I needed a book hug and I knew the author I could go to who would give me a comforting uplifting storyline with familiarity and a community spirit would be Heidi Swain so I was counting on A Taste of Home to warm my heart.
Fliss has grown up surrounded by the love of the only family she has ever known on the Rossi’s family farm in Puglia, but after the death of her mum she is handed a letter from her revealing that her biological family are from a little town called Wynbridge in England and she urges her to go to meet them.
When she arrives at Fenview farm and meets her Grandfather she soon finds that both need her love, care and attention and with farming in her blood she is determined to get their families fruit farm thriving again.
We are taken back to the idyllic town of Wynbridge and visit the much loved Cherry Tree Café but if you are reading this review and haven’t read any of Heidi’s novels before don’t be put off if this will be your first visit to Wynbridge because this can easily be read as a standalone novel you will just find that the town and its community will get under your skin and you will soon be reaching for The Cherry Tree Café book too!
I do love books that have strong willed and determined women who are determined to start up businesses and I was really routing for Fliss to make a success with her ambitious plans after making such a big decision to step away from the family she has always known to make a new start in a new country with a family she has only just found out about.
Fliss wastes no time in attracting male attention and finds herself in a love triangle but it is clear that her heart lays with one man more so, no matter how much idle gossip tries to change her mind!
The community spirit that Heidi always manages to bring to each of her novels is plentiful in A Taste of Home and Fliss is taken under their wings finding great friends and business opportunities along the way to make her feel that her new roots in England are here to stay. There was plenty of mouth-watering treats that were being baked in this book which got my taste buds tingling!
I have loved all of Heidi Swain’s novels but The Cherry Tree Café has always been my absolute favourite with none of her other books coming close to my love of this book but I have to say that A Taste of Home is sitting pretty up there alongside it now as this one captured my heart just as much. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend this feel good comforting storyline and I can’t wait to hopefully get a glimpse at the progress Fliss has made in future books set in Wynbridge.
Another fantastic book by Heidi Swain!, I absolutely love all of her books, there is nothing quite like sitting in your favourite chair and being transported to another world, Heidi's stories make me feel like I am actually there, like an invisible bystander, observing amazing characters coming to life, travelling with them and experiencing a whole range of emotions as they do....happiness, joy ,sadness and loss.
This is really great feel good story, if you haven't read any of Heidi's books before, it will make you want to read all of Heidi's other books.....Those of us who have read all of them already, it will bring a smile to your face being re-introduced to characters from some of Heidi's other books.
5 Stars from me!!!!
First of all, thank you Heidi Swain, Netgally and Simon Schuester for allowing me to read this early release of A Taste of Home 😊
I have read all the Wynbridge books and I was so happy to be back there again, this time following Fliss from Italy to find her Grandad.
All of Heidi's characters are so likeable and Fliss is so friendly and warm and you really are rooting for her. This book is a joy to read, an absolute feel good book and and one that I highly recommend 👌
I was thrilled to be accepted to read and review A Taste of Home by Heidi Swain. Thank you netgalley and Simon & Schuster UK.
I've read every one of Heidi's books and have loved them all. A Taste of Home was no exception.
Follow Fliss and her journey to Wynbridge from Italy to find out more about her estranged family after her Mother sadly passes away and leaves her a letter filled with secrets.
It was a real treat to go back to Wynbridge and explore new characters as well as visit some old familiar faces.
As with all of Heidi's books the story draws you in and you don't want it to finish. It's just like a big hug in a book and I'm sure we could all do with one of those at this moment in time.
If you enjoy light hearted, easy reading with likeable characters and a couple of twists in the tale then A Taste of Home ticks all those boxes.
Thank you Heidi for such a gorgeous story. I'm looking forward to the next instalment already.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 from me!
Firstly, thank you to NetGalley, Heidi and the publisher for allowing me to read this advance copy of A Taste of Home.
As with all of Heidi's characters, Fliss is extremely likeable. She's warm and friendly and her uncertain position in the world gives you a sense of sympathy and a desire for her journey to turn out well. The other characters she meets are also loveable, genuine and authentic. In some ways it's hard to work out why Fliss was taken in by the actions of one character (no spoilers, so won't say who), however it is entirely plausible to be taken in by someone when you're embroiled in that situation. Therefore, the story is believable and you do feel for Fliss as she is open and trusting, even when people don't deserve her to be.
It's lovely to be back in the town of Wynbridge, which is where Heidi has set several of her previous novels. It's also nice to read references to past characters who pop up occasionally through the story. However, there is no need to have read all of Heidi's earlier books first, as this works well as a standalone.
In A Taste of Home, the story is set on a fruit farm, and the inner workings of the farm are also interesting to learn about. However, the desire to eat lots of fruit and sweet treats is also very overwhelming, so be warned.
A Taste of Home is hug of a book. There's a budding romance on the cards; the loveable character of Bill, who you want to reach in and hug; and there's also the element of learning to find a way through life when it's been turned on its head. It's a feel good, easy read novel, which is the root of Heidi's success. A Taste of Home has everything you can want from a Heidi Swain novel, and I highly recommend it.
This book is totally amazing. It draws you in from the beginning. With many a twist in the tale. Definitely a book to sit and read on a beach or by a roaring fire. Tale of loss and of love and long lost families. Tale of two families becoming one over many miles. Heidi Swain is a brilliant author who inspires your imagination and keeps you thinking till the end. Definitely go and find her other books
Journey to the Fenlands with Fliss to find her family and establish her roots.
Another cracking read by Heidi Swain. Revisit Wynbridge and all the delightful characters that make it truly special while following Fliss discovering her family home.
The characters are warm and relatable. The story is beautiful and easy to.follow.
I read this almost in one sitting, enjoying being transported into the fold and admiring the beautiful setting.
A real feel good read that leaves you smiling, craving delicious deserts and eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series.
We are once again in Wynbridge following Fliss as she turns Fenview's fortunes around. Having left Puglia after her mother's death she meets her grandfather and the farm where her mother grew up.
There are some lovely new characters like Eliot, Bec and their mother Louise. But not so lovely Anthony.
We also bump into characters from Heidi's other Wynbridge books. This can be read as a stand alone.
Live Heidi's books and this one is definitely up there with all the others.
Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster uk for the ARC
I am a huge fan of Heidi Swain's, so I truly could not wait to begin this book.
Set in Italy, the setting for this book is quite simply stunning, then we meet Fliss - our main protagonist in this story. Fliss is travelling to Wynbridge for a meeting with her Grandfather, who until very recently she had no idea actually existed.
The storyline was so beautifully constructed and detailed, you could imagine walking through the fruit farms yourself and picking the berries as you went!.
The characters were wonderful as they always are in Heidi's books, and I also really loved the way in which some characters from previous books made an appearance throughout, despite this book being a standalone novel, it was really lovely to read.
The romance that began to blossom between Fliss and Eliot was dreamy, and the friendship with Becs was wonderful and heart warming.
I could honestly talk about this book all day long!. The storyline was perfection, the characters were well developed and realistic and the setting was like a dream. I adored this story!.
I absolutely love Heidi Swain's books and I was delighted to receive an early preview copy of this book from Netgalley and the Publisher.
This book starts in Italy, and then the main protagonist Fliss travels to Wynbridge to meet her Grandfather who she didn't know existed.
Both locations have Fruit Farms as the settings, and I could imagine picking the juicy berries under the warm Sun. It was the perfect read on a gloomy wet day, to escape to somewhere sunny.
This is a standalone novel, but it is set in Wynbridge, the location for some of Heidi's previous books. It features some of the characters from Skylark Farm, and the Cherry Tree Cafe. I love catching up with previous characters.
I really liked the new characters in this book. It would be wonderful to catch up with Fliss and Eliot and also Becs to see how they are.
This book definitely made me hungry, like some of Heidi's previous books there were plenty of food references. I would love to try some of the recipes, especially Nonna's secret recipe Cherry tart.
I really enjoyed reading this book, it is such a gorgeous and heartwarming read. It was lovely to see Fliss getting to know her family history, she is such a nice and positive character.
I look forward to reading Heidi's new book which is out in the Autumn.
Heidi Swain never fails to help me to escape going back to Wynbridge is like travelling home. This Story is based on Fliss Brown to travels to Wynbridge after her mothers passes away. Fliss doesn't know that he grandfather owns a farm, this story was a breath of fresh air it literally felt like I was on the farm with Flies. Meeting up with the rest of the Wynbridge gang was also lovely to catch up on what they have been up to0. I can't wait to head back in the future. Thank you Heidi and Netgalley for letting me read this ARC.
Another fantastic book from this fabulous author. Yet again I find myself thinking about characters days after I’ve finished reading the book. The perfect escape from real life.
Heidi swain takes us back to wynbridge with a new story and what a story it is!
Fliss comes to wynbridge on a journey from Italy to find her family
She didn’t know existed until her mums death and a letter revealed her family

So easy to read your pulled into the plot I just loved the whole book writting is a lovely style just fab I can not recommend enough
This was such a beautiful story set in the Fenland Countryside. Heidi Swains wonderfully descriptive writing whisked me away to the gorgeous Fenview farm and charming town of Wynbridge. As with all of Heidi's stories, this is a Romance novel but for me the Romantic aspect takes a back seat to the true meaning of the story. This book is about Family and the importance of memories and legacies. Despite the fact that Fliss has only just met her Grandad, it's clear that her fierce loyalty to family extends to him. Fliss has an incredibly fierce and indomitable will coupled together with a strong determination which leads her to fight for what she believes in and to stand in her Grandads corner when he needs her the most.
Felicity (fliss) brown grew up in Italy on a fruit farm. The daughter of a single mother who could never stay put for any given amount of time, a wonderer who loved to travel.
Fliss always knew her Italian family weren’t her real family, she thought her and her mother were all the family she had - that is until her mother dies and leaves Fliss a letter telling her that she ran away as a teenager when she discovered she was pregnant and that Fliss has a grandfather back in England who also has a farm in the village of wynmouth.
Keen to discover her roots Fliss heads to England to meet her grandfather, unfortunatly she discovers he is recovering from an operation, being cared for by the motorbike loving, good looking carer Elliot and so at first Fliss doesn’t reveal who she is.
I absolutely loved this novel, it’s all you expect from a Heidi Swain book.
It features characters from previous Wynbridge stories and is beautifully told.
In fact I I was sad when it ended.
I loved how Fliss’s story developed and how she finds herself fitting into Fenview farm and being accepted in village life and her blossoming relationship with Elliot fills the romance part of this book.
Can’t recommend this book highly enough.
I loved every page of this. It does everything I want from a Heidi Swain novel. Awesome characters, a gorgeous romantic hero and brilliant setting. I loved being back in Wynbridge and seeing all the characters from previous books again.
I love how Heidi’s books feature so much food. I was the kind of child who got excited when reading Enid Blyton when a midnight feast was held at one of the boarding schools or Anne brought out a picnic for the famous five and Heidi’s books tap into that bit of my brain even if I end up starving hungry after each reading session
I loved seeing Wynbridge through Fliss’s eyes as she arrives into the little community we’ve all come to love dearly and I loved seeing that grandfather / granddaughter relationship develop over the course of the book.
I loved the tension between Fliss and Eliot and seeing their friendship develop over the course of the book.
A brilliant read which I flew through and loved entirely.
After the death of her mother Fliss learns that she has family in England. She travels from Italy to visit the place where her mother grew up and to meet her grandfather.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I didn’t realise that it was part of a series.
A light hearted novel with a touch of romance.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster UK for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
I've read novels by Heidi Swain before and I've enjoyed them, this one was no exception. It was fun, light and fluffy and easy to read. Would recommend!
Thanks to Simon & Schuster UK, via NetGalley, for the early copy to review.
About the book.
Fliss Brown has grown up living with her mother on the Rossi family’s Italian fruit farm. But when her mother dies, Fliss finds out she has a family of her own, and heads back to England with Nonna Rossi’s recipe for cherry and almond tart and a piece of advice: connect with your family before it is too late…
Fliss discovers that her estranged grandfather owns a fruit farm himself, on the outskirts of Wynbridge, and she arrives to find a farm that has fallen into disrepair. Using her knowledge gleaned from working on the Rossi farm and her desire to find out more about her past, Fliss rolls her sleeves up and gets stuck in. But what will she discover, and can she resurrect the farm’s glory days and find a taste of home…?
Absolutely adore being back in Wynbridge, it’s like an old friend you have not seen for a while, but love it when you do.
As always with Heidi’s books, it is filled with fantastic descriptions of the area and I could imagine standing in the farm, eating strawberries and falling in love with all the local produce Wynbridge seems to offer.
This book is delightful, summery, fresh and makes you feel so good that you will adore it and fall in love with it straight from the beginning.
Thank you Heidi, I loved it!
5 out of 5.
