After enjoying Penny Parkes' previous books (the Private Practive series), I was curious to see what she would write next, as this was marketed as more serious and heartfelt read. I am happy to report that it is indeed a wonderful story full of heart that handles some sensitive topics with care and warmth.

I found Anna's journey very interesting and I loved how her arc developed slowly but firmly. A great win from Parkes for me. I will for sure follow this author's next releases, as I am sure she will come up even more wonderful stories.

A quite poignant story about home, the place where your heart is, surrounded by the people you love.
A cast of warm, interesting characters that help and support Anna in many ways. The novel jumps back and towards in time to recall significant events in Anna's past but this is done well and is easy to follow.
Highly enjoyable and one to recommend.

A heart-breaking story about family, belonging and the friends you make becoming your support network. Anna grew up in the case system, and due to that, changed foster parents and houses frequently. She got into a rhythm of travelling, moving from place to place frequently, so she works as a house sitter professionally. For a decade, she moved from place to place in a tight schedule, booked up months ahead of time and explored many different areas and regions of the country.

After her closest friend’s wedding, Anna encounters some trouble with the owners of the house she was house sitting for. She has to make a quick escape and take a new posting at a holiday home in a remote location, where the locals are very unfriendly to those from out of town. Slowly, she befriends the neighbours, who are beloved in the community and she becomes integrated into the fold.

The story is written in chronological order, starting from the wedding, with flashbacks to Anna’s upbringing interspersed in the story. Anna’s story is so earnest and you can see how much her childhood impacted her adult years and the work she has to do in order to work through it. I would definitely recommend this story to anyone who has has a scattered upbringing or who has felt like they miss that feeling of home.

A beautiful story about how home is where you make it. I enjoyed the beginning of this, bur I felt it lost its way towards the middle and I struggled to keep up with it.

Lovely read that kept me hooked and wanting to keep reading and it not to end. Loved the main characters Anna, Callow and Kate and how their stories progressed. For anyone that wants and easy but capturing story you won't be dissappointed.

This book hits home for a lot of people. Not knowing what to do career wise and not wanting to be tied down to one address and wanting to see the world. I think that sets this apart from many books because it can be easily related to. It took me a while to get into this book. It was a book that if I put down I didn’t immediately want to pick it back up again but as I was reading I couldn’t put it down. Wanting to know if they settle down with someone or find a place to live kept me hooked. I’m glad I persevered with this story as it was easy to follow and it did created a warm feeling of content once I had finished it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes easy reads.

A fantastic read, that made me ponder.

I liked how we really got to know Anna and her almost her life story and the choices she has made to lead her to where she is And is she really happy with it all. Anna goes on a journey of self discovery that wasn't planned but due to a traumatic event it is pushed.

Some parts of the story I was expecting but made it a well rounded book. Thought provoking and melancholy read and perfect for a rainy day.

Your roots are what you make them, surround yourself with people who matter to you.

Great story of Anna … her background frames her thinking and she’s constantly shifting and putting off reality.

Good life lesson - if she allows herself to trust and have long term relationships she will open herself up to much more.

Lovely characters - not huge amounts of description but somehow it was all very vivid and came alive. Enjoyable read, although a little melancholy (understandably) in places. 4*++++

Absolutely adored penny’s larkford series so was very excited to read Home!
Home is a concept we take for granted much of the time, however to Anna the main character, home is a many faceted thing complicated by memories, experiences, previous trauma and unresolved issues! Anna due to her childhood experiences is constantly on the move never putting roots down and shying away from stability and permanence, however that all changes once a realisation occurs re her childhood and with that the need for a base a sense of belonging begins! Never underestimate that sense of belonging and home, don’t take it for granted and just enjoy that feeling of permanence.
Thank you netgalley for this early read.

This is a story about what home is to you; when you have to make your own home. This is a thought provoking and touching story. Thank you for the ARC.

Anna is a professional house sitter, meaning she doesn't have a fixed abode and goes from assignment to assignment looking after other people's houses and pets. This is a lifestyle she chose after graduating from Oxford with a first with the dream of writing a book, or at least this is what she told her best friend Kate.
On surface it seems such a fascinating life, living her dream in stunning homes, but as the latest events show this is just a facade and Anna just doesn't want to commit to a place or make any long term decisions. However, one event is about to start a series of events that will change all of this.

A truly warming book, one that will make you reflect on the true meaning of calling a place a home and reflect on what a life in care can lead to. Absolutely captivating reading.

Firstly a big thank you to the team at Books and the city with Simon and Schuster for my beautiful copy and having me on the tour.

I have loved Penny’s previous books in rhe Larkford series so was really excited to read this standalone. Her writing is evocative and compelling . The book draws you in straight away and stays with you long after you finish.

I related to the character so much with my own personal childhood experience. Completely thought provoking for me in that sense .

Heart warming and life affirming.

Anna is on a journey of self discovery and finding her own place both emotionally and physically .

Through challenges with people through work and her family she grows in strength and resilience.

Written in alternate timelines we get to understand how and why she is the way she is.

A great read which I highly recommend. Published 8th July and do check out the other blogs taking part in the tou

This has been an outstanding and magnificent read. I have devoured this book from cover to cover in one fantastic sitting.

I have loved the journey through this one with Anna. She has been likeable and realistic from the very beginning.

I love the glimpses into the past. They have allowed us to really to get to know Anna. This is heartwarming and been a perfect escape from the pandemic.

I adore Penny Parkes, this is a novel which focuses on finding yourself. I would love to revisit characters from this book. Parkes tackles real issues sensitively and within the pages of a beautiful read.

A gem worthy of all the stars.

Loved the beginning of this but the story kept going to different timelines which got confusing and just didn`t flow for me.

Anna is a professional house and pet sitter, brought up in care she is used to being moved around and not having a home to settle in. She is desperately looking for a home.

Loved the beginning with Anna moving jobs of house sitting and making friends, and I wanted to see how the friendship continued but the story went off into the past frequently and just didn`t seem to go anywhere for me.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC
