Loved this! As an older new mum myself, I could totally relate! Really good mood lifter! Well written and great for new mums who need something to relate to in those blurry few months!
This book made me laugh out loud at times
It was slightly irritating the way the author went on repeatably about being old
But it was an entertaining read
I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
I read this book a while ago and the story still resonates. I picked it as I am an older mum to 2 children and thought it would lighten the relentlessness of parenting which it did.
The humour throughout this book is everything and it was lighthearted to read however also really impacting by showing you the honest highs and lows of pregnancy, birth and postnatally. So many women are not honest about how hard parenting is, almost not wanting to admit what could be deemed as 'failure' however honesty is so important as us mums need to stick together to support each other.
I definitely feel like i have lost my identity since becoming a mum so this book was great to read.
This was a laugh out loud book that I felt I could really relate too. Being a mum for the first time bringing anxiety, worry and excitement. Following the journey with Cari Rosen (mum at 43) follows her story as she transitions from career driven to new expectant mum.
I appreciate her honesty and accurate account of pregnancy, childbirth and new mum.
Eye opening, insightful and it made me question societal views on expectant mums over 40.
I found this very difficult to read and I wasn't able to finish it.
I have tried to read it several times and found it to be aimed at a certain audience and I did not fit the category.
Many Thanks for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
Cari Rosen gives us a real and very lovely insight into her life as a 'mature' mother. The changes she has to face when she has been childfree for 43 years to having this lovely bundle of inquisitive cuteness come into her life. She give such a honest opinion of what it takes to be a mother and all the challenges that come with it
3.5 stars
Enjoyed this one, though I had expected it to be funnier and with way more anecdotes about actually being an older mum. It's a lot of observation, some reflections, much comparison, but it also dragged in places and was rather repetitive throughout. I found myself really laughing in the later stages of the book, when the child was often being hilarious.
Still, it's a very good look behind the scenes of being a mum having a baby past the age of 40 in today's world - rather eye-opening throughout
Hilariously truthful read! As a first time mum last year at 35 I felt compelled to read this! Wish I had read it sooner! Very relatable well done to author
This was such a fun and funny read I really enjoyed it. I think I was expecting it to be a little bit tacky but it was actually really relatable.
This book was funny!
There were many relatable moments with its chapters and gave to say that I’ve likely experienced many of them over the time of bringing up my three children myself.
It really did make me reminisce of those early baby days with nappies everywhere and children that didn’t sleep.
Well done to the author who stuck it out for those nights when their child would finally sleep.
I will not be giving feedback on this title. I will not be giving feedback to this title as it was archived prior to my ability to download the text.
I enjoyed this book and being an older Mum myself find this relatable. Some funny moments that made me laugh. Oh the joys of having a small baby. Any Mum would appreciate where the author is coming from. Being a Mum at any age is hard work.
Funny and relatable book. Easy light reading. No need to be a parent to enjoy this book. I’m aware it’s a book related to age but the self deprecating remarks related to age did start to get a bit wearing, being older is not to blame for everything after all. Plenty of moments to make you chuckle and a refreshingly honest, no frills account of parenthood.
Thank you Netgalley.
An entertaining take off a woman deemed ancient in the child bearing world. Her story takes us through the pregnancy and first couple of years raising her child. Honest, full of emotion and with great humour, you don't have to have children to appreciate it
I was quite disappointed with this book.
With the title such as "The Secret Diary of a New Mum (aged 43 1/4) I expected it to be funny however, I didn't find anything to laugh at. Plus it all seemed like I was told the story rather than being shown and the use of brackets was super annoying - please authors work these into the story!!
I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review.
Not my cup of tea, but can see why others would enjoy it. Thank you netgalley for this read in return for review.
I did think this book was funny in places and I did feel for her when she was struggling. It was really interesting to read a book from older mum view and understanding how easy and hard it is for them . Where she thought it was easy in places I thought it was hard from my view from being mum. Where she thought it was hard sometimes I did come cross that. I am really glad Cari had lots of friends to support her. Where I found this difficult because I moved somewhere new and didn’t have many people to talk about rising a child. This book was easy to read and I love the bright colour of the cover. Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this book.
Funny insight into childbirth & motherhood from an older mum's perspective. Obviously some things are the same no matter what your age but I enjoyed the funny quirks of the older mum
This was an honest and amusing version of first time motherhood in your 40's. At first I thought the cultural references wer too early (they resonated with me in my late 60's!) but I realised she was writing this when her daughter was in her teens. I thought it was occasionally a little repetitive and self absorbent but was generally a good read.
