Shalvis is becoming a firm favourite of mine!
She pull on my heartstrings & had me so emotionally invested in these characters, I couldn't close the book until I'd read the very last page..
I can't wait to see what she does next.
The Forever Girl
by Jill Shalvis
A series based around Wildstone featuring four main characters Maze,Walker, Caitlin and Heather all estranged by a tragedy though they all have each others’ back even if from afar. The story finds them all back together for Caitlin’s wedding. Follow the journey of this splintered family as they try to mend wounds that kept apart for nearly a decade .
Laughter ,tears second chances and secrets that have to be shared this book covers it all but will this family finally become whole finally ?
A must read from Jill Shalvis.4.5/5
Another fantastic book by Jill sjalbis, she never disappoints readers. We meet four of the main characters that get together every year for the accident anniversary. All four of them live their lives so far away but they all have each others backs when needed and they keep tabs on each other from afar. Caitlyn s getting married and they all gave their family issues and with this nug wedding coming along, they all have to work out their issues for the big day.
This is a brilliant emotional read. Lived it
Jill Shalvis has written a cracking sixth novel in her 'Wildstone' series set in a fictional lakeside town. I started this series jumping in at book four with Almost Just Friends but haven't managed to pick up the series again until reading this novel, The Forever Girl.
In this one, the reader meets Maze, Walker, Caitlin and Heather. The story begins as they gather for their yearly graveside visit after a tragic accident led to them becoming estranged. Tension and guilt brought about a massive chasm within their relationship though they continued to keep tabs on each other from a distance. Now, Caitlin is getting married and she wants her family around her for her big day. Caitlin's parents fostered Maze, Heather, and Walker as children and the story follows them all as they gather for the wedding, and work through their respective issues.
The Forever Girl was a delightful tale that took me on an emotional journey of friendship, family bonding, healing, forgiveness, and second chances. In a fascinating story that drew me in right from the first pages, it dealt with hard-hitting issues, which I could relate to. There were many moments of anxiety however, Jill Shalvis balances these with humour to lighten the load. I liked that the relationships between the core group of characters were as much of a focus as Maze's romance, helping to keep matters even more interesting. The bonus of two pugs Roly & Poly was a brilliant touch, too. Fans of Jill Shalvis will enjoy this offering. I hope to read some of the instalments I've missed and I'm keen to see what's happening in Wildstone in book seven, Love for Beginners. A great, very highly recommended story.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Headline Eternal via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.
Maze has returned to Wildstone for a wedding of her friend that she hasn't seen in a number of years. Maze, Cat, Heather and Walker spent a summer together when Cat's parents fostered the three others. They have stayed in touch years later but a tragedy that happened that summer has strained their relationships.
I liked this book but it, unfortunately, wasn't a new favourite for me. I liked the plot premise for this book. However, I did feel that the chemistry between Maze and Walker was lacking. I like the second chance romance trope but I just didn't really like Maze and Walker as a couple.
Overall I thought that this was a good quick read. I do plan to read the other books in this series as they are stand a lones and don't need to be read in order.
A sweet, romantic read, perfect escapism, I don’t think I’ve read a book by Jill before, but I’ll definitely be reading more now. It’s a gorgeous story full of family, community and of course love. It’s well written and the characters are so well developed, you can connect with them instantly. Wonderful read to make me smile
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
I have read a few books by this author now and have enjoyed each one. Forever Girl takes a close look at family dynamics. Despite the family in question comprising of natural and foster kids, the relationships are complex and the story hints at a dark secret.
Gathered back in their hometown, Maze, Heather and Walker have returned to attend the forthcoming wedding of their sister Cat. Whilst Cat is the birth daughter of their foster parents, their connection is no different to a blood family. An argument, with Maze, had caused the siblings to go their separate ways and that fight casts a dark shadow over the reunion.
As they learn to rub along together, the old relationships come to the fore. Cat is the one trying to ensure that everyone is happy. Heather is the one who they all want to look after, but it’s with Maze and Walker that the bigger secrets lie.
The presence of Maze’s boss, acting as her plus one, is not enough to prevent the chemistry between them from coming to the fore. What happened in Vegas must stay in Vegas; nothing can allow their secrets to be revealed.
I thoroughly enjoy Jill’s style of writing and can almost imagine her books being thrillers; she writes in such a way that the reader only learns a fraction of the truth, at a time. This certainly keeps the reader engaged and I was eager to see how the story plays out. I don’t believe that it’s a spoiler to say that the end, justifies the means and the final chapters bring the story to a most satisfying conclusion.
This escape took me to California, and it was a wonderful trip. I hope you enjoy meeting the Forever Girl.
As soon as I read the description for this book it had me intrigued, so when given the opportunity to both read and review it i jumped at the chance. From the very first page I found it incredibly difficult to put this book down.
I adore the characters in this book, and the friendship that is shared between Maze, Heather, Caitlin and Walker is so incredibly heart warming. As the story progresses, we learn more about them as individuals and their lives and secrets they keep. The more I discovered about the characters, the more I loved them!.
This story was filled with romance, family, love, and perfectly highlighted the importance of second chances. I certainly went through a range of emotions whilst reading this beautiful story, from laughter, to sadness, and everything in between.
The book was so beautifully written, you truly found yourself connecting with the characters, the settings and the situations they found themselves in. Although this is in fact the sixth book in the series, it is also possible to read it as a standalone story, however I am certain that once you have read one of Jill’s books, you will be desperate to read the full collection!.
Beautifully written, loveable characters, and a heart warming storyline. This book was perfection.
The Forever Girl was a book that I did not realise that I needed to read. From the very first page, I wanted to stop what I was doing and just delve into these characters. Find out more about the secrets they keep and what keeps them all together.
Also do not be put off that this is the sixth book in the series. I feel like series is the wrong word. It is more a collection of stories based in the same area. So if you have not read the others do not panic! But after reading this amazing book you may want to pick up more of Jill's books for yourself!
Okay, so honesty time, at the time of this review I’m only 60% of the way through. And if it wasn’t for an early start and work I would be definitely doing an all-nighter to finish this book.
I love Heather, Maze, Walker and Caitlin. Despite everything you can feel their warmth and their friendship. I loved how each chapter we got to learn more about them and their secrets.
The Forever Girl has encoded so many feelings; romance, love, family, the need to have second chances, and even thirds. I have laughed, cried, held my breath and smiled throughout.
This has honestly been one of my favourite books of the year and I cannot wait to dive back in after work.
On a side note I really love the italic thoughts at the start of each chapter, the last one may have made me snort... just thought I would share.
I absolutely loved this book! The usual funny, snarky, emotional sort of story I would expect from Jill Shalvis and as usual she didn't disappoint.
The story is about four friends, three foster children (Maze, Heather & Walker) and one the child of the family doing the fostering (Caitlin). There were two children in the foster family, but due to an awful accident one died and ripped the 'family' apart as they were unable to keep fostering because of the situation.
But all the remaining four kept in touch, although Maze was always the loose canon of the group, as she blamed herself for the incident. But Caitlin, the mother hen, made sure they all kept in touch, and as she was getting married this book was all about the run up to her wedding, after she sneakily managed to get them all together again for a week before her wedding.
I loved all the characters (well apart from Caitlin's finance!) and the way they were always there for each other. They had a really strong family bond even though they weren't related by blood. There are quite a few secrets revealed as we go along and we get to know the characters better.
I am a big Jill Shalvis, but this is one of my favourite books to date, and certainly my favourite of the Wildstone series - so far anyway!
Amazing! Beautiful. I felt so invested in this story. Great characters and setting as always. Love Jills books
If you have seen any of my book reviews or we are friends on Goodreads, you'll know I am a huge romance reader. I just can't stop reading romances and I would class this book as a contemporary with storylines of family, forgiveness, friendship and a little romance. It's also a book about honesty and I really appreciated that and how it's sometimes difficult to be honest with your feelings. This book was really moving and while it was an emotional read, it was still uplifting and I loved the ending.
I really liked the characters in this, especially Walker! I liked seeing how all of their relationships evolved throughout the book and you get to see the good and the bad sides of that. But overall this is a book about family. This book does discuss the foster system which is something I did know a lot about but I liked how it was covered in this book too.
This was such a pleasant read and I loved the writing style, it was such an easy book to read which I know aren't always easy to write and I flew through it. I loved how we got multiple points of view. This is the sixth book in the Wildstone series but each book can be read as a standalone and in any order.
4.5 - "Truth is... I'd probably go anywhere with you." Stars!
We return to the Wildstone Series, with book six; The Forever Girl giving us Maze, Walker & Caitlin's stories. Family though not through blood, as Maze and Walker were fostered by Cat's parents in their teens, but one night, one housefire and one death irreparably tears them apart, the effects still being felt and dealt with by each of them, especially as they are forced into a week of close proximity by Cat for the build up to her wedding.
Siblings of the heart...
There's alot going on in this one, as with all the previous books in the series you get the story from multiple POV's as well as a plethora of characters dealing with their own personal issues as the plot between them all plays out. Maze and Walker's reconnection is the biggest point for me, but Cat and her wedding also take a pivotal part in the story especially in the second half, as well as the thing that binds them all together, the fire that burned Cats parents house down and took her younger brother near onto a decade ago.
"We're going to have to talk eventually..."
Love, laughs, drama, angst and plenty of characters to keep things moving along steadily The Forever Girl takes you on the journey with Maze, Walker and Cat, towards their new normals, and I really enjoyed being on the rollercoaster with them.
This book has so much emotional depth, it just takes your breath away. The characters are so easy to relate to and fall in love with that I became totally immersed in the story and read it all in one go. I loved the romance, but there are also themes of family, friendship and overcoming difficult times which make it so much more complex and interesting. It made me laugh, cry and is definitely going on my keeper shelf!
THE TENSION
I adore this storyline for Maze and Walker and would so love to see more from them! A story of finding family again after a period of separation. One where you also find yourself.
Really loved this book! I could and would read it again.
I love Jill Shalvis’s stories. She writes so beautifully and draws you in. This was no exception. Maze and Walker’s characters were a joy to read and Maze’s relationship with her adopted family and friends was very moving and really well written.
A total joy to read from start to finish. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a preview copy of this book.
Guys.
NO seriously GUYS.
This book was amazing.
I wasn’t too sure how I would feel about this book, the cover is so deterring. It reminds me of a Meg Cabot book circa 2005 which with my current reading patterns? I was not in the mood for.
The Flo of the past was so wrong, so so wrong. Ignore her, listen to the Flo of now and read this book.
This book is number 6 in a series, but you honestly do not need to read the previous 5 to understand the characters or enjoy the book, cause I haven’t. It’s part of the same universe, but not the same characters.
It’s a multi-perspective book about love, loss and family. It sounds so cliche, but it really really made me warm all over.
I can’t stress how amazing this book is, Walker is BAE.
There are some great steamy parts in this book, some GREAT steamy parts. I had to cross my legs at some point because it was making me feel all the things. All of them.
Wow! This book totally broke me. It’s rare for me to cry at books but I sat with tears streaming down my face at certain parts of this book. Such beautiful and moving writing. The feelings portrayed and how they are portrayed are so raw and real and from start to finish I felt I was in the room with each and everyone of the characters.
From the opening pages, the love and friendship was felt, the pull between Walker and Maze was there even with no words being said between them, the author certainly has a magic way with words and scene setting.
I could identify with parts of each characters, I guess that’s why the whole thing moved me so much. I loved Sammie and Jace was a perfect side character who I instantly loved as he stepped up to help a friend in need.
I was genuinely sad to see the end of this book, I wanted it to go on forever.
The forever girl is such a heartwarming story.
A family brought back together by a wedding, so many past secrets and moments that needs to be overcome, so much heartbreak but also hope in a better future , in making each one of them a better person and even finding love again next to the right person.
Many regrets and past bad decisions, but everything looks brighter when they come to realise that it’s not worth it and it’s better to forget and to forgive.
I really enjoyed all the characters, each one bringing something new, something fresh to the story. And the love story was quite good and well done because I love a second chance romance and this one ticks all the boxes in my cards.
Fans of the author’s books will enjoy this one immensely
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
This book was a really enjoyable read. Dealing with a bit of everything - tragedy, heartbreak, family, friendship, second chances and love.
I loved all the characters - Caitlin, Maze, Heather and Walker. They were always there for each other, even if they had different dynamics.
So, If you’re after a book that will make you smile, laugh, cry, sigh, and love.
Then this is the book for you.
Recommend it.
