Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
The title will appeal to many kids. The illustrations were fun but the sparse text detracted from the reading experience.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* lmfao this book is hilarious, i can imagine reading it to children would take some time and would certain uh increase their vocab lmao
I misunderstood, since this was listed as non-fiction on Netgalley, I thought it was going to be some science behind (ha!) farts 💨 that I could share with my homeschooled kiddos. It was actually just a rhyming picture book about how everybody farts (which I suppose is A fact, but I was hoping for multiple facts). I think kids would enjoy it and it’s a quick silly story, but it wasn’t what I was looking for.
Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. It's bound to be a hit with kids. Mine certainly find anything to do with farts funny. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is like a Dr. Seuss version of farts. The rhyming is creative and the illustrations are cute. That said, I thought this book would provide some science about farts but it didn't. On NetGalley, it's classified as children's nonfiction but there were really any facts like I assumed there would be.
Farts tend to be either considered impolite to mention or a source of jokes. Regardless of the viewpoint, farts happen. The Secret Life of Farts is a short book that celebrates the exhaust that may not get the attention if should.
Filled with colorful illustrations, the pages tell about different farts and farters in a rhyming format. Each page is short and easy to read, so many ages can enjoy the book. However, it might be better suited for older children because of the format.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This is one of the best and most hilarious books I've ever read! I laughed a lot, and I'm thinking about hanging one of the verses in my bathroom! I'm sure every adult and child would want to read this great book again and again. Also, the illustrations are excellent!
I liked the idea behind this book and there are not many children out there that don't think a fart is very funny!
The book was well written and it did make me smile, the illustrations in the book were perfect for this one!!
This was a funny read - 4 stars from me for this one and I can see it being a hit with a lot of kids out there!
Genius! A very clever rhyming book all about farts. The illustrations are bright and cheerful and match the brilliant text perfectly. My only wish is that it was out in time for Christmas as there are so many people - children and adults! - I'd like to buy it for!
Ok, this book is hilarious! I've never read something like this to my kids before, and I never will again. Kids will have fits of gut-busting laughter while reading about farts.
This book is hilarious! I am not ashamed to say that not only did my kids and nephew love it, I shared it with family on zoom and the adults were in stitches too. Needless to say you have future buyers in us!
I am obsessed with farts. Why do they happen? Why do some people fart more than others? Less than? Why do some smell less? Smell more? I laughed and I learned. Not just for kids! Highly recommend. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A funny tale of farts. As someone who typically does not enjoy potty humor, I found this book clever and somehow charming.
The Secret Life of Farts had me laughing from page one.
Its a terrific book and would be a super stocking filler for anyone who finds humor in farts. I laughed out loud a few times while reading the poems (Maybe its because I live with 2 sons!!!)
The artwork adds to the humor with great drawings throughout. It was a lighthearted read and one you would go back to for another chuckle time after time!
Thanks to Netgalley and Pushkin Press for the ARC.
I received this book from Netgally in exchange for an honest review!
As a teacher, the title had me hooked to read more. The taboo act of "letting one rip" finally has its moment to shine. This is a a quick page turner full of rhymes and bursts of giggles. Children learn how to use descriptive language, figurative language, and verse in a whole new way.
For those who were clammering for a book of just farts of all kind then this is the book for you.
But for those who hoped this would be mixed with a little science, or a little history, or something more than different types of farts, they will be sadly disappointed.
It looked at one point, when there was a person on a stage, that we were going to learn about the famous man, Joseph Pujol, who musical instruments with farts, and entertained people that way, but no, it was just his illustration, and mo more information on this remarkable man.
And then to go from a real person to an imaginary girl who used farts to fly through the air.
Originally written in Swedish, perhaps it lost a lot in the translation.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
My 7yo LOVED this book! He laughed so hard through the whole book. It was a fun rhythmic read. We will definitely be reading this a lot!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book. However, I was looking for more scientific or teaching a child why farts happen but it was more about being funny.
I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
I really loved this book! It's written in verse, it's soooo silly and also normalizes farting! I honestly had a great time reading it, and laughed along the way, so I would recommend this wholeheartedly! Kids will LOVE this book!!!
