Another rollercoaster of a book from B A Paris, once again full of the twists and turns we have come to expect from her books, this one doesn’t disappoint. Gripped from the start and ripped through it faster than a “share bag” of Maltesers (we all know nobody shares them 😂 ) a seriously good thriller which doesn’t let up, another great read and can’t wait for the next 😉
I really enjoyed this book but it wasn’t my favourite by this author. I didn’t quite get the obsession with Nina. Well written & all tore together nicely at the end I’d recommend this to anyone.
This was my fist B A Paris Book, and overall I was disappointed
Alice and Leo move into their new London house together. They have had a long distance relationship, so the moving in represents the next stage in their relationship. However it turns out their was a murder previously in their new house. So Alice sets about trying to uncover the truth as to what happens.
The murderer is obvious once you know, but I feel like there are enough red herrings to keep you guessing throughout. There are some interesting twists and turns, and even at the end new information is shared that does provide some intrigue. I also thought their were some creepy aspects, that I wished were more central, and played upon more.
However I found Alice so naïve, it was annoying. So I couldn't get past that. She points the figure at pretty much everyone, and it's only when some back story at the very end was revealed that I was able to find any kind of likeability in her as a character.
I am going to try another Paris book before I right her off. This book though was not one of the best thrillers I have read this year.
Thanks to Net Galley for providing a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Alice and Leo seemingly have an idyllic life together as they have recently moved in their dream home in an exclusive gated community. However, whilst some of her neighbours appear friendly enough there are those who seem resentful of Alice and Leo's presence amongst them and with Leo often away on business, Alice is lonely and keen to make friends amongst those who live close to her.
I always enjoy enormously the way the author keeps the tension cranked up to high in her novels which are all just a little bit different. Throughout The Therapist, and particularly when Alice makes a devastating discovery about her beautiful new home there is a decided air of menace, especially when unexpected things start to occur and Alice finds out just what deadly secrets her beautiful home is hiding. As always with this clever author's writing there are twists and turns aplenty and with so much going on with the plot to say too much would be to spoil the overall effect of the novel.
I've now read everything that this talented author has written and I think that her stories just get better and better. What is always guaranteed is a beautifully controlled psychological suspense/thriller, complete with a set of complex characters who you immediately either feel an affinity for, or who make your skin creep, but which have the uncanny ability to make you question everything on the page, and when all is finally revealed there's a definite sense of having read another cracking good story.
This is a fabulous book !
I was glued to its pages from start to finish.
Plenty of twists and turns such a rollercoaster of a book !!
10/10 !
The Therapist

Alice and Leo move into a beautiful property in the exclusive, gated community of The Circle. But all is not as it seems and Alice uncovers some secrets from the past. Finding herself drawn into the mystery and attached to Nina, the homes previous resident, Alice begins to investigate only to find the neighbours lips tightly sealed. What is the trust behind this home?
Another excellently written novel from B.A. Paris. The fast pace and mix of characters keeps you in your toes and wanting to turn the pages. I found myself changing my mind about ‘the person’ many times throughout.
Thank you to NetGalley, B.A. Paris and HQ for this fantastic ARC
I really enjoyed this book I have read previous books by this author and this is definetley as good. It had me gripped from the beginning and I did not want to put It down It had plenty of twists and turns too.
The first time I came across B. A. Paris last year. I fell in love with her books instantly.
I binged on "Behind closed doors" and "Bring me back". "The Dilemma" was a bit disappointing but when I saw "The Therapist" on Netgalley I just had to request an ARC.
I'm glad I did.
Good things about the book
✂️ London. You know I love the books set in London. That's one of the things that attracted me in the first place.
✂️ I just love B.A. Paris style of writing. Simple, yet descriptive.
✂️ Definitely a gripping read. Kept me up all night and then I couldn't stop thinking about it all day.
✂️ The story was so tangled and complex, that everybody was looking really suspicious in my eyes
✂️ I didn't guess the ending, which is always a positive thing
Bad things about the book
✂️ Too short
✂️ Looking back, the ending was kind of predictable but... Still, the author has managed to fool me. Guess I'm just an overthinker and/or probably not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Anyway, the rating is 5/5.
I really enjoyed it and now I'm itching to get my hands on "The Understudy".
Thank you @netgalley
I am a can of B A Paris but this wasn't my favourite book by this author. I found it hard to keep up with the main character at times and felt little sympathy for her.
A very good book but it is not as good as her previous books though it kept my interest until the end.
The therapist = not what I expected AT ALL. With such a title, you imagine a … well, therapist, or client, a nice office, and something going wrong. I don’t know who chose the title but I found it quite misleading and it somehow got in the way of how I approached the plot.
Did I enjoy it? Yes
Was I disappointed? A little.
The writing was good, the characters were crafted in such a way I suspected everyone, which is my favorite thing to do! I could feel the claustrophobia of the neighborhood cling to my fingers as I turned the pages. I’m all about living around people but gosh, neighbors can be so creepy/scary/insert your own experience here.
All in all, a nice thriller to dive into during a gateway weekend
Another hit from this author, keeps you guessing throughout. Forget what you think you know, enjoy the ride.
I’ve read a couple of BA Paris books before so knew the sort of writing style to expect however this book was slower and less gripping than the others I’ve read.
I didn’t feel particularly gripped and found the ending quite predictable. I like a thriller to be tense and leave me questioning at every turn - desperate to find out what’s happened but unfortunately this just didn’t do that for me.
I’m a massive fan of BA Paris & have devoured all her previous novels, so was really looking forward to her latest book.
The novel is set in an upmarket gated community, effectively the type of closed room scenario that I enjoy.
As ever there are numerous twists, lies and secrets. Alice, the central character, wants to fit into her new world, but becomes obsessed with finding out what happened in her home in the past. I also wanted to discover the truth and the pace of the story kept me hooked, even though I had strong suspicions who was involved.
I didn’t find all the characters credible, and Alice frustrated me at times. Not my favourite BA Paris, but still an enjoyable psychological thriller.
Audio: Narrator was excellent, lovely voice and the story itself was just really engrossing, and the audio narrator made it nice to listen to despite some of the creepy goings on!
When Alice and Leo move into a new home in London, Alice feels overjoyed. But as she gets to know her neighbours, soon she discovers something terrible - the previous owner of the home was murdered - right in her very bedroom. Something about the murder - and the verdict it was the husband that killed her - doesn't sit right with Alice and she finds herself eyeing up those closest to her with suspicion.
Like all BA Paris books, this served up exactly what I was looking for - a domestic suspense with fast, plotty writing and the type of story that had you jumping from one guess to the next while waiting with bated breath to find out the truth. I really liked this book from start to finish and while I wouldn't say the big 'whodunnit' was a complete gasp shock, I really liked how we got there.
BA Paris is brilliant at just bringing a story together from all angles, and giving you characters you like and distrust all at the same time. Her books are generally always very domestic in setting too and are not full of bodies and blood and gore but a normal setting of a suburban London street with kids playing out the front. And this ramps up the tension more sometimes because it feels like the crimes happening could happen anywhere.
This wasn't one of my favourites of BA Paris but definitely not one of the worst I've read. A good middle of the stack! And I definitely recommend the audiobook.
Alice and Leo move into a gated community called The Circle. Whilst Alice is getting to know her neighbours she discovers that the person who lived in the home previously was murdered. She feels a connection to this woman who was called Nina the same name as her deceased sister. She sets out trying to find out what really happened to Nina but it seems that everyone in The CIrcle is trying to hide something.
I liked the setting for this book. I like the exclusive community aspect in books because everyone is living close together and they think they know one another but they never really do. I felt engaged in this story quite early on however I did feel that I lost interest towards the end. There are a lot of characters introduced quite early on and at times it is difficult to keep track of who is who. There was a lot of build-up to the final reveal but I found that the reveal was a little lackluster and I wasn't surprised. Alice seemed to suspect everyone apart from this character so I thought it very likely that they were going to be involved.
Overall I thought this was a good read but sadly not a new favorutie. I am a huge fan of Behind Closed Doors by this author and sadly this was not as good.
I really enjoyed this book, I adore B.A.Paris books and this one didn't disappoint at all.
Lotof twists and turns and trying to work out the murderer. It was eery and made you wonder what was going to happen next. I also started thinking it could be anyone! Really enjoyed it.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for the privilege of reading this book for my honest opinion
This book annoyed me a lot, seemed to be very over the top, however there were parts that kept me wanting to know what was next and how it would all tie up so overall an annoying gripping novel, but not the best of the author I have read how ever a nice escape for the afternoon.
This book started off well, I was intrigued by the premise. B. A. Paris’ books allow you to escape and although this one was fairly fast paced, I don’t think it required a lot of thinking or concentration. For me, there was a fair bit of repetition throughout the bulk of the story and the protagonist Alice, just seems to be going round and round in circles trying to get to the bottom of things. I feel like we only scratched the surface with getting to know the neighbours within the circle, it would have been nice to delve a little deeper in to their lives. I worked out fairly early on ‘who done it’ so the ending wasn’t a shock for me. It was an easy read, unfortunately not up to the high level or standard of previous books she has written.
This was the first B.A. Paris book that I have read and, wow. I now want to read everything she has ever written as soon as possible.
The Therapist is enthralling, engaging and exciting from start to finish; the thrill is in how ordinary things seem and how delicately paced this book is. As realisation dawned on me and I could suddenly see where the danger lay, I was racing from page to page absolutely desperate to get to the next bit. Ordinarily, I read a psychological thriller and end up bored or fed up by predictable and far-fetched plots the regretting the wasted time. This time, I absolutely did not see it coming!!
Characterisation is flawless - every character could be your neighbour, your colleague, your friend and every moment felt real. By the time I finished the book at 2am this morning, I couldn't go straight to sleep - I had to watch something soothing before settling down as the book had me so wired.
I loved it and I hope you love it to. Thank you to Netgalley for introducing me to such a wonderful writer.
