Love the Virgin River series. The TV shows are great, but the books are even better.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for the opportunity to read this.
This was a brilliant read and is being featured on my blog for my quick star reviews feature, which I have created on my blog so I can catch up with all the books I have read and therefore review.

Another enjoyable book in this wonderful series of books
I can't get enough of this writer and really enjoy how she writes
I'm so glad that I read the books prior to the series on Netflix
Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for ARC
Return To Virgin River by Robyn Carr is a charming contemporary novel about love, loss and community. It is the nineteenth book in the Virgin River series but can be read as a stand-alone. The reader is introduced to a charming community of characters and with lovely storytelling, this makes for a great heartwarming read. My thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest opinion.
A lovely return to this series of books, really enjoyed reading this. It’s a great community of characters and lovely storytelling, a great heartwarming read
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
This is a great addition to the Virgin River series, wonderful feel good read that you just can’t put down.
Kaylee returns to Virgin River to finish her latest novel and survive Christmas without her mum. An unexpected event forces her to accept the communities help and leads her life, in an unforeseen direction.
The story is relatable with easy to empathise characters in most cases. The animal characters add a heartwarming dimension, and the romance is slow-burning with conflict and a satisfying conclusion. Bereavement and moving on after loss are explored in this story positively and sensitively. Whilst Christmas is not the predominant theme in this book there is a festive twist, as the inhabitants give Kaylee new Christmas memories and show her the true meaning of Christmas.
This is a character-driven story focusing on Kaylee and Landry who both have life-changing emotional journeys to make when they meet. The cast of characters will be familiar to those who follow the series but to new readers, they soon become friends too.
If you enjoy small-town romance with a realistic edge and supportive community, this is a series worth reading.
I received a copy of this book from Mills and Boon in return for an honest review.
This January, I read Virgin River and watched Season 1 of the Netflix TV Show. And I fell in love. With the small town, with the characters, with Robyn Carr‘s writing. When the team at Mills & Boon offered me a chance to Return to Virgin River, I couldn’t say no.
Synopsis:
Return To Virgin River is actually the 19th book in the series. But the amazing thing is that you can read each book as a standalone as well. Each book is set in Virgin River, but it focuses on different characters and their lives in the same town. It is just the chronological part that changes.
In this book, we follow Kaylee. Her mother passed away recently and she rents a house in Virgin River to try and get back to writing and to cope with her grief. But as she arrives, she finds out that the house had burnt. Devastated, she goes to Jack’s bar to figure out what’s next. Yes – the same Jack we meet in the first book. He still has his bar, and the same old charm.
As she meets more people and spends more time in Virgin River, Kaylee slowly starts to heal. And not only she heals, but she starts to find happiness, love and motivation again. Because there is no better place to mend a broken heart than Virgin River.
My Thoughts:
I loved Virgin River, but I loved Return to Virgin RIver even more. Coming back to this town and reading again about Mel, Jack, Preacher and the other characters felt good. It felt like seeing your long distance cousins for Christmas, and talking like no time has passed. And I felt this, after only reading the first book. I can only imagine how people that have read all the books might feel.
I think it was also the happy tone of the book that I loved as well. Despite the sadness, grief and stress Kaylee was going through, this book shouts with positivity. The long walks, the caring people, the caring for the animals and the kindness – it filled me with positive vibes. And reading it during the Covid pandemic felt like the perfect escape. There is something about a small, fictional village that offers second chances that feels like home.
I highly recommend it to everyone that may need to find a little bit of escape. Or to people that love heartwarming stories, and second chances in life and love.
And don’t forget that there is a Netflix TV Show of this as well – with the new season coming out. Season 1 was incredible, and I cannot wait to see Season 2 as well – I am sure it will as good!

Return to Virgin River is part of the Virgin River Series, however don’t be put off if you haven’t yet ventured into the series it can also be read as a stand-alone book. It tells the story of Kaylee who having recently lost her mother and behind on her book she is writing, needs to escape for a bit of alone time, but from the moment she arrives in Virgin River things don’t go to plan and Kaylee finds herself homeless, step in Landry a loner who has a room for rent. over the next few weeks Kaylee finds herself being distracted by her handsome landlord and her attention turns from her usual genre of writing to romance, will her real life reflect the change. I really enjoyed this story as I have all the Virgin River stories, it is lovely to be able to catch up again with past characters and really is like returning home.
Return To Virgin River by Robyn Carr is the most delightful contemporary novel about love, loss and community. It is the nineteenth book in the Virgin River series but can be read as a stand-alone.
The novel is about dealing with the loss of a mother. The pain is tangible as a character tries to motivate themselves to live again. There are some beautiful words from the mother, “I’ll always be with you, but I’ll be watching from a new perspective.” Loss hurts. Loss cuts to the core but we need to live and to smile again.
A hurt heart still has a huge capacity for love. An orphaned kitten and an abandoned mother dog and her pups all need love and care. Refocusing on the needs of others helps the healing process. For the reader, the addition of animals turns a house into a home. We ‘feel’ at home in the novel.
The community of Virgin River always offers a warm welcome. Strangers soon become friends. Identified needs are met. The town provides Christmas parcels for those most in need. Thanksgiving, tree decorating and Christmas are very much community events.
Robyn Carr has created a wonderful set of characters. I enjoyed meeting up with familiar faces as well as greeting new ones.
Virgin River is a place where everyone, including the reader, feels at home. This is a delightful series and I cannot wait to read more books. Grab yourself a coffee, a copy of the book and settle down for a warm welcome in this charming read. It is definitely a hug in a book.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
A wonderful feel good read. It was great to be back in Virgin River again 10 years on, great to see those familiar faces whilst reading about new people.
Kaylee was a great character, her love and friendship with her mom was depicted beautifully, as was her friendships with the girls across multiple generations.
Landry was great, he never tried to tell her to just get over her grief, he sat with her, listened and asked questions about her mom, he loved and shared her with Kaylee.
Adding Mallory into the mix was a beautiful twist, I loved how Kaylee connected with her and opened her heart and home to her, and how Landry supported her and opened his heart right along side her.
A wonderful, warm hug of a Christmas miracle read.
I asked for the opportunity to review this book as I discovered it was a book series, after watching the first season of Virgin River on Netflix.
This book introduces a new character, Kaylee who comes to Virgin River to finish writing the book that she needs to. She can't concentrate at home as there are two many memories of her mother, who she lost the previous Christmas.
It's a lovely story and it does mention some of the characters who will be familiar to those who have watched the tv series.
This is the first book I have read in the series and I guess there are a few spoilers of what ends up happening to certain characters, however I still highly enjoyed the book.
Not quite what I was expecting for the return to virgin river but followed the general feel of the original story and was a gentle friendship growing into something more alongside with some all to familiar faces / names.
You don’t have to have read the first virgin river but it helps a little for character knowledge
Having seen the Netflix adaptation of Virgin River, I was really excited to read this follow up story.
Return To Virgin River picks up the story many years after the events of the first season of the Netflix series but having seen that, I already knew a lot of the characters and was so happy to see them appear in this book.
However, you could certainly pick this up and read it having not seen the Netflix series or the eighteen books in the series that preceded this one.
I must say, I was even more drawn to this book because it was from another person's perspective, this time Kaylee's.
To see how much her world and life grows as she ends up in Virgin River is brilliant. The author also does a great job of capturing grief and the difficulty of moving on from someone who was so integral.
I loved seeing Kaylee go from having a fear of dogs to taking care of a dog, puppies and a kitten and eventually helping someone else get through the loss of their mother. The community of Virgin River is so well crafted and built that you wish you could actually visit.
Return To Virgin River is such a feel good book that is incredibly easy to read.
I have to admit that I hadn't read any of the previous installments in the Virgin River book series but I will now definitely be going back and reading them. And I have A Virgin River Christmas on my to-read list for this December.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It has been a long time since I have been so sucked into a series as Virgin River by Robyn Carr! I first watched the Netflix show, before realising (thanks Netgalley!) that the show is based on a lonnnng series of books...hopefully Netflix will be providing Virgin River for years to come!!
This book comes about 10years after events in the first book/ series (and about 17 books on) I haven’t read all of them...yet...but although there’s mention of events and characters in the intervening years, it’s still easy to pick up and read in its own right. No need to follow a strict order here (though I would recommend the first book to set the scene of Virgin River & it’s key characters.)
Really enjoyable & escapist if you like light reads with a few misunderstandings & a guaranteed happy ending 😁
This is book nineteen in The Virgin River Series and it is Kaylee and Landry's story. This is the first book that I have read by Robyn Carr but definitely not the last. I loved how the characters reacted and the storyline with all its twists and turns and that is what makes this a brilliant book and it is so well written. This book has all the feels of a great community who helps those in need and that is just what Kaylee needs after her mother passing away and on a deadline to finish writing her book, then throw in her landlord and there chemistry and you have a brilliant story that is so well written. I definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed.
I voluntarily reviewed an Arc copy of this book.
Return to Virgin River by Robyn Carr is available now, and such a beautiful story.
I’ve watched the Netflix series first because everyone was talking about it and how much they loved the books years ago. I enjoyed it and had to read the book. I can only say that it didn’t disappoint, and it lived up to the hype.
Now, Return to Virgin River is a delightful story, addictive and so atmospheric that I’ve read in one sitting.
Craving for a change in a scenario for her mental health and to cure the writer block, she settles for a small town that welcomes her with open arms.
A second chance at love and life arises when Kaylee meets Landry and everything spirals quick from here onwards.
This is a great story about new opportunities and tiding loose ends, about finding love in less expecting places and dreaming of a future full of achievements next to a person that accepts you the way you are, with all the good and the bad parts that comes along.
For the lovers of Virgin River, you will enjoy this story even more.
4.5 stars
Many thanks to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley
I loved, loved, loved this story!! I have read a few in the Virgin River series and each time fall more in love with the town and its residents. I'd say for anyone who's not familiar with the series, you get more out of it if you read them in order, as your favourite characters make appearances in the books that follow, but you can just pick up any book in any order and it's told in such an excellent way that you don't feel as though you're in the dark about things due to missing previous books. I fell in love with Landry's character and how kind and loving her was to Kaycee, and her friends, and I also enjoyed seeing (can you say seeing when you've read it??) the growth in Kaycee as a person. I won't spoil it but the ending is perfect and I really appreciated the epilogue as I feel so many authors these days rush the ending so you don't get to bask in the warm glow of a happy ending for long, but that's not the case with Robyn Carr's stories. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book, and series, and have myself gone on to buy more in the series
Kaylee's mother has died. Faced with a looming deadline on her latest novel and no motivation to write she swaps her home in LA for a much gentle life. But things don't go to plan.
She's rented out her home in LA for 6 months, her new rental has been badly damaged in a fire. So is now homeless. But the townsfolk rally round and help the new stranger in town. A story of romance, family, friendship's new and old this book oozes the feel good factor.
This story had me drawn in from the beginning. The setting sounds amazing with so much charm. I could almost see the views! The characters are so loveable and relatable. The whole book has that wonderful 'hug in a book' feel. Perfect for snuggling up with on an evening.
