Whisper Me a Love Song was a stunning manga and even more heartwarming story of two girls figuring out what love really means. This was such a fun and lovely read.

Okay, so I think this might just be THE thing for me. Yuri manga was horrible hard to find, especially translated into English, when I was in the height of my middle school and high school manga reading phase. I think that Eku Takeshima has really captured the feeling of being a girl who likes girls and, even in the more queer friendly space of the story, how hard it is to be in love in high school.
That feeling you have as a teenage girl, completely obsessed. Is the object of your affection (especially if it's a person in your life) actually someone you love, or is it simply the teenage infatuation amped up. In my experience, it's always a mix of both, and I see myself so well in both of these characters because of that.
Whisper Me a Love Song is pure miscommunication, whoops we're actually both in love with each other! And I've never been happier. I can't wait to read the next volume!
This book was everything I was expecting: great drawings, music and love! Whisper me a love song was so cute! I really love these king of misunderstanding and I really can't wait to read volume 2 already! I highly recommend it if you are searching for a light yet heart welming yuri!
Rated: 3.5 stars
I think this was a very adorable story, it's about a Freshman who falls in love at first sight with a Senior at school performance. The overall story is cute however, I think it is a bit unrealistic when you first meet someone and falling in love with them. I think I can let the unrealistic development of the two protagonist go because overall I think the story is adorable and heartwarming. I am curious to see how the story unravels between the characters. I recommend this if your looking for a cute romance, adorable and something to brighten your day.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of Whisper Me a Love Song (1).
This was cute. I am not a fan of love at first sight tropes, and the story adds some spice by throwing in misunderstandings to amplify the plot. It is very light-hearted and sweet, but for me it was a pretty basic romance. Music is a big part of the story, if that's something that interests you, you will probably enjoy this.
This was such a cute first volume.
I haven't read many f/f romance manga but this was really adorable and wholesome.
I feel like if you enjoyed the style of Heartstopper by Alice Oseman you'll enjoy this manga.
I don't really like the love at first sight trope but the twist where there is confusion over a misunderstanding and it added a little more conflict to the plotline.
It's a little more difficult to review/rate a manga, especially a first volume as, obviously, the format and flow is so different from a full length novel but this was definitely a light-hearted and funny read.
I enjoyed the friendship's in this volume, especially the friendly teasing the girls receive about their feelings.
The best feature of this manga, for me, is definitely the art style. It's one of my favourite drawing styles, the characters show a lot of emotion through different facial expressions, everything is clear and easy to follow and is just so cute overall. It's very visually appealing.
This manga was a quick read because of the way the author knew how to keep us looking for more. The romance between the 2 main characters didn't start yet and they are knowing each other but they have so much quinic and I can't wait to read the next one. The thing that kept me so anxious reading the manga was the fact that they seem a different understanding of what is love but when you look more they actually don't and basically, we see a struggle in the parts to understand their own feelings.
I don't even know what to say because. God I love shoujo so much. This is such a pure and soft first-love romance...
Himari Kino is a first year in high school, and thanks to her friend dragging her to see her sister's band, Himari meets Yori Asanagi, a third year, singer, and falls in love at first sight. Or whatever she meant, because apparently Yori fell in love at first sight with Himari too, but they obviously meant different things. Despite going on dates. Himari you're so dumb I love you.
The volume has a perspective shift from the first to second chapters, showing both Himari and Yori's views on the band performance and their first meeting, along with their feelings for each other (or starting to develop feelings, since it's all very new for both of them). It was nice to see how both girls react to each other, I think it added a lot more cuteness to the whole thing.
The art is super beautiful!!! And I love how Himari and Yori's friends were all so supportive of their feelings/relationship instead of going like hey you're both girls and all that... more of this, please. I hope for future volumes there's more development of their interests, working through personal issues from Yori's performance anxiety, and please please please some more clear and open talking instead of miscommunication.
If you're looking for a quick, light and absolutely precious manga to read, this is it!
This was a diiferent kind of book. Using comics to tell a story. I was not really into the book. I read it but it did not appeal to me. I would recommend it to a younger group
I hate to admit this but I've never read an f/f manga. I know! What took me so long! So I set out to change that by picking up this Yuri (what the Japanese call f/f manga) book and give it a go! It's cute and follows our two girls: Himari and Yori when they first meet each other and from there the story goes on. The art is stunning, a little bit childish looking to my eyes but it's pretty.
Not too much happens in this volume because the mangaka was really setting up the characters but I feel in the next volume the story will move along nicely and we'll get to see just what is in store for these two.
Will go live on the blog: 11/30/2020
Too cute! We have the super cute first year student and the edgy, cool third year student coming together in this romance of misunderstandings. It's all about love at first sight.
I like the juxtaposition of the sweet, younger girl who loves things openly without inhibitions (from pasta to music to people) and the aloof older girl who isn't quite sure about love (until she really is!). This story plays with time as it shows some events from each characters perspectives, so the reader seemingly goes backward and forward through time. The double teaser ending will certainly have readers looking for the second volume as soon as they finish the first.
Often titles we see that are listed as "yuri" are fairly sexually heavy, but this one is all about those sweet friendship moments. It is definitely the right fit for tweens and teens looking for some wlw manga.
Thank you to NetGalley, Kodansha Comics, and Eku Takeshima for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Overall a cute yuri manga. Himari falls in love with Yori "at first sight" after seeing Yori play the guitar and sing at the high school entrance ceremony. When she confronts Yori, Yori is unsure how to react. After a moment of thought, she tells Himari that she may just have fallen in love at first sight too, though they may be misunderstanding each other's intentions.
I did enjoy this manga, for the most part, but it felt a bit immature to me. I feel like the maturity level of all characters needs a step up and this could be a very interesting love story!

Synopsis: The debut volume of this yuri manga is about a bubbly high school freshman Himari who falls in love with her senpai Yori who part of a musical band.
My Thoughts: While this is far from my first F/F oriented story, it is the first yuri series, in particular, I’ve read. Sadly, for my beginning yuri, it did not leave much of a lasting impression. One of the main reasons is how hackneyed the buildup is. Most well-written romances, from my experience, will naturally introduce the main leads in a way that allows readers to become acquainted enough with their personalities and life before interacting with their love interest (i.e. Always Human or Warning Label). During this book, however, we’re shown right off the bat that Himari is enamored with Yori because of her beautiful singing (in other words, love at first sight). In all fairness, most romances during youth years start with an infatuation which isn’t intrinsically wrong if it gradually progresses beyond that as the characters better know and understand each other down the line. But throughout most of the book’s duration, we’re stuck seeing Himari’s awkward attempts at flirting which I initially found cute but ultimately tiring as dragged on and a bit rushed. Furthermore, a good chunk of the story is driven by music so without a soundtrack to accompany the experience, it loses some of its charm while the dialogue sounded cringey in many places. That being said, I smiled during a few moments and thought the ending did leave some space for further character development in future volumes so I may stick around.
Final Thoughts: Overall, Whisper Me a Love Song was a so-so debut installment with a handful of sweet and fun moments. However, the cheesy dialogue and meh execution bogged it down so I hope it does improve in the future.
Thank you, NetGalley for this free ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
Such an adorable and loveable Yuri title! I was smiling through the whole reading experience! I can't wait to see where this wholesome title will take us in future volumes.
Is there any word in the world more complicated than "love"? It can mean so many different things in so many different contexts. It can be liberating, or it can come loaded with baggage. It can be the happiest word in the world to hear, or it can be heartbreaking. No wonder it can be so difficult to pop the "L word" for the first time.
But apparently not for Himari Kino. She begins her first day of high school by instantly falling in love with Yori Asanagi, the singer in a band performing at the school's opening ceremony. In a chance meeting with Yori in the hallway later that day, Himari can't help but blurt those words: "I fell in love at first sight!"
Needless to say, it's a surprising, shocking revelation for anyone to hear from someone they've never met—and certainly for Yori, the shy and reserved individual that she is. But Himari had actually caught Yori's eye during the performance, too, and she's not exactly displeased by the confession. In fact, she starts to think that she also found love at first sight, and manages to find the courage to say so…
But again, "love" can mean a lot of different things in a lot of different contexts. What soon becomes apparent—at least to Yori, if not to Himari—is that they mean very different things by that one small but endlessly complicated little word.
This sets up Whisper Me a Love Song for cute, funny, sometimes bittersweet romantic comedy. It's a story of two young women who are each, in their own way, head over heels for one another, trying to navigate this budding friendship and maybe (hopefully) more. Volume 1 largely exists to lay the foundations and introduce the main characters, but that doesn't stop it from having plenty of highs and lows. It works hard to give readers an emotional connection with the Himari and Yori and deliver on that, while also setting the scene for more to come.
The dichotomy between the two leads is where Whisper Me a Love Song's strengths come through brightest. Himari is bold and energetic to a fault, with no apparent filter—she says whatever comes to mind, with no care whatsoever about being perceived as "coming on strong". She's a little naive and a bit goofy, and when she sees and hears Yori for the first time, her entire world becomes about trying to spend as much time with Yori as possible, and to listen to her sing at every opportunity.
Yori is the opposite: painfully shy and reserved, and struggles to convey any sort of emotion. Before she met Himari, she didn't even think love was really a thing—and certainly not a thing for her. Despite the way they met, Yori actually hates performing; she did is a favour for her friends, and usually saves her singing for when she's alone. (But maybe singing for Himari, when they're alone together, could be quite nice…)
This juxtaposition paves they way for plenty of laughs in humorous misunderstandings and cute, awkward little moments, but it's also what makes the developing relationship between Himari and Yori so adorable and just a tinge bittersweet. To see Yori making her confession, knowing what sort of person she is, is beyond delightful (don't worry, that's not a spoiler—it happens in the first chapter, and is very much the inciting incident for the story that follows). Seeing her come to realise that maybe Himari doesn't mean the same thing when she says "love" is a littleheartbreaking, but it's hard not to want these crazy kids to get together all the same.
Even just in this first volume, Whisper Me a Love Song carries that dynamic to all sorts of funny, romantic ends, while also laying the seeds for even more romance and drama to come. Coupled with suitably cute character designs and a gorgeous art style, it's a great start to what's shaping up to be funny, sweet romantic comedy series.
It's a sweet romance graphic novel.
Although this kind of story is not my cup of tea, but the cute illustrations and the story don't hurt.
I can't wait to find out if they compose a song together.
Whisper Me a Love Song is a cute, enchanting story that plays on the idea of love at first sight. It's the story of first crushes, and miscommunication and love, and I was hooked from the start. The art-style is beautiful, the story is fairly simple so far but very engaging and I loved both the main characters, as well as the secondary cast, and I can't wait to see where this story goes in future volumes.
The wonderful thing about Mangas is within 150 pages we get such a beautiful story told through both words and art!
This one was a fun, light read! If you love reading about music and romance this one is for you! Plus it's already full of lbgtq rep that just fit in perfectly without seemingly off! I can't wait to see what this music duo do next!
Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for an ARC of this book!
Do you believe in love at first sight? This is the premise of Whisper Me a Love Song, the new yuri manga by Kodansha Comics. When I heard Kodansha Comics had acquired the license for this manga I couldn’t wait to read it! When I finally got a copy, I read this yuri in a couple of hours, smiling all the way through the story. Himari and Yori are the perfect and classic prototypes of yuri characters who make you fall in love with them from the first volume. This manga is perfect for fans of Bloom into You and other kawaii yuri stories.
Whisper Me a Love Song starts on the first day of high school. Yori’s band performs in the event that serves as a welcome for all the students who are coming back to school and when Himari sees her perform, she falls madly in love with her. When Himari finally confesses her feelings to Yori, she reciprocates. However, what could have been the great start of a love story turns into an uncomfortable situation when Yori realizes that what Hamari really means is that she’s in love with her music and not with her.
Even though all yuri stories have certain similarities, Whisper Me a Love Song brings in some new elements that turn this volume into a refreshing and unique story. One of these elements is the music. Although we have seen music bands in several yaoi manga, it isn’t that common to find an all-female music band. This is one of the things that made me love it even more and, in a way, it also made me empathize more with Himari. Her feelings are those of a young fangirl with a crush and that, added to her gleeful and innocent character, gives way to several humorous situations in the story. Also, the secondary characters bring a special touch into the manga. I love the way Yori’s friends accept her sexuality and treat it as something natural, without any judgement. Additionally, one of the bonuses of this first volume, is that they hint that Yori and Himari might not have been the only ones to feel this love at first sight.
The story invites you to discover these lovely characters and explore their feelings with them. Himari and Yori are two years apart and even if that isn’t a huge difference, we can appreciate Yori’s maturity and self-confidence, which make her more sure of her feelings. What’s interesting about this story is Himari’s emotional awakening when she starts to wonder if perhaps there could be something else hidden behind her friendship with Yori.
Nevertheless, even if I found this interesting, I also struggled with Himari’s confusion about her feelings, because it left me wondering if this story is really a love story or just a series of funny platonic misunderstandings.
Regarding the illustrations, I have totally fallen in love with the coloured pages the manga includes. The details these include help you collect these small fragments that help build up the story and that often might get lost in black and white illustrations.
Overall, I think this is a straightforward but engaging story that captivates you from the first few pages and that leaves you wanting more. The modesty of the story and the use of classical yuri structures makes you feel like you’re contemplating the story of some close friends from afar, wishing that they’ll finally be able to express their feelings and be together.
I can’t wait to read the next volume and find out where all this confusion leads!
Once again thank you to Kondansha Comics and NetGalley for sending me a proof of this manga.

This first manga volume was a lot better than other GL manga that I've read. There's still much to e desired but I'm curious to see how the story would progress. I really loved how adorable the two main characters are and I'd definitely read the rest 😍
