Returning home and having a safe and stable environment for a while is all Olivia wants. Now that she’s home she’s enrolling in a new school and meeting the town bullies. Making friends. Plus, there seems to be a monkey trying to kill her?
There is a lot of information in this story. I picked this book a few years ago and for whatever reason didn’t read it right away. So when I read it the other day and then compared what I thought the story was about to what the book blurb says, I started laughing because I did not get all that.
Johannes Johns uses a lot of detail and you can kind of drown in it but key parts are important to how things start to tie together. I have to admit, I didn’t get all of the above from this story. To me, it is just Olivia moving back home with her Uncle. Meeting all of the players in town and having a monkey try to kill her for an object the villain wants. Of course, neither Olivia or her Uncle have any idea about the object that they are being questioned or almost killed for.
Then we have the great secondary cast. There is romance, humor, and diversity. I, of course, crush on Basho as does Oliva (chuckle). There is a bit of steam here and an interlude that is quite hot.
I actually couldn’t even figure out how the title of the book matches up to the story until one line in it makes it click. I still don’t get why it’s the book title though. Then again, I’m the one who had no clue any of the synopsis was going on. I just thought it was a story that had lots of details that would either lead to a quest or revenge (due to the title). It doesn’t have either.
I enjoyed the sapphic romance part of the story and the friendships made. Uncle Ernie is a charmer. Overall, I enjoyed it.

This book was WILD. It kept my attention throughout the entire story and then a bit after that. As the first of a trilogy, I am extremely keen to get my hands on the next two books.

this was a great start to the series, as I previously wrote I had read the third one first then purchased the previous two. This was the perfect way to start the series.

Bonkers, Bizarre And Utterly Fascinating.
An almost absurdist fantasy which takes place after another civil war and environmental collapse of the United States, it's a wild ride which started off crazy and got even more wild!
Evil Sock Puppet? Eccentric and ELECTRIC uncle? This book promises a rollercoaster I have yet to see from any other kind of dystopian novel.
