This is book two in The Virgin River Series and it is Preached and Paige's story. Preacher is a former marine and about to close the bar when a woman comes in covered in bruises and she has her son with her and that sets off all of Preacher's protective instincts. Paige and her three year old son to into the bar to get out.of the rain after leaving her abusive husband but can she find peace here and be able to hide away from what she is.going through. This story had a rollercoaster of emotions and that has you turning the pages to see what would happen next. I can't wait to read more Robyn Carr books as they are so well written and definitely worth reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an Arc copy of this book.
Wow! Just wow! I can’t believe I’m so late to the game with this amazing saga series of Virgin River. Having watched the Netflix show I was worried the book wouldn’t live up to how much I loved the show but after devouring book one I couldn’t wait to dive into this one and learn Preacher and Paiges story.
Right from the start I was hooked and in the edge of my seat reading it faster and faster. Robyn Carr is an amazing story teller. There are so many characters and interconnecting plot lines which only add to my enjoyment of reading without pulling the main focus away from the main couple of the book. The amount of time and research that must have gone into this book shows through clearly when dealing with Paige and her abusive past but also her fear of the future. The whole Ricky and Lizzie story line totally blew me away. I love the friendships these characters have with each other and the love and support they show each other. About 60 percent into the book and not a single romantic kiss between Preacher of Paige but they were still steaming up the pages, that there is some fantastic writing.
I’m really going to enjoy falling into the rest of this series.
How I love Virgin River and all its residents. It is a place you just want to visit. Robyn Carr writes romance, and drama so well, you feel like you are part of the story and the townsfolk.
After reading the first book in the series I was dying to find out more about Preacher, in the first book we are introduced to a quite man who will do anything to help anyone but you know there is so much more under the surface, he is like a big friendly giant. He served in the Marines with Jack the towns Bar owner, and now lives and works alongside him as the cook. When Paige and her Son arrive in town obviously very scared and in need of shelter, She has left her abusive husband and has got lost on the road and ends up in Virgin River. Preacher finds himself drawn to them immediately and will protect them at all costs. Paige is obviously very scared and has lots of personal issues to overcome but they have some sort of deep connection that is clear to see from the outset he also develops a strong bond with her son Christopher. Looking forwards to seeing where this goes.
What I like most about these book is that each one tells a different story about the townsfolk but also gives you snippets of how everyone else is doing too. We get mentions of Jack and Mel, see how her pregnancy is going. We get to share heartbreaking news with Rick and Liz and we meet Brie (who I adore) I just want to move to Virgin River!
With thanks to NetGalley, HQ and Robyn Carr for the much appreciated ARC for an honest review.
This is the second book in the series. I'm totally in love with this charming town and the people who live there. This time, another stranger and her son escape to Virgin River. I enjoyed this book more than the first one, probably because we already know some of the characters so the story flows brilliantly. It's an uplifting, family bonding, friendship making, feel good book and it's perfect for snuggling up for a cozy afternoon of pure escapism. I love it!
I have watched the TV show but the book is better.
I could happily binge this series but I’m pacing myself. The second book, Shelter Mountain was Preacher’s story in the main but it had such a great, interwoven continuation of Jack and Mel’s life, that it was pitched so well. I love the sense of family in Virgin River but apart from the scenery, it’s not idyllic and it feels real.
Preacher and consequently Paige’s story was centred on surviving domestic violence; it was a moving start to the story. I felt the emotions of fear and desperation and I couldn’t settle the whole story with that anxious anticipation. Preacher was such a character to be fond of and yet I still felt by the end that I wanted to know him more. Maybe as with other characters, Preacher will be revealed further in future stories. I loved his shyness and lack of confidence. His friends were the epic push to move forward.
There were a bunch of other storylines going on, less in focus, but still important and I do enjoy this writing style, where the main characters aren’t everything. I think Mike is going to be interesting and I’m convinced we’ll see more of Rick.
I can tell this whole series is going to be the perfect comfort read whenever I want that easy, familiar setting and characters. I’ll definitely be back for more.
Rounded up to 4 stars.
Thank you to Mills & Boon for the review copy. This one is already out and has been for 9 years!
