An original, and as such a refreshing plot, I knew this was going to be an excellent read from the get go.
A murder, told from the perspective of three, very different, women (Gotta love Tina by the way!) which will keep you guessing who was responsible for it right until the last few pages.
I found it witty, intelligent and very well thought out.

An excellent fast paced book which I’ve read today in one (long) sitting!
Constantly keeping me guessing I was really drawn into the lives of these women. I must point out that there are a some disturbing topics which maybe triggering for some readers - domestic violence, abusive relationships of various types - however I think it is dealt with well, always in context and meaningful to the whole storyline and only increased my sympathies for the three wives in this polygamous family.
Overall I would highly recommend it as a fast paced, twisty thriller which I rated an excellent 5⭐️.

Blake is a survivalist Mormon who lives in an illegal polygamous marriage with his 3 wives. To keep the arrangement away from prying eyes he has set them up in an old ranch in the middle of the dessert outside Utah - even a Satnav struggles to locate them. The wives hate each other and all the relationships are increasingly tense so when Blake is found dead in suspicious circumstances all 3 wives are the prime suspects.
As the police ratchet up the pressure the wives realise they can only help each other to clear their names.

I enjoyed this involving thriller and the insights into the Mormon life and in particular, the cults that live outside the more conventional Mormon world and use its teaching to create insular, abusive societies. The development of the 3 wives’ characters was well written and involving. I found the ending slightly disappointing; the weakness of creating such an insular world is that if one of the wives didn’t kill him, we aren’t introduced to many characters that could have. It makes it quite easy to guess the twist.
Thank you to #netgalley and #orionbooks for allowing me to read this ARC

I wasn't sure about this when I first started reading it but I was soon hooked! A real page Turner. 3 very different wives and stories to keep you guessing.

An original premise for a mystery - set around Mormonism, but not about Mormons. Blake Nelson has a wife, Rachel, and then has a ceremony with Tina and then with Emily. They live out in the wilds so their arrangement is discrete. Blake is murdered and of course his three 'wives' are all suspects.
This book is more about the relationship between the sister-wives, what they brought to the arrangement for Blake and when he is found dead whether they trust or suspect each other and how they deal with that.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Cate Quinn/Orion Publishing for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

Blake is a a member of the Chuch of the Latter Day Saints & has three wives which is illegal & frowned upon by his church. He is found dead & the book looks at the wives. Which one killed him? A good book that looks at the wives lives in detail, with so much revealed. It hooks you in & carries you through, wanting to know more.

I thought this was great - an unusual setting in a sparsely populated part of Utah and an unusual family of polygamous Mormons. Tightly plotted, the story follows the murder of Blake, the husband of the family, and his three wives, each of whom have the spotlight shone on them by the police. A story of a family unit unravelling and one that kept me turning the pages,

Keeps you reading till the end.
Blake lives with his three wives Rachael, Emily and Tina in a remote isolated farm in Utah.
His body is found and the police think he`s been murdered, all clues point to his wife, but which one?
All three wives have different personalities which are revealed throughout the book, keeping you reading till the end with an insight into keeping multi wife`s.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review

Usually, I dislike multi-thread books but, with Black Widows, I found an exception. A seemingly straightforward tale in a "Mormon" setting which turned out to be far from straightforward. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the central 3 women made for very interesting and contrasting stories which became more interesting as their lives became entwined over the death of their "husband".

A side benefit for me was learning a little more about Mormonism, enough to make me want to go off to research them a little more.

Overall, a story that is well worth your investment.

A really good thriller, and definitely keeps you guessing who murdered Blake right to the end, so although sometimes I felt it was a bit slow in places, with not much happening, it keeps you guessing, and wanting to read on as you want to find out what actually happened to Blake - and it wasn't what I was expecting!!

This book made me laugh at times with the descriptions of the way of life that this Mormon sect behaved. The story was based on the wives and each one telling their story and sharing their emotions. All the way through I thought that I knew who the real murderer was but the ending was so unexpected and the plot so carefully evolved that I had no idea of the real murderer at all, not even thought about that particular person. . So well written with a really good ending which even to the last page added yet another twisty thought.
Highly recommend

Oh my goodness this was a good book.

An intriguing look at relationships, religion and cult psychology.

At times dark and disturbing, it is a powerful story and a gripping murder mystery.

Highly recommend.

This is an usual plot about Mormonism which was interesting and informative. Based in Utah, Blake is a polygamist with three wives. Who killed him? The book has many twists and is told through the eyes of all the wives. I found the layout frustrating and could not identify why the later wives agreed to marry. Each had their own underlying story to tell.

Three wives
One dead husband
How's the killer?

I absolutely loved this book. I have always been fascinated by cults and polygamy, so when this landed on my kindle I was very eager to start reading, and I was not disappointed. The story is narrated following each wife's point of view, which makes it a very interesting read because they are all so different, you start seeing the same things in different ways and you don't know who to trust.

The pace is fast and it kept me entertained all the way to the end, I really wanted to know who was the killer and I could not put it down until I finished it. Unfortunately I figured out who the killer was and I was a bit disappointed by the ending. However, I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a dark mystery.

I liked the way the story was told; each wife telling her version of events in alternating chapters. It also enabled the wives to have a personality and to be differentiated from each other.
The premise of the story is intriguing. Blake, the husband is found dead and his three Mormon wives are the prime suspects.
What bothered me a little was the lack of pace and suspense, it was a bit like Rachel's cooking, substance but lacking flavour. The reveal was well thought out and the content allows plenty of scope for discussion.
Worth a read

Polygamist Blake Nelson built a homestead on a hoidden stretch of land where he lives with his three wife's:

The first wife, Rachel is obedient and doting to a fault, but she's a past she'd prefer to keep quiet.

The second wife, Tina is a rebel, everything Rachel isn't. Straight from rehab and the Vegas Strip.

The third wife, Emily is the young one who's niave and scared. She's estranged from her Catholic family.

The only thig the women had in common was Blake. Until all three are accused of murder.

This book kept me on my toes. My mind was changed multiple times to who the murderer could be. I did eventually work it out but never spoils a good story for me. Secrets are slowly revealed around each wife. It's packed full of twists and red herrings. The story is told from the three wifes perspectives with alternate chapters that tells us of the events before and after Blake's death. This is a well written story that's gripping from the start.

I was sent this by the author in return for a honest review.

This book honestly surprised me, I didn't expect to enjoy it especially not as much as I did. It had me hooked from the start and I found myself blaming all 3 wives and watching their lives unravel and their stories told really made me create feelings for everyone involved. The ending honestly shocked me so much I truly wasn't expecting it. It was interesting and a very unique story which touches on religion and beliefs, cults, child abuse, adultery, mixed marriage. I would love to read anymore of Cate's work if she was to write anymore books as I throughly enjoy her writing style.

Blake Nelson is found dead under the desert sun in the wilds of Utah where he lives hidden away with his three wives.
No one else knows the location of the off-the-grid ranch and police quickly pinpoint doting first wife Rachel, unworldly youngest spouse Emily and former Vegas hustler Tina as the only suspects.
The women’s back stories emerge against a backdrop of cults, cruelty and the traditions and lifestyle of the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) religion for a thoroughly gripping whodunnit.

A very different read to what I’m used to, this look in to the world of the LDS church was both interesting and gripping. A story about 3 sister wives and who killed their husband. It was well written, emotional and intriguing and I would recommend this read.
