A nail-bitingly tense psychological thriller, The Killing Kind is a completely gripping read that left me with heart palpitations as I tried to keep up with Ingrid’s tormentor.

Full of suspense, it’s such a brilliantly plotted and paced thriller. The tempo doesn’t stop as the tension builds and builds, absorbing you in the mystery of who’s watching Ingrid and messing with her life.

Ingrid is a brilliant lead character. She’s strong and intelligent, and Casey captures her torturous situation brilliantly, not knowing who to turn to as you begin to place your trust in her enemies and question those closest to her.

There are a number of characters under the spotlight and I certainly couldn’t predict which way the story would end. It had me gripped until the very end, and the final twists had me on the edge of my seat.

The Killing Kind is a book that you will find hard to put down. Casey is such an intelligent writer and I can’t wait to read more by her.

Ingrid Lewis is the main character, she is a barrister dealing with many different cases but non changes her life as dramatically as the one where she defends John Webster. Ingrid gets John Webster off a stalking charge but as soon as she does he puts all his attention onto Ingrid and her life spirals out of control. John knows everything about Ingrid, every move she makes he has already worked out where she’ll be. Is John really her saviour and protector rather than a stalker and murderer?
A well written book that I enjoyed from beginning to end. I liked how I had not a clue where it was going and how the ending managed to wrap all the loose ends up leaving nothing to the imagination.

I don't want to spoil the storyline but this book soon had me hooked. The pace is fast and gripping. This standalone will keep you guessing,

This is the first Jane Casey book that I have read and I hope it won’t be the last.

This is an exceptional standalone psychological thriller that thrills, scares and excites in equal doses.

Well written, thoughtful and fast paced it paints an accurate picture of the criminal justice system and the tension never let go until the end.

I have read and enjoyed the Maeve Kerrigan books, but this standalone is something special. The main character’s fear is palpable almost from the start and becomes increasingly tense as the book progresses. This has so much going for it - it’s a thriller with psychological terror as well. There is the legal aspect with very good points about the meaning of justice. It is brilliantly crafted with excellent pace (and I am running out of superlatives!). The character development is superb and I was totally engrossed. If I could give it more than 5⭐️, I would. Highly recommended for all thriller fans.

I took a little while to get interested in this book but once I did I couldn't stop reading. I've read a few of Jane Casey's books, mostly the Maeve Kerrigan series, which I really enjoyed. I thought The Killing Kind was quite unique, I don't remember reading anything like this story before so would definitely recommend it.

This is the first book I have read by this author. I found it okay but thought it was quite slow to start with. It took me a while to get into it but it picked up and I enjoyed the ending.

This is a stand alone book, not one of the Maeve Kerrigan ones. That does not diminish it at all. This book had me gripped from the beginning and I was guessing most of the way through about who was trying to kill Ingrid. The story starts with the main character Ingrid, who is a barrister, lending her umbrella to a fellow barrister, Belinda, who is subsequently knocked down and killed. Ingrid is convinced that it is not an accident as the has been stalked by a previous client for a few years and is convinced the truth is that she was the target and Belinda got killed because of the umbrella. We see characters come in and out of the story and Ingrid doesn't know who to trust. I thought the level of tension was kept up throughout and it was only near the end that my guesses were confirmed. If you like a good thriller, you'll like this.

Having previously read and enjoyed ‘The Burning’ by Jane Casey, I was looking forward to reading her latest book, ‘The Killing Kind’.
In short, London Barrister Ingrid Lewis finds herself being stalked by one of her clients, John Webster, who she had successfully defended against a stalking charge. Events quickly unfold convincing Ingrid that she is the target and is in danger, however, unfortunately there is no evidence to instigate an official police enquiry...who can she trust to help her?
It’s a dark, tense thriller smattered with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. I thought it was an inspired storyline using the justice system with the twist to turn the perpetrator’s act onto the person who defended and saved him from imprisonment.

I have read most of Jane Casey’s books in the Maeve Kerrigan series so was really looking forward to a stand-alone novel by this brilliant author.

I certainly wasn’t disappointed, Barrister Ingrid Lewis has defended many clients, but when she defends stalker John Webster, she doesn’t realise how dangerous he can be until she was on the receiving end. Where he begins stalking her, breaking up her relationship, and her home. It begins when she lends another Barrister Belinda Grey her umbrella, whilst crossing the road with the umbrella hiding her face Belinda is run over by a vehicle. Ingrid believes she was the intended target. Because she had had harassment’s and threats made by Webster following a court case.

This is one of those stories where you are gripped as the tension builds and builds until you think it can’t go any further until it does.

The story is told through several timelines from witness statements, court scenes, interviews and messages.

The way Webster impacts Ingrid is cleverly done, as he affects her mental health, He manipulates, he is dangerous, lacks emotion, capable of anything with a smile that is as charming as a crocodile.

Ingrid is forever looking over her shoulder, she doesn’t know who she can trust. When you think things can’t go any further you are wrong.

Some very clever twists come in towards the end, that just threw me. This is one ver well written thriller.

It gives you a good insight into the judicial process and the effect it can have on its victims. This is one of those books that you will not be able to put down until you have finished it.

A masterpiece!! Jane Casey has exceeded herself.

This book is astonishingly good! I was gripped from start to finish and could not put it down.

The story is compelling, the characters are all brilliant and the whole story will keep you guessing the whole way through.

John Webster is a psychopath who clearly does not feel emotions as others do, but is he the only one? And are all his intentions bad ones?

A complex tale of murder, justice, instinct. A must read!

I’m already a huge fan of Jane Casey’s books but, wow, this was such an exceptional read. I raced through The Killing Kind from start to finish. Such an excellent premise, brilliantly executed, with perfectly timed twists and turns. All such brilliant characters - John (very unnerving), Ingrid (so ‘normal’). No idea who to trust, all the way through. Loved the London setting too. So clever and so different from most of the current crime fiction reads. Truly fantastic!

The Killing Kind by Jane Casey brings nervous tension to a new level! I was constantly on edge.

Ingrid Lewis is an accomplished lawyer who seems to be obsessed with a creepy character that she successfully defended in a case a few years ago. She links things which don't seem to be related to the point that she is almost regarded by police as a fantasist. But is there more to this?

I really was unable to relax after reading the first few pages of this nerve-wracking thriller. The series of events and characters that Ingrid meets are increasingly unsettling even when you least expect it. Great plot, very well written.

I enjoyed this book from the start right up until about three quarters of the way through then it got a bit unbelievable for me. I had already guessed the ending and felt a bit let downs I usually love this authors writing. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

Ingrid Lewis is in court defending John Webster on a rape charge when she wins the case and Webster is free Ingrid thinks job done and moves on.But when of her colleagues is run down and killed she realises someone may be stalking her but who ? Jane Casey has once again written a great stand alone thriller which had me gripped from page one as you find out just who Ingrid can trust and who she can't,this book is a good diversion from the excellent Mauve Kerrigan series which i think are outstanding.A very well done Jane Casey on another 5 star book.

I love Jane Casey’s Kerrigan and Derwent series, so I was delighted to see that she had a stand-alone on the way. The Killing Kind sounded like something I would love, and while it is expertly written with a great premise, it didn’t do me any good! 😆 I had nightmares from reading it! That being said, it is going to do so well! And just because it didn’t do me any good, doesn’t mean it’s not excellent!

A seriously well-constructed book that had me absolutely gripped. This is a story with a bit of everything for all types of crime fiction aficionados. There is a psychological element with the stalker of Ingrid Lewis, there is some court room action as Ingrid is a barrister, there is some seriously scary scenes with kidnaps, knives and other weapons and there are of course the police who are there to see justice is done.

The synopsis is straightforward; Ingrid defended a man who was on trial for stalking and once she won, he stalked her. One of the policemen, Adam Nash, warned her she'd regret what she'd done, and she did. She lost her fiancé along with her peace of mind and then some years later too many people that she knew from that time suffered accidents. Had John Webster reignited his obsession with her?

I have been a Jane Casey fan for many years now but she has absolutely outdone herself with this standalone thriller. The characters are so sharp they cut, and they cut deep. The plot is quite simply ingenious; whatever you are expecting from this read, I'm willing to bet you will be wrong and the story flows. It's immensely readable with no jarring scenes, now false cliff-hangers just great writing that is there for you to absorb, wonder at, and of course enjoy.

Yet again Jane Casey produces an utterly absorbing read, she captures your attention from start to finish.

A tense plot full of unexpected twists and turns, Ingrid is a wonderful character that you find yourself fully invested in.

Get ready to be lost in the wonderful world of Jane Casey!
