Overall a bit meh for me. I wanted to love this but it just lacked the hook. Would maybe go back to it at a later date
Anything this author writes is fantastic! When you see the writer’s name, grab the book! You will be in for a ride of a lifetime and then wishing there was more.
A very unique spin on the MASH TV concept. Also very loosely based on the series, with emphasis on loosely. The war between the old gods and the not as old gods has started. So a group of mixed characters has been banded into a MASH group to keep the wounded alive and keep each other entertained. You will find similar plot lines made oh so funny when the characters are paranormals. This book was very fun to read. Im looking forward to the next one.
Very entertaining book! I so loved this book, a great and interesting world, with fun well thought out storyline! I highly recommend this book to everyone!
Set against a backdrop of a never ending war, Petra, a doctor drafted into the new god army, sets a series of events into motion when she uses her unique gift to save the life of a soldier on her operating table. As prophecies are fulfilled, can Petra admit what's in her heart and finally bring peace to this centuries old war?
I’m a big fan of Fox Southern Spirits Mystery series so when I saw this book I had to jump at the chance to read it. A MASH monster story sounded pretty amazing (I’m also a big fan of the series) Unfortunately, I just couldn’t connect with the characters, which caused me not to really care all that much about the plot.
Despite this Fox’s writing is still really good, but it’s missing a little of the charm that made me fall in love with we other series
Overall, not my cup of tea
This was a quick and fun read. Nicely updated from the older originally.
The main characters are easy to like and the story is engaging from start to finish. There is lots of humor, romance, and action.
I’m interested to see how the other books in the series will be updated and modernized.
MONSTER M*A*S*H* is the first book in the Monster MASH series. Previously released as Immortally Yours. The series is a continuing saga and romance that will need to be read in the order or release.
This story gave a lot of nods to the old MASH TV show that I loved, while maintaining its own originality. For example: While Hawkeye and McIntyre called their tent “The Swamp,’ Petra’s tent is next to an actual tar swamp!
The adage is “war is hell.” Now imagine a war that is held in the fields that lead to hell… and while a real seems to last forever, this one has lasted for thousands of years.
So, what did I think of the writing? In a word – AWESOME. It’s a fun story. Tons of great banter. A love interest that is a s-l-o-w burn with lots of wit and charm. I loved reading it. This is the kind of story that I keep at the top of the pile to read again.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via NetGalley, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Fun word building, unique characters, and a wonderful sense of humour. At times the story felt a little superficial, but perfect if you're looking for a fun quick read.
I sat down to start this while everyone calmed down for bed. Now, everyone is sleeping, the book is suddenly over, and my clock has crept significantly closer to the alarm going off. I had no idea the hours had sped by. Another incredibly fantastic series from Angie Fox (with open nods to other peers within the paranormal genre) had me squealing like a teenage girl at their favorite boy band concert. It had everything from an original twist on mythology to incredible characters and brought all the feels. I can’t wipe the grin from my face.
Thank you to NetGalley, Angie Fox, and Moose Island Books for giving me the chance to read this story and share my honest thoughts and opinions with others.
Great first book to a great series! This is a type of fantasy that hasn't really been written before and it was a breath of fresh air! You have paranormal fantasy, drama, romance, and sarcasm which all makes for a super fun read. Petra has a huge secret, and she has a huge demi-god who is out to figure it out (and in turn, figure HER out) all in the middle of an endless war between the ancient gods. Would definitely recommend for a quick, fun read!
The Monster MASH
by Angie Fox
If you fall into a cross section of people who enjoyed the tv shows Mash and Scrubs and reading paranormal romance this is one to check out. This was truly a unique premise that involves significant world building and off the wall turns for literal laughs out loud. The steam was fairly low though there were some nice heart fluttery moments. This is the authors revamping of a previous 2012 book. It’s the first in a continuation but does not have a super annoying/agonizing cliff hanger which was a relief (those irk me). I would categorize it as HFN not necessarily HEA because it’s the first in a series that as I understand it continues with these same characters.
It was fun and offbeat. I enjoyed it, definitely a good choice when in the mood for something different but I’m only mildly curious about what happens next not dying to know right now so 4/5.
Half-fae, half-human doctor Petra Robichaud has been working in a MASH army camp in Limbo for seven years, after being conscripted into the New Gods’ Army, in their endless war against the old gods. Her life is an endless cycle of patching up soldiers and sending them back out to fight again, though it’s easier when most of your patients have super-healing. Except when they leave it too long to come in and you have to re-break bones to put them back together straight.
It’s rare for one of the immortals to die on her operating table, but that’s exactly what happens with demigod Galen of Delphi when a cursed dagger splinters apart inside his body and Petra can’t catch all the pieces. Until Petra uses the ability she’s thus far kept hidden… because it’s outlawed and likely to get her killed, or worse, eternally tortured in any one of a myriad of horribly creative ways. She can see and talk to the souls of the dead. And as Galen of Delphi’s soul leaves his body… she grabs it and stuffs it back in.
Now she has to hope Galen doesn’t remember anything when he wakes up. And pray that she hasn’t just triggered the prophecy which will definitely get her killed when the gods figure out she’s the one prophesied to end the war.
This is funny and clever and I absolutely love Petra, who’s 42 and both old enough to be cynical and yet incredibly young compared to the immortals she’s living amongst. Galen, as a hero, is a bit hard to get to know as the story is told in Petra’s first-person POV; he’s a bit Practically Perfect In Every Way, but as I understand this is a trilogy perhaps we get a bit deeper into his personality in the later books.
The worldbuilding here is amazing. It’s a really huge concept and the author does a great job of spreading the necessary information out rather than doing big expository infodumps. One thing I especially liked is that there is no real good and evil; Petra is in the New Gods’ Army but it’s clear she has no high opinion of them. And realistically, any overlords who give their conscripts 20 minutes of accrued leave per year of service (and don’t allow it to be used until at least a week is accrued) aren’t exactly worthy of loyalty.
I feel like the romance here suffered a bit because there was So Much Plot. It’s really more urban fantasy than paranormal romance; there’s so much plot the romance is spread out over a trilogy and the declaration of love did feel very sudden because Petra and Galen hadn’t actually gotten to spend all that much time together. I genuinely loved the side characters - Jeffe the sphinx was my absolute favourite - and I definitely want to read the rest of the trilogy, but this does have some flaws, mainly with Galen’s characterization. I don’t think being solely in Petra’s first-person POV did this book any favours. I’ll give it four and a half stars.
Years ago the Old Gods went to war against the New Gods over something relatively minor (isn't that always the way). Centuries later, they have the right to conscript any being of supernatural descent to the cause. A conscription that lasts for as long as the Gods have need of them... which for a mortal is a lifetime. Newly graduated surgeon Petra is just one of those unlucky supernatural descended mortals who gets picked -- and now she's been in the army for over seven years.. Worse, she's got an ability that has been outlawed by the Gods -- she can see the dead. Still, life isn't too bad at the MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital). She's got friends -- a vegetarian werewolf, a death-metal loving vampire, and a surprisingly innocent sphinx. Oh who's she kidding, War is H-E-double hockey sticks and Petra is right in the middle of it.
When too-handsome-for-his-own-good Galen of Delphi ends up on her surgical table, Petra breaks all of the rules to keep him alive -- even going so far as to shove his soul back into his body. Now Galen knows her secret. A secret which has painted a very real target on her back. Because there's a prophesy about a healer who can see the dead bringing the end to the war -- and the gods really really don't want that.

This was a surprisingly fun genre defying book. It's like Urban Fantasy met Paranormal Romance and Romantic Comedy and had a threesome with this as the offspring. It's funny and engaging and sexy and honestly pure fun.
The world is massively fascinating. All gods and demi-gods are valid and a lot of them aren't very nice. Supernatural creatures of all types exist from the usual shifters and vampires to sphinxes and souleaters. The world feels lived it... used. There's red tape and bureaucracy. Mini-dinosaurs are looked on as akin to sea monkeys. Every character has a past, a personality -- even if they're just a patient on Petra's table. I did feel like this was a supernatural version of MASH and that Clinger or Hawkeye would walk in with a quip or six. I liked that Petra wasn't a twenty-something... She's 42 and part-Fae. She's also snarky and stand-offish (with good reason). Honestly I really wanted more of the side characters... especially Jeffe. Jeffe was adorable and funny and l loved him. LOL
There is a lot of information that has to be imparted and while for the most part it was done well, I did feel at at times that it slipped into infodump territory. A lot of this is saved by the fact that Petra's character voice is so strong. She's very present even when she's imparting "as you know" information. There was a fun running gag of all of Petra and Galen's kisses being interrupted by something or some one. I found it funny. I found Galen okay. He was very cliched hero type.. he wasn't bad and I liked that he didn't try to force the relationship (he tried to force other things... like the acceptance of the prophecy). But he wasn't memorable in the way of some other heroes. I hope that changes in the other books. I did like that he was honorable and that his honor ended up being plot relevant. The problem I really had was that the romance felt a little rushed and thin on the ground. It wasn't bad... but I wanted more.
The plot itself was interesting... but oddly limited BECAUSE we were so present in Petra's head. The author made a very interesting choice to not have Petra be a part of what would end up being the major action because of realism and her role in the war. I thought it was a neat choice and that it worked... but only because to the care and set up that happened earlier. I appreciated that the author didn't give in to temptation and do this in a dual POV... I think it would have lessened the impact of several scenes and ultimately the novel itself. There were a few places that I felt would have been improved by having a bit more conversation/action. It was egregious enough (and I noted it enough times) that it lessened my enjoyment. I also noticed several comma faults and wrong words, which also distracted me.
In all, this is a fun, fascinating Urban Paranormal Fantasy. I loved the world. I really liked the characters. I'm interested in reading more.
Four stars
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley
I'm a big fan of Angie Fox's Southern Ghost Hunter series so when I saw this trilogy I had to check it out! I had a little bit more trouble getting into this than the Southern Ghost Hunter books, but once I got into it I was loving it! The characters were incredibly entertaining, especially Rodger. Pryra got a little irritating at times with the romantic aspect. She flip flopped from being totally into Galen to not wanting anything to do with him. Despite that part, I really liked it and am looking forward to reading the next book!
This book was SO MUCH FUN!
A half-human/half fae doctor is taken by the Gods to work in a Mash unit on another plane.
She operates on a half-god soldier, who becomes her mate, despite her trying to ship him out.
Her tent mates are supernatural of course, a vampire who has constant conquests in his bunk, and a werewolf who is a dedicated family man.
Sounds like the usual paranormal story right? Not at all.
The setting and cast of characters, is unlike anything I've read before. Just enough "real" Mash description to make it easy to imagine.. The story, while a standalone, is set for the next book in the series.
I was granted a free ARC for my honest opinion.
**I was provided with an ARC from Author Collective 20, Angie Fox and Netgalley for an honest review**
The description for this book made me excited for this book. I loved the show MASH so I had high expectations.
Dr. Petra is serving army surgeon, involuntarily drafted in a war between the old gods and new. The war is never-ending and she will likely die at the front. Commander Galen of Delphi shows up one day, fatally injured and one small, dangerous act brings him back from death. Basically this rash resurrection to use her secret power not only fulfilled a prophesy but brought her life at risk, tying Galen and Petra together.
This is a weird, quick, quirky book with funny moments and great characters. Petra is a strong woman, doing her best, trying to make a difference by saving lives. I loved her trying to avoid Galen and how he lowkey manipulate her friends by being nice and kind and generous. Rodger annoyed me with his avoidance issues and the undercurrent message throughout the book that Petra did not have similar worth than Rodger because she didn't have a family. Personally Jeffe was my favourite character with his sincerity and integrity. I wish he should up more (especially at inconvenient times).
I wish liked this book more and clicked with the overall storyline. . The love story was way too fast for me as an enemies-to-lovers stan only the humour parred me over and potential hero sacrifice was going to happen to stop the war. Once Petra and Galen decided to date (around mark 65%) I became bored. Petra's interior monologue became tedious and repetitive and the stakes didn't feel real.
I tend to like stories with prophesies, especially when the interpretation can be widely different from what you think or what they characters expect. The prophesies in this book had potential but didn't live up to the realisation of them.
The ending was anti-climactic and I was hoping that Galen ended up a ghost at the end for a cool twist but alas it was not meant to be. How the war was put on hold didn't feel deserved and felt convenient.
I probably won't continue with the series.
Paranormals meet Greek gods your vibe? Then is this a book for you. I loved the different take this author brought to gods and paranormal creatures and combined it all plus put them right in the middle of a war. And let’s not forget the prophecies that complicate everything we know.
I loved the balance of witty banter to sweet and sexy moments. And I absolutely adored the characters we got to meet through the eyes of our badass mortal mash surgeon and can’t not wait to see where adventure and prophecies take her next!!
The Monster MASH by Angie Fox (Monster M*A*S*H 1) has Dr Petra Robichaud drafted into an eternal war between the old gods and the new gods, and is at a MASH camp (think of the US comedy series, M*A*S*H based in South Korea during the Korean war). Petra can see the dead, and saves Galen, who believes that she is the person that the oracles predict.
This is a fun fantasy romp, and I'm looking forward to reading the other two books in this series!
The Monster MASH was published with this title on 29th December 2020. It was previously published with a different title (Immortally Yours), and a different cover. You can buy it through Amazon .

3.5/5.0
What a entertaining and creative twist for a paranormal series! A half human, half fey young surgeon is forcibly drafted into an other-world MASH unit where the Gods are fighting a war for control of the world - and humanity. It is total light-hearted enjoyment set against a mystery/suspense/romance backdrop.
Much of the story did need more understanding in depth and background of both the characters and situations, however. So many small things were just brushed over and left open that it became frustrating in the overall understanding, leaving the reader entertained but not really fulfilled. Still, the entertainment aspect is all kinds of fun and often that is just what is needed!
