Whoa I love this! After reading the first book in the series I really didn't like Giselle, but this book was AMAZING! She really redeemed her self and lets just say that some men are scum of the earth and her ex was a major dirt bag.
Devon not one time seems like a player and yet he has everything going for him. Looks, a career, and his own business ….but what he needs more is Giselle. They fit perfectly in everyway. He enjoys her quirky, nerdy ways. And she gets his brooding and intense nature.
Promising his friend Jack he will look after the virginal young sister of his new wife, he takes this serious. But he can't keep his eyes or thoughts off her. What happens when he invites her in and he really gets to know her.
this author really knows how to create something magical. I was drawn in from the beginning and held out until the epilogue, which was awesome.
Giselle and Devon caught me COMPLETELY off guard, ouff. I see my mutuals thought this was just okay, totally valid, which is why I'm stunned I liked it as much as I did. Honestly, I feel like there's never an agreed upon consensus on any Ilsa book, we're all going in blindly and hoping for the best.
In my opinion, this one ate and left no crumbs behind.
I had a hard time staying engaged with this book. I think mainly my issue was not relating much with the heroine, so it made if difficult to root for her and go for the ride of ups and downs with her. I do think, however, that this is more of it's me, not the book and other people may love it.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This story and these characters are just wow. This author really knows how to not dissapoint. Very much enjoyed and reccommend this story
Another solid romance by Ilsa Madden Mills. This was a steamy sports, forced proximity romance. I wanted to connect to the characters a bit more.
How does this author do it? Every time I read one of her books it is my new favorite. In reality, they are all my favorites. Not My Match is the latest that I have fallen in love with. Devon and Giselle were so perfect for each other. Devon longed for Giselle from the very beginning. He tried to keep his distance, but the attraction, chemistry and passion ignited whenever they were near each other. Individually hey were great characters. Devon was sweet, sexy, charming, protective and smart. He wanted to be everything to Giselle – the man in all her universes. The fact that Giselle was working on her doctorate in Physics makes you lover just for that, but she is fun, lighthearted and a prankster as well.
This story was so easy and delightful. From the very start I was invested in this story. I wanted Devon and Giselle to have their HEA. The added bonus were all the great side characters. They added so much to the story. This is a book you don’t want to miss!
Book two in the Game Changers series. The series has interconnected characters but can be read as a stand-alone. In this book, we get Devon and Giselle's story.
These pair have their own unique quirks and individual characteristics. Devon is best mates with Giselle's new brother in law. Unbeknownst to Devon Giselle has known (and had a fangirl crush on of him) long before his mate joined the family.
A chance encounter has Devon saving Giselle from a sticky situation which latter results in him offering her a place to stay. One thing leads to another and a slow burn story results.
This book was awesome. I didn't know what to expect with Giselle, but wow, I'm pleasantly surprised with how it all played out! I loved Giselle and Devon's story. Ugh, these two together were just so swoony. The slow burn was just the right amount of slow and the chemistry was off the charts. Devon was just hot. He's added to my pool of book boyfriends. Giselle was just so quirky and cute and I loved her. I definitely recommend!
Friends to lovers stories are always one of my favorites and Not My Match by Ilsa Madden Mills is all that and more! This sports romance brings the alpha male and the nerdy girl together with great chemistry and fun banter! The Game Changers series just keeps getting better with every book!
A slow-burn romance that melts your heart!
Gah, I didn't think I'd like Giselle as much as I did after reading Not My Romeo, but Ilsa Madden-Mills surprised me with how much heart and goofiness this girl has, even if she's made some mistakes. When she becomes somewhat of a damsel-in-distress, football player Devon takes her into his home, and then somehow becomes her wingman for her quest to lose her virginity. I loved the laughs, I love the heat, and I loved the buildup for this story. Devon may be a "player", but he's got a heart of gold, and Giselle is funny, witty, and adorable. They both won me over, and I absolutely loved Not My Match, and so will you!
Sweet Sports Romance
She’s a physicist and he’s an all-star football player yet when her sister, Ellena, and his best friend, Jack, marry Jack makes sure Devon knows that Giselle is off limits to a womanizer like him. She’s now family and Jack knows that she’s coming out of break up and looking for love online. Giselle’s luck keeps getting worse when her apartment building burns but its Devon to the rescue. He has Giselle move into his penthouse with him until she can get back in her place. Well, that probably wasn’t smart because the attraction between them sizzles and Devon is trying to adhere to Jack’s orders that his virgin sister-in-law is hands off.
What a refreshing sports romance with all of the laugh out loud moments and bringing me to a front row seat to Giselle and Devon’s budding relationship. I really loved this book and can’t wait to read more from this author.
I am writing this review under duress!!!! I was NOT ready to finish this book, heck I may get kicked off the review team because I pushed it so last minute!!
And no it’s not because the book wasn’t good, geez I gave it five stars!!! It’s that it was soooo good!!! I was back in Daisy saying hi to old friends and getting to know side characters better that I couldn’t let go!
I was moving along getting to know Devon and Giselle enjoying their banter and sense of humor, laughing out loud with their antics (hello Cindy and her family) I mean dead!!!! Just dead!! Finding out who Devon and Giselle were at their core. Getting answers as to why Giselle did what she did in Not My Romeo and connecting with her better because of it.
Getting anxious when they would misconstrue what the other said, waiting for them to realize what they feel. Sighing when everything was finally coming together and than I hit 98% and shut the book!!!
No, nope, not gonna finish!! I needed to stay in my bliss!! I couldn’t deal with what I thought was to come, I needed to stay in the happy bubble of Devon and Giselle. I many times went back to the book to finish it and than shut it and picked something else to read.
But alas I couldn’t be an ostrich and stick my head in the sand and act like nothing was going on. I had to get back to Daisy and my people! And of course I knew that Ilsa was gonna tear my heart out but I went back in anyways!! And sure enough she gutted me!! But like any good author who sucks you in and has you rooting for the main characters and wanting that HEA, she put my heart back together and gave me the story that I knew I’d love!!
So get yourself to Daisy and fall in love with Devon and Giselle, you won’t regret it!
Oh my word this book was amazing!! I am obsessed with Devon and Giselle’s relationship. It was so sweet and everything you could ever want. Their instant connection and friendship was lovely and then when it became more it was fireworks. It made me so happy.
This was an excellent opposites attract read. You meet the main characters in Not My Romeo.
Though I loved Devon when we first met him I was not a big fan of Giselle. Im glad We got See a different side of her. Both characters clearly needed each other and where able to grow together to find happiness.
Devon of course was the perfect book boyfriend, flaws and all. Though I was apprehensive with reading it as I was not a bog fan of Giselle, I’m really glad I gave it a shot. Like always Ilsa’s book don’t disappoint.
I was a little nervous to read this because I loved the first in the series, Not My Romeo so much. But this one definitely exceeded all my expectations and I loved it just as much! Devon & Giselle were so good together and brought the STEAM! Really loving this author and now I want to go back and read her entire backlist!
Not My Match is book 2 in the Game Changers series and can be read as a standalone but I still recommend reading these books in order to get a better understanding of the characters.
This book follows Giselle & Devon who we met in Not My Romeo. Giselle was a bit of a difficult character to get a read on in NMR due to how she was involved in part of the initial conflict but I'm glad she got her own story which helped add depth and understanding to her as well as a deeper dive into Devon.
This story was a fun, flirty (light) sports romance and involved one of my favourite tropes/themes 'close proximity'. This was a quick easy read, relatively low angst with some added heart. Even though I was a fan of this pairing and enjoyed the chemistry and interactions between Giselle and Devon I had a bit of a hard time connecting to them as individuals. There were moments of frustrations with how they communicated their wants and how long they tried to deny their feelings, mainly Devon, I understand why it was this way given their past relationships and personal self-doubt but the whole 'I want you but won't let myself have you' plot isn't necessarily my fave. The ending also felt a little rushed/quick to wrap up. The conflict/resolution was imo predictable but I still would've liked if it was paced out a little more, maybe an extra chapter or two but I did enjoy how it eventually ended.
The side characters were gold. Ilsa has a way of writing background characters and side characters that always leaves me wanting me. My love for Aiden is growing and I'm hopeful he will get a book next.
Obviously, you know Ilsa Madden-Mills is one talented writer. So, there is no point me telling you how superb the writing is. And it goes without saying that her stories make you get lost in their pages. This can absolutely be read as a standalone. But, before you read this I would strongly suggest you read Not my Romeo first.
Not because you need to but because you will want to, and it's set right before this one. And it gives you some background on each of these guys. But like I said this is a standalone so it's not necessary it just makes you feel part of the cool kids knowing some of the inside information.
Giselle and Devon were both characters that I loved for how human they were. They each made stupid mistakes that they regretted, and they were trying to figure out their own future. They both had insecurities about who they were, and I wanted to hug them both and take all their pain away.
Devon was an awesome hero, which was kind of unexpected. But with his history revealed he was a lot easier to understand and love. He gave the most amazing boyfriend, I just loved him so much
Naturally, the secondary characters were great, most of whom we already met but some new very interesting faces too. I really can't decide who I want the next book to star. Not that it matters, since there's no doubt the book will be great and I'll love them no matter who they are. Toodles
I can't believe I've gone this long without reading a book by Ilsa Madden-Mills! I didn't realise this book was the 2nd in a series but it can be read as a stand alone. It all made sense to me and I was never confused as to who was who.
This book is full of delicious slow burn passion and humour. Even the first chapter had me laughing. It was the perfect mix of drama and humour. I loved Giselle she reminded me of a mix of Sheldon from the big bang and Phoebe from friends. She was so quirky and a huge science brainiac, I thought she was awesome. The scene with Cindy and the shark one had me in stitches. She was so random and I loved that. Devon was *inserts fanning emoji* he comes off as this tough football star but he's got such a soft side and he's suffered so much heartbreak that walls are well and truly up. Him and Giselle have a great relationship he's such a protector and she's just so different but yet they are similar in other ways that it just works. All the characters are well written and really bring the story together. I'm looking forward to going back and reading Jack and Elenas story now.
After listening to Not My Romeo last year, I was really looking forward to returning to Daisy in Not My Match. Ilsa Madden Mills does not disappoint. I really enjoyed this romcom!
I was so smitten with Devon in Not My Romeo, so I was waiting for him to find love and sweep some woman off her feet. He's charming and playful, and totally someone with a good heart even if you want to lump him into the playboy athlete category. He's had his heart broken, so he doesn't think he knows how to open up and be in love any more, but boy, oh, boy was he wrong.
Giselle has a hard time believing that she can balance love and career. She's focused and driven and knows exactly what she wants. She's working to move obstacles thrown in her way on her way to success, and the last thing she wants right now is to fall in love.
From the first page to the last, the banter, wit and intelligent humor carry through this entire book. The characters are smart and driven, and they really are great complements to each other. Just as Devon and Giselle couldn't resist falling in love with each other, I couldn't resist falling in love with them, with their quirks, with their humor, with their banter.
The conundrum of falling for your best friends sister -n- law. The one he told he not to mess with, that got you thinking how hot she was. That is how we start off this amazing and exciting romance of obvious attraction. Devon hopelessly in love with Giselle but fighting it with all his might. For the sake of his friendship with both his best friend and captain and Giselle.
Now Giselle isn’t pulling punches when it come to the one thing she desires the most. The man that has captured her heart and soul, but won’t admit it. Funny and sexy doesn’t even begin to describe this refreshing story of friends to lovers. Their chemistry pulses off the pages, producing a vibe that is intoxicating and addicting to the very last page,
As always Ilsa writes a characters that just melt your heart and appeal to your soul. Devon and Giselle two people that could not be more opposite but so perfect for one another an enticing read.
