as well. I am all for someone writing about their personal method of soothsaying, but it needs a little more than "it's true and here's how I held it when it was true!"
This book is less about how to dowse and more about Uri Geller's personal experiences as a psychic. There's a lot of name dropping mixed in between simple exercises, but there's not a lot of depth to the materials at hand. The description had given me the impression that we would get a deeper look at dowsing than one would find via Google, but that wasn't the case.
I have followed Uri Geller and his career and appearances for years. This book is so easy to follow and exciting that its hard to put it down to try the experiments. Dwsing is explained in a manner that I havent read before probably because Uri actually is a talented dowser. The sequence of chapters leads you to think about the nature of reality and the great mental abilites we all have. My favorite part of theis book was Uri's story about a CIA worker and his experiments with plants. The reason it is my favorite is because it fits in perfectly with how dowsing works and what anyone can do with some practice and a pendulum or rods. Fascinating and well written. I know anyone wanting to learn to dowse or is curious about it will find this book a great read.
This was a fascinating book, although I preferred the pendulum crystal to the dowsing rod, because I already have one, maybe I will try the dowsing rod later. maybe not. I was not aware that Uri Geller was still dowsing, for such things as oil and gold. A good read.
What a brilliant little book!
Am very familiar with dowsing so was interested to see the Uri Geller take on it. This book is very easy to read and to understand. Its gives a balanced view of the history and use of dowsing. It also gives some fun exercises and really is perfect for a great party trick! It can also be used for serious and life changing questions too.
Highly recommended book for guidance, fun or even as a great gift idea.
