I loved this manga so much! It had excellent pacing, and I loved the idea of a misunderstood “love at first sight” scenario! The art style was perfect, and the characters were very easy to love. I also found it interesting how the typical scenario of an underclassman hopelessly in love with a interested-in-a-different-way was reversed! I cannot wait for the next volume, I am absolutely hooked!
I’d like to take a moment to thank the publishers and netgalley for a free copy in exchange of an honest review!
Holy cow! This was adorable!
It’s really nice to see a manga about lgbt stories that isn’t hyper sexualised or rapey. The only problem I have with it is that it seems a little bit like queer baiting in some instances. I can’t tell if the other main character is just really oblivious or kinda mean?
I really like the development and how her friends didn’t question that she likes girls. A few throw away comments left me uncomfortable but I feel this may more be a reflection of attitudes in Japan about lgbt people versus trying to be nasty.
Overall a super cute manga with lovely artwork and nice development. I’d definitely pick up the next volume!
I really really enjoyed this manga. I couldn't get enough of these two girls. One of my favorite things about this manga is that it doesn't automatically assume that they are straight. The questioning being done in this book is whether they like each other, not whether they even like girls, if that makes sense.
I'm really excited to see where this manga is going to go and I just need the next volume in my hands TODAY!!!! I can't wait. This was just so cute and I need more.
So I want to start out by saying I am not usually manga as I tend to find a lot of it degrading to woman but I do love saphic romance so I decided yo give this manga a try. I am do happy I did! Both characters were so cute bumbling around each other. The art was also so cute! Plus being told multiple times by a cute girl that she is into and still wonder is so on brand for us lesbians! I really did just love this whole thing over all and I can't wait for the next one.
This was such a blast to read! The characters were so cute, so story was so cute, just all around cuteness and a really fun read! NEED to get my hands on vol 2
I read this manga volume in one sitting and I’m completely obsessed with it. I don’t have many coherent thoughts, but I’ll do my best. First of all, the art style is beautiful. I seriously took so many screenshots for me to look at lovingly every single day, that I don’t even know. It’s just so cute!
Second of all: Himari, I understand you. I am completely, utterly, wholeheartedly in love with Yori Asanagi. I have to say that, as someone who is a fan of Bang Dream! Girls Band Party, lesbians in a band is my jam, and this completely honors the trope. It’s all just so wholesome, and it’s just fun to read!
And, as a lesbian, their reactions and comments are just... so accurate and pure. Yori’s comments about how she suddenly understands what’s the sugar mommy hype is all about? I feel that. I’ve said things that are very similar to that. I’d spend hours rambling about it if I could (I’ve already spent approximately 45 minutes giggling to myself, minutes which may or may not be included in the time I spent reading the whole thing), but then again, it won’t be more coherent than loud screaming, keysmashes and emojis, so I’m going to consider this review done by now.
Just another detail that I felt fit more the end than another part of this review: I’m going crazy to read the rest of that. Hopefully, they’ll be available at Netgalley too, because I want to support the heck out of this author and this manga, so piracy is definitely a no! Soooo, since I’ll post this review there and on Goodreads, this will be my daily begging because I’m a broke lesbian who wants to get wholesome content. Please.
In absolutly lover thuis book. In couldn't stop smiling the whole time and i can't wait for the second book to come out in english.
Kino sees Yori sing with a band and immediately falls in love with her. As a fan though. She then confesses her feelings to Yori right away and to Kino's surprise Yori answers that she too has fallen in love with Kino at first sight. Romantically though. Will these two find their way to each other?
This was so cute I can't even! Nothing ground breaking or anything, but just perfect in its own right. The characters were adorable and it's so fun to root for them. The side characters were pretty great. I loved how Yori's friends were just so cool with the fact that Yori is in love with a girl, like that is never an issue at any point, everyone is so supportive. There were good moments of humor here and there that made me chuckle. The arstyle is nice and cute, no over the top fan service. I had such a good time reading this! Wish I had volume two right now.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was so cute and fun to read! I finished it so quickly. The friendships, misunderstandings and relationships were all good. An added advantage was that the secondary characters are equally amazing as the main characters.
Looking forward eagerly to know how the story progresses in Volume 2.
Thank You to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for this ARC!
Quick Thoughts:
-This was adorable, complete fluff, and all-around feel-good.
-I believe that this is the first yuri manga that I have read and it was a great introduction to the genre.
-While this was really fun to read it never really caught my attention. This is usually the kind of book I breeze through in one or two sittings right after I got it but with this book, it took me longer to get through.
- There is nothing I have any serious criticisms about for this book but there was nothing that really grabbed me and make me want to pick up the next volume.
-I'm sure that there are others who will get more out of this than me and I think that they will love this book.
While reading Whisper Me a Love Song, I was immediately struck by the charming art-style. Each panel is detailed and there is no shortage of cuteness. The characters are exaggerated but well-proportioned, which is sometimes a rarity for manga. Overall each of the characters is distinctive and well-drawn which I appreciate. Himari is a high school girl. She is earnest, sweet, and enthusiastically supportive of Yori, who is a talented singer. I don’t particularly find Himari or her situation relatable, but she’s a fun character root for. Yori is edgy and cool. I definitely like her character as a foil to Himari.
While I’m not really familiar with the yuri genre, I will say that this story is exactly what I expected: endearing and has lots of fan service. I definitely think that if you are a fan of the genre or just romance generally then you will probably enjoy this story. My only gripe is that with any musical-themed manga, I wish I could hear the music, but I guess we all have to wait for the anime now. To paraphrase: this manga is going to “make you fall in love so hard. So you better brace yourself.”
This has so far been my favourite yuri manga I ever read. Okay, I think I read three, but this one is super cute. I enjoyed that it's such a slow burn and the girls are giving time to truly understand their feelings for each other. I also just always enjoy a music story and that part is very well done too.
I think this is a great read for everyone who already enjoys the genre but also people wanting to check it out, because it's so soft and lacks the sexual undertones that I often find very off-putting.
God I am beyond happy that a publisher decided to pick up this manga. I've been a huge fan of the yuri genre for a while - it actually really helped me come to terms with my sexuality and feel more comfortable in it when i needed it most - and this series always held a special place in my heart.
The art is gorgeous, for one. Eku Takeshima truly has a way with shading, and all of the girls are absolutely gorgeous. The story itself, too, is just very soft and sweet and develops so naturally that I cannot suggest this more to others. I love the whole misconception between the characters - which is surprising, because I normally hate misconceptions - but it adds to the wholesomeness of the story and the girls have such a soft, gentle connection with each other and I love it so much.
Please check this series out, thank you.
I have been reading manga since I was 12 years old, I have always liked it and lately I really enjoy GL stories. "Whisper me a love song" is the first volume of a very cute and funny GL. Kino falls head over heels in love with his senior Yori's music, while Yori falls head over heels for Kino. The two will become very close and new feelings for Kino will blossom. I really enjoyed the relationship between the characters, I think the secondary characters have a lot to contribute in the following volumes and that they will be important characters for the main plot. The design of the characters and the scenery is beautiful, it is a story that I will continue reading since the end of this first volume leaves you wanting more.
THIS ENDS ON A DAMN CLIFFHANGER!
While I knew, in hindsight, that this is the debut volume in a series, I didn't expect to be gut-punched when the last page was flipped. I found myself emotionally involved in the progression of the MC's relationship. Never did I expect for a declaration of love to not be meant in the conventional way.
The art style showcases the artist's talent beautifully. The genre is strictly YA. Don't go in with the expectation of a fast-growing couple. Or any heat or steam for that matter. Treat this part like a gradual build-up.
There is much to be said about the secondary characters as well. They held their own while supporting the story. I simply loved, in the end, when author shared her initial drawings of the MCs and how it grew from there.
Now, how do I get my hands on the next part?¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Such an adorable and lovely story. If you haven't every read a Yuri manga before and what a place to start, this is definitely a good starting point.
the manga tackles the question of what does the word LOVE mean to people? especially to teens, who could misinterpret friendship and adoration with romantic love.
Really looking forward to following the future volumes.
I will start by saying this is my first F/F manga.
This manga is about two high school girls. Himari sees a live band show and falls in love at first sight with the singer of the band Yori. Himari eventually meets Yori in person and tells her how much she loves her and her singing. She is extremely infatuated with her. Yori expresses similar feelings for Himari. BUT their definition of love seems to be different or is it the same? That is the big question.
My impressions of the manga is that it was cute and bubbly. I had a good time. I would've loved for the "romance" to be drawn out and not happen within minutes but hey its highschool and that's how it is sometimes. So I can not say its too far fetched. I am curious to see where the story goes and what conclusion Himari comes to on her true feels for her senpai Yori.
Arc provided by Kodansha Comics publisher via NetGallery for an honest review.
This story is about Himari, a freshman in high school who falls for a guitar-playing girl, Yori. It’s love at first sight. Or is it? In this Manga, we follow the two girls becoming friends as Yori is trying to figure out if Himari is only a fan or has other feelings.
This was really adorable, and I loved the drawing style. I’m not really a huge fan of insta-love, but this was so cute, and I couldn’t help liking it. It was a quick read, and I’m really looking forward to continuing this story!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first experience with the genre and I have to say that I liked it, even though I expected more.
I love slow-burn romances, so if you're also into it, you should consider this manga but manage your expectations.
Thank you to Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for the digital ARC!
On Himari's first day of high school, she attends a concert where she sees Yori, an upperclassman/singer/guitarist, and she falls in love at first sight! Yori herself also falls in love at first sight with Himari, but it seems that each has their own definition of what "love" actually means.
The artwork is gorgeous, and the color pages are beautifully done. Part of me wishes the entire volume was in color.
I liked that Yori's sexuality is shown to be accepted by her peers and is not presented as a "big reveal/plot point." Rather, her friends are just happy that Yori likes someone, and their love is treated just like anyone else's.
This is the start of the series, so I am sure that there will be more backstories and arcs to follow! Looking forward to it!
