I think this series isn't for me right now. This first volume felt like a sketched out summary of a plot that assumed you know lots of details of the world already (and I was lost even despite reading the first volume of the main series this spun off of). There's also an attempt at major revelations and office politics that most seemed like flat bluster. The art is dark and atmospheric, but the action scenes are pretty incomprehensible. On the whole I feel a bit let down.
First, I've read the first volume of Tokyo Ghoul, and have watched a few episodes of the anime, so I have a basic understanding of what's going on, but I feel like I would've enjoyed this more is I had read/watched more of the original material. So, if you haven't at least got some idea of what's going on in this world, more than what I've got, this isn't the place to start, start with Tokyo Ghoul and read/watch a good chunk of it. I was a bit lost.
Tokyo Ghoul gives us the story from the ghouls perspective, Tokyo Ghoul: re is from the ghoul hunters perspective, in particular a new squad called the QS Squad, whose agents have a ghoul's kagune implanted in them, giving them ghoul abilities. Haise Sasaki has been put in charge of this new group of agents; will he be able to pull them together and make this experiment work, or will it fail before it really begins?
The art is great, the ghouls are creepy af, and the action scenes well done. As this is the first volume, the story is still introductory, and not really in full swing yet, but it seems to be off to a good start. The writing feels good to me, but I don't have the insights a more diligent reader of the series does, so YMMV. I did enjoy the characters quite a bit, it'll be fun seeing them grow into a team in future volumes.

The Commission of Counter Ghoul is fighting ghouls. They use every tool they have to protect humanity.
So the ghouls work for some kind of company and they are being sent out to fight other ghouls. The ghouls are pretty creepy. I did not read the original Tokyo Ghoul or watch the entire anime. I could still follow the story, but I do feel like if I had read the first story I would understand more. The fight scenes are really well done. I love how much excitement was shown in every panel. This story is one of my children's favorite.
Being a massive Tokyo Ghoul fan I was pleased to see this come up on Netgalley. I loved the series and love the storyline. I will be using this in my class to show story flow and how panels are laid out in Japanese graphic novels and as usual a great read,
I only read the first original Tokyo Ghoul manga volume, so I feel like I have missed out on a lot of key information. Overall, the story is good. People have been implanted with ghoul parts in order to fight ghouls. They are a sort of police force. They are fighting an organization of ghouls and looking for one in particular called the Torso.
This series is focused on the revolution that Arima's death commenced. It is about Kaneki finding a reason to keep on living (Touka), which is soooo important to me because now I know he will not give up on his life without a good fight. The last series was more about the process of getting Kaneki to where he is today, from a college student who doesn't know how to wield his kagune to the king of ghouls.
Honestly, when I was reading this it kinda reminded me of when I was reading Shakespeare because I sometimes had to read chapter summaries to understand its full content. There are so many different characters (especially the washuus, it took me a while to recognize which washuu is which) and I absolutely loved how they were all somehow connected to someone that I least expected they would know.
My favourite characters are Kaneki, Tsukiyama, Urie, Naki, and Suzuya. I hope Ishida will be kind and keep them alive till the end. This series is now an all time favourite of mine next to Vampire Knight and Hunter X Hunter.
