This is absolutely one of the best manga I've read all year, and I'm very glad it' got picked up for localization. The art is stellar, especially for the genre. The story is a fun twist on "fan and rock star fall in love", with the rock star falling first for the fan, and then trying to woo her.
Such a cute sweet love story between two girls. Enjoyed the reading, Lots of misunderstandings between the two main characters in regards to what they truly meant and what they felt. Quick, easy, lovely read.

“I’m gonna make you fall in love so hard. So you better brace yourself.”
HONESTLY GUYS, we need this animated ASAP. This is SUCH a cute yuri manga. As many other yuri mangas are starting to give sapphics the positive representation that they deserve in mangas, Whisper Me A Love Song is one of those lighthearted shoujo yuri manga that literally does that. Nothing problematic or over-sexualized content, just two teenage girls falling for each other. I can’t wait for you all to read this. A freshman who became a fan of the temporary singer of a band at their school’s entrance ceremony, kinda gives me that “Given” feel, but a little bit more on the lighthearted side and with sapphics. I love that the manga also does a dual-POV of what the other character was thinking after the scene happened. It was a nice surprise. (I need the second volume already btw).
If you like light/soft-hearted manga with the main characters being a gay blushing mess, then this manga is just for you. Anime and Manga stans are not ready for Whisper Me A Love Song.
Thank you Kodansha Comics and Netgalley for providing me an eARC of Whisper Me A Love Song 1 in exchange for an honest review.
This manga follows Yori and Himari' story. Himari is a freshman, while Yori is in the third year.
They meet for the first time in the first day of school, when Yori sings in the school band and they instantly fall in love with each other.
I really liked this manga. The story was so cute and I can't wait to read the next volume.
I really recommend it and I would like to thank Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book.
A rocky romance filled with mixed signals between a high school musician and a sweet freshman.
Himari has just begun high school and has already found love at first sight with the lead vocalist of the high school band, SS Girls. Himari confesses her love at first sight to Yori, the lead vocalist, and declares her intent to listen to Yori sing every day after school. However, the declarations of love, at first sight, mean different things to each girl.
The plot is full of campy feelings and shojo drama. Himari is a funny and sweet character readers come to expect in this genre. Yori is a reluctant romantic but eager to meet Himari's expectations. The plot features five chapters with different scenarios, ending with a cliffhanger. The illustrations capture the humor and emotions of the scenes. The dialogue is minimal but revealing of the character's true feelings. The plot moves quickly with decent character development.
I would recommend this as an easy read and a romantic comedy.
I enjoyed this story so much! I found the characters really fun to read, and the plot line something new and unique. The art was beautifully well done and I loved the color pages as well. I wish we had gotten a little more from either girl’s friend group, but I suppose that’ll come in later books (or at least, I hope!). I loved our bouncy puppy of a girl that Kino is and the nervous but too cool energy of Yori. The cat loving bit was really precious as well!
The story between the two girls was cute and refreshing; reminiscing with what new fascination of what young love is like. While the story is intriguing and holds your interest due to Himari's bubbly personality and her first encounter with Yori, there seems to be something missing. Perhaps it's due to a lack of conflict or an obstacle between their growing relationship, and although it is only the first installment of the series, I found myself wanting to know what will happen next. Hope to see Himari's and Yori's journey continue and how their "love" will blossom. Thanks for the read and I'll be on the lookout for book 2!
I never really expect much from yuri manga. The plot and scenarios typically don't make any sense or seem unrealistic. This was a cute story (I did find myself slightly frustrated at the "love at first sight part) but I won't be reading further volumes if they have any.
It has been a very long time since I’ve collected manga series, but this one was so freaking cute and good, I am seriously considering breaking that streak.
Whisper Me a Love Song follows a Freshman as she becomes infatuated with an upperclassman that she sees singing at the school welcome ceremony. Hilarity and miscommunication ensues.
This manga was an extremely cute story. The characters were fun and likeable and reminded me of actual real friends and high school students. I loved the interactions between Himari and Yori. However, that cliff-hanger ending was not what I was expecting! This first volume was mainly building the characters and setting the foundation of the story. I am really looking forward to seeing how the story progresses!
This was such a sweet, wholesome manga and it was really enjoyable to read. Nobody could accuse it of being the most original - the characters were fairly stock, and I found the whole misunderstanding-based plot a little painful - but sometimes you want that in a story, and Whisper Me a Love Song delivers perfectly. I'm not the best judge of artwork, but I really like the art style and found that the characters were quite recognisable, which is always a plus. Overall, I'd say this is a cliche but charming manga and I'm excited to see where the series goes next.
Bubbly, energetic first-year high school student Himari falls head over heels for an older student Yori after hearing her sing on the first day of school. Himari immediately tells Yori she's fallen in love at first sight, because this is what normal people do, right? (OK, I guess not, but it was adorable). Himari is extremely cute as she pines after Yori and grills her best friend on information on her crush. And then... Yori confesses as well, but maybe she means a slightly different kind of love?
It. Was. So. Cute. Himari is super cute on her own and paired with a slightly tsundere senpai, she's frigging adorkable. Himari is more of a groupie, in love with Yori's voice more than the idea of being girlfriends, while Yori, for the first time ever, actually thinks she might be interested in romance. This discrepancy between how they view their relationship makes it even cuter, even though I imagine that in real life it would cause trouble. Determined to make Himari fall in love properly, Yori sets off on a quest to create the perfect love song.
Set in a fictional world where homophobia doesn't exist, It's a very safe and cute manga for people looking for some adorable sapphic manga. On top of that romance cuteness, I also enjoyed how supportive the other friends were of that relationship (all the friends were female, I don't think there was even one boy in this comic book). While Yori's love troubles are the source of drama, her friends offer some comedic relief. I laughed a lot at some of the friends' comments about the misunderstandings/the relationship itself.
I thought this manga was one of the cutest I've read in a long time. There's some so soft in the love between these two and the artwork is so gorgeous I could die. If you're a fan of tender yuri manga, this is a title you don't want to miss.
8.5 out of 10 stars!
OMG it's so cute and short (and gay), I need more!

REVIEW
Whisper Me a Love Song is a story about a girl named Yori who fallen in love with her fans after the said fans meet her. Will it only ends as singer - fans relationship, or there will be more?
The artstyle is like usual shoujo manga, pretty and all. The scenes are quite fluid too, it doesn't feel awkward. And I like the story, it's simple, fluffy, and fun. It use the usual "misunderstanding" manga trope but it still cute to read. Good for a light read. Plus the gay panic main character showed is adorable lol.
Thank you Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for giving me the arc of this book in an exchange of honest review. I really like it and will probably read the whole series too!
Himari is a freshman in high school on her first day she sees Yori an upperclassman play guitar. She develops a schoolgirl crush on her. This story is an exploration of their growing friendship and what that crush means for them. It’s a very sweet tale of a crush and friendship.
It’s been years since I’ve read any yuri manga but I was drawn by the lovely art in the cover and man, I was not disappointed at all. I mean, yes, it can be cheesy at a times but that’s what I wanted to read right now.
Whisper me a love song basically tells us the story of two girls who fall in love the moment they see each other. Himari sees Yori-senpai sing live and she instantly falls in love with her voice.
Blunt (and cute) as she is, she confesses to Yori, and fortunately she likes her back. We see how their friends tease them and how they deal with this sudden crush on each other. I’m sure you can find this story in any RomCom, but I found it quite entertaining if I’m being honest. The art style is really cute and I do want to see what happens in the next volume!
Btw, I loved that Yori-senpai is a cat-lover too!
I absolutely love this story! Two girls who fall in love with each other in different ways. The cliffhanger had me hooked. I need to know what happens next. Can’t wait for volume 2.
I used to read a lot of shoujo-ai and yuri (girls’ love) manga back during my undergrad days. Most of the manga took place in school settings, focusing on the romantic relationships between (usually) teenage girls. From what I can recall, a few of them contained elements of the fantasy/sci-fi/supernatural subgenres (i.e., Puella Magi Madoka Magica). Sometime during the mid 2010s, I grew weary of girls’ love manga plainly set in schools. So initially, I was worried that I’d dislike Whisper Me a Love Song by Eku Takeshima. I heard good things about it, and I immediately requested it once I spotted it on NetGalley. I ended up both surprised and impressed after reading this manga in one sitting.
Whisper Me a Love Song is a story about figuring out what love is. Himari and Yori, the two female leads, don’t struggle with coming out. Their friends already know. Instead, Himari and Yori both question their feelings for each other: is it a crush? Are they really in love? Are they interested in a long-term relationship, or will the flame go out soon? Personally, I’m taken back to my high school days, a time where I had yet to learn about my feelings of attraction and intimacy. The manga expresses those feelings and questions with careful subtlety.
After seeing the band singer Yori performing on stage, Himari falls in love at first sight. When she meets Yori in person, Himari professes her love. Of course, this leads to awkward moments and confusion. Himari’s simplistic and naive perspective of love is challenged, and she learns from her friends and Yori what it means to be in a romantic relationship.
This first volume is a gorgeous start to a promising series.
Thanks, NetGalley, for allowing me to read and review this title. Whisper Me a Love Song by Eku Takeshima is now available. The second volume comes out on December 22 (bookshop link not available.)
I read and received this book for free through the publisher and NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Whisper Me A Love Song is about a first-year high school student named Himari who is in awe from watching a third-year student named Yori perform in a band on her first day of high school. Striking up the courage, Himari addresses to Yori how she admires her and believes it to be love at "first sight". After hearing this, Yori’s response is the same. Or is it really? This manga explores how love can be defined differently between the two characters.
This is an introduction for readers who are interested in Japanese manga, especially yuri which is GL (Girl Love). As this manga is adorable and has a wonderful art style / character design, I do not find myself re-reading it. The manga did not grab my attention as much as I thought it would for the first volume. I wasn’t too attached to the characters in particular. As the first volume is an introduction to the characters and the plot, I didn't really get a sense of who the characters were in terms of personalities and traits as I was reading it. If anything, I would’ve like more interactions, whether they be friendly or romantic, between the two characters to be developed rather than a confession to happen right away. The characters would be better defined in this case. Himari was definitely infatuated with Yori, which was understandable. But it was a little too much for me reading about how she spoke about Yori most of the time with her friends, leaving me with little interest to root for her. I was honestly interested in rooting for Yori developing her love for music. There have been awkward interactions between Himari and Yori and I wasn’t too engaged with what was happening. The interactions tended to drag the first volume a bit. Overall, this is a cute and cheesy high school romance that does have the potential to mature the characters in future volumes.
Whisper Me a Love Song was surprising, the ending of the first book has left me very much wanting to read what happens between Yori and Himari, yet when I started I will admit I was somewhat dismissive of this story.
Don’t misunderstand, this manga begins as a cute story and I very much wanted cute when I requested this for review (thank you Netgalley). I wasn’t expecting there to be a heartstring-tug though. Himari is the adorable first year who falls for Yori at opening day concert. She later sees Yori and tells her she “just loves her”.
From here we have Himari, full of adoration for Yori and Yori who is unsure, because she likes, maybe even loves Himari – but romantically not in the way Himari sees her. The first volume sets the characters and story up, leaving you with a last chapter that has you wanting the next book to find out how this continues.
Also, the artwork is adorable. :)
This tale of miscommunication and naivety is absolutely fantastic.
Giving me the same butterflies reading YA books, and watching romance animes in my youth did. I found myself giggling nervously as I took in this story.
I am incredibly intrigued to continue reading this manga as it goes forward. Also browsing the all so common ads at the end of a manga, I was given the realization that I am missing out on distinctly queer manga. So I have so much gratitude to Eku Takeshima for bringing me back to something I used to love pasionately.
