I would describe Toff's books as chick lit with a difference. It has everything I love about a romance story but it has so many other layers. The main characters are real, with their own perceived flaws. The focus isn't just on romance, it's on strong friendships and strong women, which I think are great role models for any younger readers. Yes, the romance storyline is fairly predictable but all the other aspects to the story make it a captivating read.
The setting of this book is beautiful, I only wish I could've been reading it on a beach somewhere! Ready to start book 3 now!
This is the second book in the ‘meet me’ series, the first one being ‘Meet me in London’ which I read over Christmas and loved. This series focuses on four women, and the strong friendship between them, each book following one woman in particular. I adore these characters and their bond with each other, in particular their ‘lost hours’ phone call rule. It reminds me of my own five best friends who I know would be there for me no matter what 💕
This one picks up the storyline where Meet me in London left off, only this time instead of Victoria in snowy London, there is a change in climate and we follow Malie, who lives in Hawaii and works at a surfing school.
I adored this, it was such an easy read feel good romance, and the setting is perfect for summery days and leaves you craving a beach holiday!
This was beautifully written, and I loved the character development and how Malie progressed by the end. The whirlwind romance was perfect, and I loved the relationship between Malie and Todd, from the dramatic way they meet to the way they both have to fight the demons in their past before they can move on.
I’m moving on to the third in the series now and can’t wait to keep following this storyline and see what happens next!
The perfect summer read. I enjoyed following Malie’s story and look forward to the next instalment in the series. Definitely recommend.
A nice easy beach read, not as gripping as Georgia's last book, but still a light easy escapest read.
This was the easy read I needed of a weekday evening. I really enjoyed her first book and this was of a similar vein but I’d have rathered she change it up a little.
Such a lovely book, really easy read, which was just what I needed. I can't wait to read more by this author.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
Fun in the Sun, holiday romance. Todd charity owner with the troubled past meets Malie surf instructor hiding from her pain and grief. What follows is a sweet romance, as they both try to confront their pasts for a better future. A light breezy easy summer read
I have just finished the second of the four books in the "Meet me" series and this time we follow Malie and her story with Todd. I really liked the setting of the story, it made me wish I was away somewhere similar.
In comparison to the first book, Meet me in London, I didn't like this one quite as much but that may because my expectations were higher this time after loving the first book.
Still it was a great easy read, thank you.
With the first book being set in London I could picture myself in some of the locations. I have never been to Hawaii or particularly imagined myself there but how wonderful is it that we get to travel to these gorgeous places just for the price of an ebook?
I feel like our couple here had to work harder than most for their HEA but it was so worth it in the end. Two quite different people but so right for each other. This book reminded me of the film Chalet Girl and I’m here for it.
I can’t wait to learn which of the four friends the next book is about because they all seem to have such interesting lives and careers.
What a wonderful setting for a book. You can imagine the waves crashing on the beach, the surfboards waiting to be taken out and a lovely spark of romance. The characters are really well drawn and instantly make you warm to them.
The surf scene is an essential part of the book and you easily lose yourself in the sunny beach and sparkling blue seas.
This is the first book I've read by Georgia Toffolo and I'm keen to read her first book now.
I really enjoyed this book. This is the second book in the ‘Meet Me’ series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Learning about another member of the group was wonderful and having the others in the story felt like a lovely link to the previous book without rehashing the first storyline. I really liked the main characters, I felt quite attached to them by the end. I did shed a few tears at the end but definitely tears of happiness.
So this is the second instalment of the Cove friends and I was excited to see what happened with Malie in Hawaii. I loved Meet Me in London so was so happy when NetGalley accepted my request.
The premise is really lovely, especially Todd and the Foundation. Todd is just something special! The beach and surfing made me really excited to go on holiday again one day.
I felt some of the descriptions became a bit repetitive and Malie a bit frustrating at times! But as the story went on I just became more engaged with the story. I personally preferred Meet Me in London but I still enjoyed this one!
I very much enjoyed this book, which is the second in the series about a group of four friends. This one focuses on Malie Pukui. She does not believe that happy endings exist, so she avoids getting too involved with anyone, except her three closest friends, Victoria, Lils and Zoe. When she was a girl she lived in Cornwall, where her parent ran a surfing school. Her older brother died of cancer, and the family unit struggled. Her parents gave up the school and wouldn’t let Malie do anything, especially the surfing she adored. She couldn’t talk to them, they only ever argued. Her friend Zoe was her only release, they would sneak off to surf without her parents knowing. But tragedy occurred again, the four girls were travelling to their school graduation dance when they were hit by another car. Malie and Lils just had a few scratches, but Victoria and Zoe had life-changing injuries, Zoe would never walk again and Victoria would never be able to have children. Soon afterwards Malie ran away to Hawaii, where she helped her godfather run a surfing school. She specialised in helping people with problems, and became quite well known for her work.
The book begins with her going out to catch a few waves at the end of the day, before she has to go to a cocktail party. As she is coming back in to shore on her last wave before going home to get ready she sees a man in difficulty, he has been caught in a rip current which is pulling him along. She rescues him, with difficulty, he is fully clothed and she cannot understand why he is in the water. Once back on the beach she discovers he was trying to rescue her dog Nalu, who was a good swimmer and didn’t need rescuing. Once she is sure he is safe she rushes away to get ready for the cocktail party.
Todd Masters is an extremely rich man, and a philanthropist. He runs a charity helping children with problems, and spends most of his free time working with the charity. Like Malie he has a hang up about happiness. His mother died when he was born, and his father turned to drink to hide from his grief. Todd spent his childhood in various foster homes, with short periods of time with his father. From a very young age he worked hard at anything he could get, delivering newspapers, parcels, whatever; and as soon as he was old enough he was proud to buy himself a car, it was old and a bit battered but he was able to pay cash. He proved to be something of a genius at business and was soon an extremely wealthy man. His father by this time was no longer drinking, his greatest friend had died of cancer and it made him pull himself together. But it did not make their relationship easier, he refused help from Todd, and although he helped with the charity he would not accept payment for it.
So we have two lost souls meeting on the beach and discovering each other at a cocktail party, and there is instant and deep attraction, which neither of them can handle in their messed up lives. Todd has bought a small group of children from London to have a few weeks learning to surf, Malie’s charity work had been noticed! While the book twists and turns with the pair of them avoiding being together but unable to keep apart, the children are having a wonderful time, gaining confidence by the day, especially Tara, who has more problems than most. She is a real bright spark in the story.
The story moves along at a cracking rate, like a dance they draw together then move apart, perhaps getting closer to happiness together with each interaction, so it is heartbreaking when they appear to break up for the final time. But it is a time of adjustment for both of them, they need the space to sort out the issues in their lives. Todd keeps checking on her, and when she is interviewed during a surfing contest he knows he must be there for the final. The final chapters are extremely emotional, a tissue is required to mop up the tears!
The second of the four books in the "Meet me" series and this time we follow Malie, a pro. surfer and surf teacher who first meets Todd by rescuing him from a rip tide in Hawaii. They have an immediate connection and it's clear to see, as a reader, how perfect they are for one another but Malie holds back. I found this on, off, on, off relationship frustrating at times!
I struggled to get into the book at the start but once I was about 30% of the way through, I enjoyed it.
In comparison to the first book, Meet me in London, I didn't like this one quite as much but that may because my expectations were higher this time after loving the first book.
I will definitely be reading the third book though; Me me in Tahiti which follows Zoe and comes out in September.
Another lovely story from Georgia!
The beautiful setting of Hawaii with Malie and Todd as the struggle with their pasts and how the can overcome it?! I really enjoyed this book
This is the second book in the Meet me .... series and follows on from the first, this one is about Malie. The story begins as she starts a new life in Hawaii . You don’t need to read the first book even though it’s a series, you can definitely read this as a stand-alone, you won’t miss put on anything if you have not read the first. I enjoyed this, there isn’t too much to it, but is a light and easy romance fun and flirty.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
I absolutely adore Georgia Toffolo and her first book Meet me in London. This book, Meet Me in Hawaii follows on from the first book but with the main character being Malie Pukui. Malie is a surf instructor in Hawaii and has been since she isn't on good terms with her parents, she felt stifled by them after the loss of her brother to cancer.
Malie comes across as this hard person but really she is still grieving the loss of her brother and her relationship with her parents. The book shows her growth as a person with the help of sexy billionaire Todd Masters. He gets her to open her eyes about what she really wants and what she can do to be happy.
This book is the second in the series but I feel that it is better off as a stand alone. The mention of the characters from the previous book is there and there is enough of an explanation as to why Malie is in Hawaii as a surf instructor. I felt that this book was more about the characters than the actual location and even though this isn't a bad thing having never been to Hawaii I would have loved more descriptions of the area.
Overall this is a fun and sexy book, there isn't much I would say to a storyline but the characters are cute and I liked that they were both finding themselves.
I really enjoyed the first book of this series and I was looking forward to reading Malie's book. This book gave me major summer vibes. With sun, sand and cocktails it's everything we have all been craving since this pandemic started. If you need a summer escape pick up this book.
Malie is still grieving for her brother and for the life, her friends could have had. When Mallie was 18 she and her friends had a car accident. Malie was lucky and went away with a few scratches but not all of them were that lucky and Malie has always felt guilty about this. Malie also lost her brother to cancer many years ago. Malie has never dealt with her loss or her survivor guilt. All I wanted to do is give Malie a big hug and tell her to let it all out. I wanted to tell her it's okay to feel this way but that she needed to live her life too.
Todd Masters is a delectable hunk of a man. Todd has worked extremely hard to get where he is and he wants to give back to kids who are facing similar situations to him. He wants to show these kids that there are opportunities for them. Todd and Malie have that instant attraction in their meet-cute, which was also a very funny scene.
This story is cute and romantic. It's a perfect light-hearted easy read. I am really looking forward to the other 2 friends in this group getting their own books.
This is the second in a series following a group of friends, each book telling a different girl's story, but can easily be read as a stand alone.
It tells the story of Malie who teaches surfing in Hawaii and meets a rich businessman and charity worker Todd whose charity brings children from difficult childhoods to Hawaii to have a holiday and learn to surf.
She meets Todd and is instantly attracted to him but is reluctant to take it further as like the children she teaches she has her own problems. Loss of her brother, a breakdown in her relationship with her parents and guilt over an accident which left her friend Zoe in a wheelchair. Will she sort everything out or be left on her own?
I am already looking forward to the next book due out later this year.
I really enjoyed this book. Having previously read Meet Me in London, I was really excited to read this latest book in this series. Todd and Malie’s chemistry was evident from their first meeting and the whole relationship felt really natural. I liked that both characters were allowing their previous tragedies to hold them back and that when they opened up, they took steps to overcome them.
Although this book is part of a series, it would work as a standalone. Would definitely recommend.
