Oh this is such a good book. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because I kind of worked out where it was heading pretty early on, but that did not spoil the plot for me, or the enjoyment of it at all and I was still surprised by a few other things within the story.
I loved how fast paced it was and how many potential suspects there was, it really kept me wanting to pick it up to see what was going to happen.
Another great read from B.A Paris
This book was a slow burner for me at the start but as the story begins to unravel the anti picks up it's pace so stick with it!
A calculated psychological thriller full of suspects and suspicion!
This book was amazing. I was really drawn into all of the characters. There was so many twists and turns, and I didn't want to stop reading. Each character had a reason to murder, and I kept changing my mind about 'who did it?' Fantastic unexpected ending.
Thanks to NetGalley, HQ and B A Paris for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
I was very keen to get started on this arc, having read all of the authors previous books.
Right from the start I was hooked in and the narrative was easy to read and flowed well. The storyline was tense and gripping, real "edge of your seat" stuff. Probably not to be recommended for a bedtime read! The plot constantly twists and turns so the reader is swayed to form an opinion only to have it immediately quashed and swayed in a completely different direction. At the end I did have an inkling as to who the perpetrator must be, without knowing the hows and whys.
I did find some parts of the story a bit far fetched and unbelievable, which spoilt it a little for me, and for this reason I am knocking one star off. I don't think it's important for the reader to actually like the characters, but Alice came across as quite annoying and neurotic, and I wasn't entirely sure her character was totally believable.
Overall, I found this a really great read, and I'm looking forward to reading the authors next novel.
Thank goodness B A Paris is back on form! I absolutely loved her first two books but wasn't keen on Bring me Back - these Russian dolls! I haven't read the Dilemma as I was worried it was going to disappoint. However, The Therapist was fab! I love a bit of domestic, suburban noir especially this one where curtains twitch and all the houses are set on a cul-de-sac so everyone can see everyone else!
Alice and Leo hardly know each other but set up home together in a private gated community in London. When suspicious things start happening Alice suspects all her neighbours and even Leo who always seems to be (conveniently) working away from home, The previous occupant Nina had been murdered with her husband the prime suspect. I have to say when Alice sensed Nina to be floating about haunting them I pretty much freaked out!
Very cleverly written and a very satisfying read. So many twists and horrible neighbours, this is definitely my kind of book!
This was a high tension, psychological thriller. Very clever storyline which was very convincing. Excellent characters that seamlessly moved the story along.. The conclusion was very surprising and a great relief.
If you are already a fan of B A Paris you know you will not be disappointed by this latest offering.
Alice and Leo have just moved in together and have bought a house in the gated development known as ‘The Circle’. This is the first time that Alice has lived in London after leaving her beloved cottage in the country so she is a little unsure. In order to make things feel a little more relaxed Alice and Leo have a house warming and invite all their new neighbours.
After the party Alice soon realises one of the guests wasn’t who he seemed to be. The stranger soon makes contact and reveals that before Alice and Leo moved into the house the previous owner was murdered in the master bedroom. How did Alice not know this ? Did Leo know ? What must the neighbours think ?
What follows is Alice taking on an investigation of her own to find out what really happened in her new home. Did the police really find the murderer, or was the wrong person arrested ?
This is a great psychological thriller that you really don’t want to read when you are home alone !! This will keep you guessing right to the end and you will find yourself doubting everyone along with Alice.
Thank you to HQ and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.
Another tense thriller from ba paris, was really excited to receive this arc as I'm a huge fan of this author, and I certainly wasn't disappointed ! Fantastic read.
A very tense story couldn’t wait to read the next chapter and kept me up late at night there were so many twists and turns Alice and Leo buy a house in this beautiful gated estate which sounds simply lovely but I’m afraid that’s not true it turns out to be a nightmare and felt so sorry for Alice it was a really great read and wanted to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book
A fun well paced read from B A Paris, I find her books addictive and easy to binge in one sitting.
4 stars.
A tense thriller where we see Alice and Leo settling into their first home together in a gated community tucked away in London. B A Paris manages to make 'The Circle feel faintly claustrophobic which added to the tension as the characters were all able to watch and be watched!
Alice is soon disconcerted to find that her new home was the scene of a murder and she begins to try and find out more. It quickly appears that all the residents have their own secrets and, indeed, Leo and Alice have secrets of their own. Throw in a mystery visitor and a Private Investigator and there is plenty to keep you intrigued...
This was an interesting plot and kept me engaged even though the characters were not always relatable or even particularly likeable. Definitely worth a read.
I have to start with confessing I’m a huge fan of B.A Paris. I was so excited to start this book you would have thought I’d won the lottery!!!
Alice and her boyfriend Leo are moving into the Circle , a luxury home in a gated community in Finsbury London. Alice is a little apprehensive as she is leaving her cosy cottage in the country.
All is well .. until she finds out that someone was killed in their home and worse than that, Leo knew and did not tell her.
Alice starts to look into what happened, she becomes paranoid as strange things start to occur in the house.
When you start a B.A Paris book, time just flies away as you enter a magical world where all the characters are so lifelike, they could be your real neighbours!! I felt the betrayal, the emotions and was shocked at the end.
Another gripping thriller from this amazing author. A must read book that will keep you turning the pages wondering what will happen next!!!
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review,
Less fast pace and more slow burn to this interesting psychological thriller. I found many elements to this book intriguing and enjoyed the red herrings along the way which diverted continually from the more plausible who dunnit!
Alice and Leo saw the only way their relationship could blossom by moving in together, so this is where the book opens. Leo chooses a plush London home within a secure, gated development of similar houses. Alice has left behind a cosy cottage in a pretty village and a past that haunts her but feels positive that finally living with Leo will heal the wounds cut by the loss of her parents and sister.
Suspicions arise almost instantly however, with Leo cagy about connecting with the friendly neighbours and Alice realising that nothing is as it seems. A house party with a mysterious gate crasher and then the shocking discovery of the murder in their house turns Alice into an amateur sleuth. And on it goes with more strange behaviour from neighbours and Leo’s dishonesty over concealing the murder from Alice.
I enjoyed the claustrophobic build to the plot presented continually within the gated community. I didn’t however buy into the less plausible development of Leo and Alice’s relationship. I do think the lack of deepening attachment given to any of the characters helped in creating an atmosphere and the book accelerated to a suitable climax and satisfying ending. Overall, I enjoyed The Therapist but felt perhaps there was a bit of a muddle of mysteries within the mystery that were somewhat unnecessary and not always explained. Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read The Therapist.
Good little mystery thriller.
Alice and her boyfriend Leo move in a lovely new home in a gated community, but it becomes clear that not all and not everyone is who they seems after Alice discovers her new home was the scene of a brutal murder of the previous occupant.
Strange things begin to happen, Alice is convinced someone is getting into the house, is her mind playing tricks? As she learns more about the residents who live in 'The circle' she begins to suspect the murder isn't as it seems, them with the arrival of a PI Thomas Grainger, Alice decides to investigate further, convinced that the wrong man was arrested for the crime and the killer could still be out there...
I found myself a little like Alice, jumping from one suspect to another, so many red herrings, I figured it out just before Alice and was holding my breath as she walked into a trap...no spoilers!
Great twisty read.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book this is my honest opinion.
A great read with lots of interesting characters living in a gated street. Tense and pacy with a few twists, the story is very good.
BA Paris is awesome and this book was no exception. I enjoyed the twists and turns and while I saw the main twist coming, I still enjoyed the journey there. I will continue to read anything BA Paris releases.
I raced through this gripping and pacy thriller by BA Paris. Although I felt some elements were a little unbelievable but I still really enjoyed this.
This was brilliant! I was hooked from the start and it really had me biting my nails and shaking in fear during some parts! Highly recommend.
The Therapist BA Paris
This is the first book I've read by this author and I really enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the storyline and pace of this book, and I was kept guessing right to the end.
This book is a psychological thriller, and I enjoyed how Alice's attempts to figure everything out.
Thanks netgalley for giving me an early copy of this book to read before publication.
I must admit I struggled at the beginning to find this book very interesting, I live in a gated community and we are nothing like the Circle.
Alice left her country cottage to move to London and live with Leo.
Neighbours were friendly but Alice felt there was something they were not telling her which made her uneasy.
Until she found out what the secret was, and suddenly Alice was scared of her new home .
She then trued to find out exactly what happened in the house, which then caused her to be very scared and her life changed.
I did enjoy this story but would have to admit would really dislike living in the Circle with those neighbours they really were awful.
