I've enjoyed past nature almanacs, so requesting this one to look at came as a no-brainer! Not only is this book stunning to look at, but it's also packed with a wealth of information regarding the skies, perfect for planning observations - I now know when I can expect meteor showers in 2021, and I'm definitely going to watch out for them! I would say, however, that a lot of the content was beyond my grasp. For amateur and beyond stargazers, this book is perfect, but complete novices may find themselves a little out of their depths.
Follow the progress of constellations throughout the seasons with this beautiful companion to the night sky from Astronomy experts Collins.
With the aid of easy-to-understand monthly calendars and maps, you will chart the rhythm of the lunar phases, discover events that light up the sky for brief periods, and explore the rich tapestry of characters that adorn the starry canvas overhead. You can delve as deeply as you like, or follow your own favourite subject throughout the year.
After reading ‘The Yearbook Of Astronomy 2021′ recently, I was looking for a book that was more for a novice and I feel this is a book that really does that well. With a very clear glossary and highlighted words, good visuals and a very organised layout that isn’t too dense, Night Sky Almanac delivers for those reasons incredibly well - particularly the ‘maps’ and guides in where to find things which I feel a young astronomer would certainly appreciate.
Night Sky Almanac also where some don’t gives us sunsets and sunrises, includes all events in the calendar month clearly and gives you a list of things to look for throughout the month and I feel is a very clear visual guide to the stars that would be good if you just want a simpler guide. I do feel the language can be a little too much sometimes, but as said before, the glossary is really good and does expand on your knowledge, it certainly did mine!
I really appreciate the facts, the calendars the book includes, the guides to the skies and the information and how it’s presented here - I feel like this is an excellent guide for a beginner and certainly one of the books I’d like a physical copy of as I feel this is a book that you want to keep checking everyday for something new to discover.
(I received an ARC from Netgalley for honest review).
This is a really great book for anyone interested in the night sky, with huge amounts of detail on what’s going upstairs in 2021!
A nice night sky guide. My version on kindle was badly formatted however which took away from the book. Images couldn't be seen properly and difficult to read the text on images. The book itself gave a nice level of detail and I look forward to coming back to it through the year
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read these books in return for an honest review.
This book is very interesting! I know a few bits about astronomy but this is quite in-depth and I really liked the images in it as they broke up all the text and made it easier to read. I think this book may need several reads to fully understand some parts but I don't mind this as it is something I genuinely want to learn about.
Rating: 3⭐
Would I Read It Again? Yes and I will use it throughout 2021
Would I Recommend it? Yes
This guide is certainly NOT for beginners!!
I was left feeling completed baffled by a lot of the info in this. It does have ALOT of information within it, but it was really quite difficult to make sense of for me.
I liked the info about the moons the most - as that is an area where I feel most confident. So I felt I got the most from those sections.
This would be a great read for someone who already has a base knowledge - but if you don't I honestly wouldn't bother with reading - I think there would be better books out there for beginners.
