We met Giselle and Devon in Not My Romeo (Game Changers #1 ) and they were completely different so I was curious how this book will work and let me say this again, Giselle and Devon are PERFECT together, they were made for each other; living in their own bubbly universe.
Devon, the charmer and the amazing character we met and loved in #1 just made me fall in love with him all over again, he set the standards so high; an alpha man who's not afraid to be soft and wears his feelings all over himself shamelessly.. WHAT A MAN.
He's a friend, a roommate, a lover and he has the biggest heart, he went through a lot, he has fears and struggles but it doesn't make him any less of the awesome guy he is.
Giselle, I adore this heroine, smart and intelligent but also a vixen.
She's a spitfire, brave, strong, sassy , selfless and the kindest soul to ever read about, she loves and loves, strongly and wholly, she doesn't back down and fights for what's hers and is willing to do anything to protect them.
"𝙔𝙤𝙪’𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙝 𝙖 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣, 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙤𝙣, 𝙖 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙄 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪, 𝙄 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙞𝙩 𝙜𝙡𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪."
this love story went through all the aspects, strangers to friends to lovers, they understand each other, protect each other and are there for one another.. Their story emotionally drained me “𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙙 𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙚. 𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙙 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙚. 𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙙 𝙡𝙚𝙩 𝙢𝙚 𝙞𝙣. ”
and I say it proudly that this book has the healthiest relationship that I've ever read about.
"𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙮 𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙨"
I'm utterly thankful for Ilsa for delivering this very inspiring and wonderful love story, they make my heart soft and I see butterflies all over the pages
Gah!!!
I freakin loved Not My Match!! This book has it ALL. A super-hot, total alpha, bad boy pro football wide receiver with a heart of gold underneath all his badness. Add to that, an intelligent, unconventional free-spirited girl who is a bit nerdy but totally loveable. Plus, there are so many elements to this book that made it so utterly enticing that I couldn’t put it down. Hmmm, let me see there’s humor, forbidden romance, slow burn, angst, an unrequited love, secrets, and polar opposites. And there is so much more in NMM that will have you swooning for Devon and rooting for him and Giselle.
First of all, Devon is BFF with Giselle’s brother-in-law, so these him and Giselle are not strangers. And while Giselle may have crushed on Devon from afar, he is none the wiser. But Giselle is also off limits to Devon and has been asked by his BFF, Jack to keep an eye on his sister-in-law. Most specifically because he doesn’t want any of his teammates hitting on her because she still has her V-card. Something Devon would wish that he had never been told.
A little about Giselle. She is brilliant, with a background in physics, loves sci-fi, and is actually writing a romantic sci-fi novel with aliens!! After her recent her broken engagement, which is another story, she been has left somewhat befuddled. So, as part of getting past this she has signed on with a dating service. It’s on one of these dates that she happens to be at a club that Devon owns when one such date goes south. Devon comes to her rescue saving her from a creepy cowboy. Avoiding more discussion about her dating life with Devon she escapes to avoid further judgment from him.
But when a fire breaks out in Giselle’s apartment building it’s Devon who comes to her rescue again. Offering her a place to stay at his apartment....in his guest room. With a little too much knowledge about Giselle virginity and the promise he made to Jack the struggle begins. So, what happens next is truly funny… Devon is going to become Giselle’s wingman. Meeting her dates and giving them his seal of approval…. this only makes their friendship stronger. Yet, it also fans the flames of him becoming overprotective of her too. The chemistry and the dynamics between them is scorching hot, not to mention the push and pull of fighting the feelings of what was inevitably going to happen between them. But will they find their HEA?
So settle in, get comfy because Devon and Giselle are going to rock your world!!
SWEET, SEXY feel good romance that's sure to warm your heart.
Once again, Ilsa has left me with a huge smile on my face!!
Not My Match is positively a ‘One Click!”
I really enjoyed this one. Devon and Giselle have sizzling hot chemistry and their banter is witty. Their push and pull will have you hooked from the beginning to the end. Another great read from this author.
Not My Match was engaging, charming, and fun!
Devon and Giselle are connected via his best friend and teammate Jack and her sister Elena. From the beginning you can tell that Devon is very protective of Giselle and there is a mutual attraction between the two of them.
Things start to heat up and get a bit complicated when she moves in with him after a fire at her apartment. Their banter and interactions were funny, sweet, and emotional. They seem so different at first, but are really perfect for each other.
One of my favorite things about this book is that there is just as much growth in them individually as there was in their relationship. Of course, the focus of the story is their romance, but there are personal issues they work through as well.
This is my new favorite book from Ilsa Madden-Mills and I cannot wait for more from the series!
I did re-read Not My Romeo to prepare for this book, but don’t believe it is necessary, as this can be read as a stand-alone.
Devon and Giselle’s chemistry was immediate. I loved watching them grow in their feelings for each other, even when they didn’t know the other person was right there with them.
I enjoyed watching Giselle’s character growth throughout this book. There were time I wanted to yell at her, but in the end she made the right decision for herself each step of the way.
Devon really proved himself throughout the book. He has continually been a character that one could always count on. I loved finding out his past and why he is the way he is.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and seeing the two of the grow, together and apart. I am excited for the next book and am hoping it is Aiden’s!
Highly recommend for fans of sports/football romance, with a hint of nerdy girl and jock boy, and romantic comedies!
Give me any Ilsa MM book and I will devour it, just like I did with this one! Not My Match is Giselle and Devon's story and we met them in Not My Romeo. Giselle is the infamous sister that stole Elena's fiance and made him her own. While I was concerned I wouldn't like her, this book calmed all my fears. We got to see more to both of the characters in this book and they aren't all they seem to be from the outside looking in. Giselle seemed a little catty when I read her in the last book, but I had to go back and remember that this is Elena's POV and of course she would have some resentment issues towards her sister after what she did. Giselle was also played by the jerkface Preston and duped into thinking being with him was a good idea. She seemed more niave than anything. You see, Giselle is virgin and after some very sketchy things happened to her on her 16th birthday she equated her love life (physical love life) to a curse. Bad things happened if she did those things then but she's 24 now and she just basically needs to rip the band aid off at this point and get it over with.
Devon is Jack's best friend and he has been warned off of Giselle. She's too much of a good girl to be entered into his rotation. When Giselle's apartment burns down and her sister is out of town, and she has no friends to speak of, she chooses to stay with Devon till her apartment can be fixed. Devon is possessive immediately, he knows he can't have her but he also doesn't want to let her go. He got burned by a girl he thought he would marry and now just prefers to leave others before they can leave him, because that is all anhyone does right?
Both of these characters had to navigate emotional issues to come out stronger together one the other side.
Thank you to Montlake, Netgalley and Ilsa Madden Mills for allowing me to read this title early.
Giselle and Devon create their own little bubble and the author brings you right in the middle. Not My Match is a wonderful world of tension, anticipation, and playful banter.
Giselle is super smart, quirky, and imaginative. She struggles with confidence in relationships due to bad past experiences. In addition to working on her Ph.D., she also writes alien romance as a passion project and stress relief.
Devon is the hot football superstar and is known for being a ladies man His friend Jack (and Giselle’s brother-in-law) asked him to keep an eye out for Giselle but not to get involved.
It was so much fun to read their connection as it developed. These two are drawn to each other from the beginning. Devon embraced Giselle’s rambling and relished hearing about her otherworld stories. I loved how much he was drawn to the brainy side of her character. Devon also had me swooning with every protective action and thoughtful gift. Giselle was supportive while Devon dealt with situations with his father and equally thoughtful with her actions.
This book did have a slow burn pace. Devon and Giselle did share some steamy kisses but there were a few chapters in the middle where I was antsy for them to finally get together. Once they did it was full steam ahead.
Not My Match is the 2nd book in the series but can be read as a stand-alone.

A sweet and sexy forbidden romance about a professional football player falling for his best friends sister-in-law. A roommate romance with a sweet friends to lovers twist. I couldn’t put this one down!
After Giselle loses everything, she has nowhere else to turn but to the quiet and sexy football star Devon Walsh. The two become fast friends and even though Devon is supposed to stay away, he just can’t help falling for the nerdy and quirky Giselle Riley.
I’m really in love with these two characters. Giselle redeems herself, grows as a character, and has a sassy side that kept me smiling. And then there’s Devon Walsh. I’m adding him to my long list of book boyfriends. He is a sweet, broken, tattooed, pierced, alpha bad boy who swoops in and captures Giselle’s heart. These two created loads of sexual tension, massive adorableness, and off the charts chemistry. There were so many cute moments, what with Shark Week, butterflies, and tattoos. This is one romance that will stick with me. Adored it!

This is the second book in the Game Changers series, and we met Giselle and Devon briefly in book one. Giselle is the one who stole her sister's boyfriend but that was a mistake because as it turned out, he was only out to use her. Devon is the teammate of Giselle's brother-in-law and they met at her sister's wedding.
These two could not be any more different, she is a physicist and he is a football player. When her building catches fire and leaves her homeless, Devon offers her a place to stay until she finds another apartment. he knows it is not a smart decision, but he can't help wanting to save her. The longer they spend together, the more the sparks fly.
Can they stay away from each other? Will Devon help her with her little problem? Is there a chance for a future between them?
I love this author and her stories about football players and the women they love are a favorite too. This story is packed with all the feels that make a story great and it also has the crazy mom and aunt to make it even better. If you are looking for a new author to read, then give this one a try. You will not be disappointed.

This is the second book in the series, and as I absolutely loved book one, I certainly could not resist. I would recommend that you read them in order, so that you get the connections, but it could be a good read on its own too.
Our first introduction to Giselle was less than favourable, but we should have got that straightened out by now. And the very fact that we know she is a virgin would suggest that any cheating was not quite at the level that might have been expected. She is such a fun, clever, and enjoyable character. I love that she has high career ambitions to work at CERN, but also loves her crazy family and hometown. Her birthday woes will have you laughing in disbelief that she can really have so many disasters on that particular date!
Devon is undoubtedly a sports god, but he clearly has morals and behaves so correctly with Giselle; it is really funny watching them dance around each other. And whilst the 'helping the girl find a lover whilst wanting to date her yourself' scenario is not unique, it is played for every laugh and sexy encounter so perfectly, especially given they are sharing a home.
It was also good to see Jack and Elena, and to catch up on their relationship, as well as some of the crazier members of the family, like Aunt Clara. All in all a very enjoyable dip back into a world which gave me the pleasure of complete escapism from the everyday.

This book is a great read for a snowy afternoon.
Giselle and Devon dance around each other, both wanting the other yet being too afraid to reach out. Hampering the romance is Giselle’s brother-in-law, who also happens to be Devon’s teammate.
Giselle wants to be a normal woman, not the geeky nerd in the corner who doesn’t know how to make small talk with anyone, especially good looking men like Devon.
Over the course of the book you can see Giselle’s self-confidence increase the more she gets to know Devon.
Devon really likes Giselle but he’s just a ‘dumb’ jock who knows he will never be good enough for her. Yet when she looks at him, he feels like he’s just won back-to-back Super Bowls.
Take a few hours and enjoy the story. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

M/F Romance
Triggers: Substance abuse
Giselle is a nerdy, shy virgin who just wants to teach science, work at CERN, and write her fantasy sci-fi novel, with real science facts. Her best friend is a hilarious older woman who makes me think of what a crazy aunt would be, if I had one. Giselle loves teaching her students, but her advisor is a sexist jerk who doesn’t see the value in teaching kids any other way than his way.
Giselle is also looking for love. She wants the type of love that will last forever. The fact that she is still a virgin weighs on her but she doesn’t want to just have sex to have sex. With her sister happily married and on her honeymoon, Giselle isn't expecting her brother-in-law's friend, Devon, to come to her rescue in more ways than one.
Devon knows that Giselle is beautiful and smart. If only he wouldn't be seen as such a player. Devon knows that his friend wouldn't want him dating Giselle, if only because she's so innocent. But when Devon sees that Giselle is in trouble, the words "come stay with me" just tumble out.
Giselle and Devon dance around their attraction for a while. It became almost too much dancing around – the push and pull between them was too slow at times. Giselle has to work hard to make sure that she isn't going to change her life for someone who might not change their life for her. She wants an equal partnership. But when she gets to know Devon more, she sees what he is hiding away from the public eye. You'll want to love Devon despite his player ways.
These two have a cute story with family drama and meddling friends. You'll cheer them on, groan is frustration, and cross your fingers and toes for them. With that said, I wish that we could've seen more of Giselle's intelligence in the story. I'm looking forward to the next book.

I wanted to enjoy this more than I actually did. The story of a scientist and a football star should have been a perfect fit for me. But while there are a few great moments, the story didn’t quite work for me.
I found it impossible to feel a connection to Giselle. In my real-life Big Bang Theory-ish world, I’m surrounded by female scientists and nothing about Giselle’s studies or career ambitions rings true. Her experiences don’t make her very likeable, either. Giselle is the girl who takes a crazy amount of time off for ‘personal issues’ and then complains about discrimination when her supervisor isn’t impressed.
Apart from the scientist thing, the most interesting thing about Giselle is her virginity. There’s a culture gap for me here – I will never understand the importance placed on virginity by Americans. The drama around her ‘long preserved virginity’ is absolutely tedious. As a UK reader, I often struggle with conservative and religious undertones in American romance and parts of this one just felt wrong to me.
There are a couple of great scenes in this book. I love Giselle and Devon smashing things up in her barn – but that scene was borrowed from a show. Giselle’s neighbour and her interfering mum provide entertaining moments.
I realise I’ve forgotten to mention Devon. Probably because he has already blurred into all the other alpha/bad boy/star athletes in romance. He’s closed off because of family issues and struggles to share his feelings. Yawn. He feels weirdly parental and proprietary over Giselle. He’s weirdly obsessed with her virginity. He gets his feelings hurt when she gets an amazing job offer. Urgh. Nope. He just doesn’t do it for me.
After two books, I think I’m done with this series. I do recognise there’s a bit of a culture clash for me and this author – more conservative readers will likely enjoy the books more than I have.
Book 2 in The Game Changers series. Giselle is a brilliant Nuclear Research PHD student. Who also happens to be a virgin. Devon is on the same NFL team as Giselle’s brother in law and for some reason Giselle has gotten under his skin. When her apartment building is set on fire it is Devon who comes to the rescue and offers her a place to stay. He also decides to help her find the right guy to date. Can he find her the right guy? Is the right guy standing in front of her? This was a cute quick read.
It's official. I have found my first top read of 2021! Ilsa Madden-Mills has not only written her heart into this book, but she has stolen mine in the process. I absolute LOVE Giselle and Devon. Oh my heart! The tension between these two was delicious! All that angst and heartache, and then BOOM, fireworks. I had the biggest swarm of butterflies taking up residence in my stomach while reading this. I felt giddy with excitement. The story telling of this book flowed beautifully, and to be honest, I didn't feel like I was reading a book. I felt like I was living in their lives and watching this story unfold like a fly on the wall. This story is incredible.
The chemistry between Giselle and Devon was fire. Scorching hot. Even when they are in the same room you can feel the fire from them both. Underneath his front, Devon's heart is so big. I absolutely love this man, the way he cares, the way he looks after Giselle. All of it. He is the perfect book boyfriend. I will admit that after book 1 in this series I was a little hesitant about Giselle, and if you had read book 1 you would know why. But this woman was such a sweetheart. She is so fierce and caring. She is the perfect match for our Devon.
This book is a slow burn but it really didn't feel like it. The chemistry and the story just flows so well that there was never a single bit I was bored with. I cried, I am talking big tears running down my face crying. Holy beep. The emotions jumping out at me where so intense and it just made me cry! I wouldn't have it any other way though. This book is incredible and I wonder if we will see Aiden's story! I seriously can not wait for what this author has in store for us next.
This is the 2nd book in this amazing series and is Devon and Giselle’s’ story. Devon is a football player who is on the same team as Giselle’s brother-in-law, and he met Giselle who is a physicist at her sister’s wedding. The chemistry between these two in sizzling and undeniable, and when Giselle’s building goes on fire, he offers her a place to stay. This is a beautifully written story which is filled with emotions and is a humorous and all-round entertaining read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.
4.5⭐️
I was constantly on the edge of my seat with these two! Oh my, I kept on wondering when they're going to be honest with each other and be together already. Giselle is such a complex character for me to understand at first tbh. Then as she spends more time with Devon, they become close and share what's been bothering her and what she wants with her life. And no, this is not your typical friend helping another friend to explore her wild side, then they realise they're in love with each other.
Devon had been crushing on her before she even met him. He was sweet, caring, and very swoony. However, he has his own baggage and doubts that he could be what Giselle needs. That's why their love story is a slow burn, they had to work on themselves first before they get together. And what a wonderful story this is! And I love Giselle's family and their friends too. They cracked me up so much especially her mom.
This took a little while to grow on me, but once it did, I was LOVING it. I love an adorably unsure alpha who is in over his head, and that’s exactly what happens with Devon. It’s sweet and swoony with a slow burn that turns scorching later on, making this a read that will put you through a range of emotions. Personally, I think this reads better if you pretend the first book in the series never happened, because the author wrote herself into a bit of a corner with that one. This only stumbles when it’s referencing things that happened prior to the start of this book, and they’re largely irrelevant to this love story. Devon stole my heart from the beginning, and Giselle won me over by the end.
The story follows Devon, a pro football player who is used to people leaving him. He avoids emotional entanglements and prefers to keep things casual, but there’s one (very off-limits) woman who has intrigued him recently. Giselle is one of a kind - she’s a science nerd, a highly intelligent yet slightly naive woman, and... is a little desperate to turn in her v-card. Giselle is convinced that the sexy athlete has placed her in the friend zone (or at least the off-limits zone), so she’s looking elsewhere. But when they become unexpected roommates, everything changes.
I love this author’s work, but the first book in this series was not really a winner for me - and it also doesn’t paint the best picture of Giselle. So I know that a lot of fans are hesitant going into this love story, but (thankfully) it’s easy to ignore the events of the first book once the setup is out of the way. That’s probably why this took a little longer to hook me in, but once I got into it, there was no turning back. I loved the vulnerable moments between these two and the slow, delicious burn. The emotional connection is the centerpiece here, and it really shines towards the end. There’s fantastic chemistry and banter throughout, but the back half is what earns this 5 stars. The characters are complex, with real, relatable issues, and anyone who loves a marshmallow-hearted alpha will fall for Devon. I received an early copy via NetGalley (then purchased it for my collection), and am voluntarily leaving a review of this sexy, slow burn romance.
This is my favorite book from this author so far. I absolutely loved every.single.character in this story. Giselle is smart and capable and beautiful...and yet she is so approachable and relatable. She is struggling to make the right decisions to move her life in the best direction while dealing with the 'birthday curse'. Hysterical. Her landlady is an elderly woman with a fiery personality and becomes her best friend. Her meddling mother who tries to set her up with everyone in town, but loves her unconditionally. We also get a lot of Elena and Jack (which I LOVED). I do feel that this was more Giselle's story than Devon's. Without giving too much away, Devon starts off just trying to help out but quickly figures out just how much he loves her. It may seem like a predictable and obvious story line, but this stands out for me in a big way. This is a laugh out loud feel good ride. Giselle's desire and search for family, career, home, love resonates with me in a powerful way.
Every book I read from Ilsa becomes my new favorite. Giselle was very hard to even like in Not My Romero but seeing everything from her point of view and walking in her footsteps completely changed my mind. She is strong passionate and loves love! I didn’t think I would love Devon as much as I do but from the very beginning he captured my heart and never let go! Everything about Devon Walsh was perfect and together with Giselle they made one of my new favorite couples!!!!
I think what I really adored about this story is the fact that regardless of what anyone says, opposites do attract and it can be utterly beautiful! After Not My Romeo, I was intrigued by Giselle to see if she was really redeemable with everything that occurred. What we get with Not My Match, is something so raw and powerful between Giselle and Devon that you cannot help but adore these together. When things get crazy and Giselle is moved in with Devon, their push and pull was amazing. The protective nature that Devon has over her was just the right amount that you want to swoon. I loved the sass that Giselle has. She gives as good as she gets but is also hiding under a slight facade. As this plays out, you cannot help but root for them!
Overall, I loved this story. Once I started, I had a hard time putting it down. It has amazing build of the characters, a great storyline and side moments. I mean you cannot help but giggle at the gossip that goes down at the salon! It was a perfect mix of everything! Highly recommended, especially if you were a fan of Not My Romeo!

Not my match is a funny romcom story between nerdy Giselle Riley and popular hot jock Devon Walsh, with all the feels that will melt your heart.
I was team Devon since not my Romeo and I was right about him. He is such a good guy, who cares about everyone but himself and he stole my heart since the first chapters.
Giselle was the big surprise to me. I was hesitant about her story because of what happened on book one, but she proved to be more than that. She is innocent, funny and nerdy, with lots of flaws, but totally relatable.
She is so unlucky when it comes to love because somehow every guy on her life disappoints her. Enter here Devon, her match maker.
Besides their instant chemistry, their relationship starts as friends and slowly they get into each other's life. They realize how both deal with insecurities that makes them to be more alike than they thought.
I had so much fun reading about these two, specially Giselle who had the most unexpected answers ever!!!
I definitely recommend you to read about their story, not only because the fun factor, but also because their romance story is the cutest thing ever.
Well my. This book completely took me by surprise with the angsty feelings it caused and I am all about it. Not My Match is now the best Ilsa Madden-Mills book I've read...and I feel like that means a lot because she has written some incredible, incredible books!
Giselle and Devon are two individuals struggling with past mistakes and heartaches. Giselle is carrying around so much guilt and though she is trying so hard to move on, it's in greatly misguided ways. This intelligent, quirky, genuinely loving woman won my heart though. She's doing her very best to make amends and she has a deep love for her family and friends.
Devon...my poor, sweet, Devon! He's been hurt so much in the past and he's convinced himself he doesn't deserve what's right in front of him, and moreover, he's scared it won't last. HE DESERVES THE BEST IN LIFE! He is sexy and smart and his heart is pure gold. He is grade A book boyfriend material.
This wonderfully heartfelt friends to lovers story is beautifully written with humor, sass, chemistry, and emotion. It seriously hit me in the best way. 5++ butterfly stars for Not My Match!
