This is an interesting and wide ranging history of Christianity with no assumptions about a level of knowledge and it is a fairly easy read. The subject is tackled from several different angles - social and cultural as well as historical - and it is not a dry chronological narrative. The author is obviously well read and able to distil his knowledge in an interesting and thought provoking way. The chapters are clear and straightforward and I learned a great deal. It is the sort of book you can pick up and put down and have something to contemplate in between.

There are ideas to follow up on with further study if the brief, stimulating introduction has whetted your appetite.

I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley in return for an honest review.
