I honestly love this cover. The colors pop. The vibrancy gives me a little boost of serotonin honestly.

This is an interesting and useful workbook, designed to help the reader focus on what they need right now to improve their life. Each section explains a different aspect/technique of self-discovery, with accompanying prompts and exercises to help readers work through it. The lack of "woo" and "just do it, it's that easy!" mentality is refreshing, and the author offers actual usable information instead. I would recommend using a notebook or journal alongside this, as the space offered with the exercises in the book might not be big enough. Will this book bring you absolute happiness and contentment? No. No book will. Will it help you work through some stuff and improve your sense of well-being? Most likely, yes.

*Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with a complimentary eARC for review purposes*

This book is clear and straightforward. I like that there are tasks to accompany the prompts instead of just having the prompts themselves as I personally struggle to get into the right frame of mind to be brutally honest with myself.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

The Happiness and contentment workbook is an optimistic style workbook in a journal type format and has lots of different exercises and prompts to get your thoughts, feelings and emotions flowing.
The prompts and exercises throughout the book are easy to understand and follow and very much doable all the way through.
The aim of this book is to build on our happiness and overall contentment in life and by doing so learn to accept things, let things go and improve our life qualities and quality of life in general too.

The version I received for review was the pdf version and unfortunately I couldn't see any of the illustrations as they were just blobs of colour on the pages with a slight imprint of a drawing that I couldn't tell what any of them were and some of the pages were very hard to read because of this too which is why I have had to mark the book down to a 3 star rating.

A great book.
After what has been a rollercoaster of a year for many, this is a great book for positives and to help mentally.
I would definitely recommend it as a paper copy rather than on ebook format (my personal opinion)
This is a great wee gift if you know someone who sometimes struggles, it’s good for dipping in and out of when so needed.

This was very helpful to work through and I found insightful in many ways. For other people who are being hard hit with depression during COVID because our lives aren't going great, I'd recommend dipping into this for some help.

Every time I pick one of these types of books up I kinda roll my eyes and am like does this really help anyone? and then I purchase it or am gifted it and then have a moment of enlightenment where I'm like whelp I'm the type of person this book is made for.

The Happiness & Contentment Workbook is a thoughtful and useful manual full of guided prompts and exercises for accessing and building up our natural happiness and contentment and improving our quality of life. Released 6th Oct 2020 by Quarto on their Leaping Hare Press imprint, it's 176 pages and available in paperback format.

This is a quietly contemplative and useful book. The text is easy to understand and accessible and not at all flakey or "woo-woo". I was struck how much common sense and logic the prompts contained and how do-able the exercises were. Obviously not all of them will be applicable for all readers but there are a surprisingly large number of thoughtful points made throughout the text.

The art and illustrations throughout (see cover) are simple line drawings in restful colors and provide a nice counterpoint for the text. Each of the chapters contains some explanatory text - how to examine ourselves and localize potential places for change, how to allow ourselves to let go of rigidly held expectations, understanding pain, finding ways to cherish those around us (and ourselves), and a lot more. The text is followed by guided exercises with fill-in-the-blanks pages to explore our reactions and feelings: How are you right now, how do you feel, what do you need, what do you REALLY need, and many more. I sat down and slowly worked through a selection of the exercises (they're arranged roughly thematically in chapters) and some of the answers surprised me. The author does seem to have a knack of allowing the reader to think about the subjects in a non-confrontational and accessible manner. I appreciated that the author *never* engaged in magical thinking (just *BE* happier, see how easy that is?!). Instead, there are actual constructive means to identify what is holding us away from being content and finding ways to ameliorate the hindrance(s).

This would make a superlative gift to oneself, maybe with some journaling supplies, pens, paper, etc. I'm not sure exactly how well it would work for gifting to others (possibly a very close friend or family member) since it's such a personal and introspective book. I could also see this being a good choice for group therapy work or classes in some instances.

Interesting and valuable insights to be had as well as an appealing and easy to read physical layout. I thought some of the answer areas on some of the pages lacked enough space to really be able to answer *in the book* so I suggest using it in conjunction with blank paper or a journal/notebook.

Five stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I really enjoyed this workbook - it was very welcoming, easy to use and very creative. I loved all the information in the introductions to each chapter that was then followed with pairing questions. This is definitely a book that I would get for myself or as a gift - as a journal/workbook to continuously go back to at different points in my life.

Thank you Netgalley, The Happy Buddha and Quarto Publishing Group –Leaping Hare for the e-arc of this book.

The Happiness & Contentment Workbook: Opening your heart, embracing your natural joy by The Happy Buddha
Publisher: Quarto Publishing Group –Leaping Hare Press
Genre: Arts & Photography | Self-Help
Release Date: October 6, 2020

The Happiness & Contentment Workbook by The Happy Buddha is filled with writing exercises to help people uncover what makes them happy.

Immediately this book grabbed my attention. The introduction includes this line "Happiness is what you are in your heart, unhappiness is what you do in your head." That one statement hit me in such a profound way.

Each section and exercise seeks to uncover another layer and encourage people to do the work to uncover their truths. I would definitely recommend working through each exercise at a slow pace to really take the time to work through them and anything difficult that gets uncovered. I think this is a great tool to help find actual happiness.

A lovely book that makes you think about your life and the ways you can change your mindset. It would be nice to dip in and out of it and refer to it in future. A physical copy could make a great gift.
Thanks to Netgalley for an early e book copy.

A beautiful book that is clear and concise. I found the examination of happiness to be very comprehensive. The book consists of interesting narratives, questions to answer along the way, meditation prompts and quotes. The narrative is full of helpful imagery to aid the visualisation of scenarios. Areas covered include forgiveness, examining emotions, gratitude, beginnings & endings, upsets and dealing with criticism. There is also a large section on addressing different aspects of our inner self. I found this book very thought-provoking and inspiring.

The formatting was a little funky and some of the graphics seemed off. Otherwise, I like the font and would probably enjoy this in its finished form.

This workbook seems good from what I can read. However, some of the illustrations overlap the text, so I can’t read it all properly.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
