I enjoyed this but it didn't have all my attention. I have definitely enjoyed her recent works more.
You and Me on Vacation was a great intro to Henry's writing. I can tell I'm going to enjoy catching up on her books as I especially like how her characters bounce off the page. They're incredibly well developed and not too clichéd making them a lot more believable and likeable than some romance MCs I've encountered. Poppy and Alex both had their flaws and it was satisfying for them to not be magically fixed at the end of the story
emily henry is the best thing since sliced bread and she continues to prove it with each book. she has mastered the art of character development, creating the most prolific, layered, larger-than-life individuals that perhaps genetics should take note and start producing such specimens in the real world. needless to say, i loved you and me on vacation so much.
This novel is a heartwarming exploration of love and friendship, chronicling the journey of Poppy and Alex from their initial animosity to a deep, enduring bond. Through a series of annual vacations, the pair navigates personal growth, fears, and pivotal life moments. The story’s charm lies in its blend of humor and emotional depth, capturing the essence of how shared experiences can shape relationships. As Poppy and Alex face a defining trip, readers are drawn into a narrative filled with anticipation and sentiment. It's a poignant reminder of how the people we least expect can become the most important in our lives.
I enjoyed this book, another great read from Emily Henry.
A lighthearted read, perfect as a holiday book - I enjoyed the stories of each vacation year on year.
Great fun for holiday reading-I loved this!Really good dialogue and fun scenarios,so if you’re looking for something clever but lighthearted to read over the summer, then this one is for you.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in return for an honest review which reflects my own opinion.
Poppy and Alex met at a party 12 years ago and have spent every summer together since. Poppy lives in New York, Alex lives in Ohio - where Polly never wants to live again.
After a few years of not speaking, Poppy reaches out and tries to get their friendship back on track with one of their old-style cheap vacations but it seems like history has made everything too difficult.
This is the first fiction book I've listened to as an audiobook as an adult.
I enjoyed this, I think I'd have preferred it in print/ebook - when characters pop up at the end, I couldn't remember the history but couldn't flick back to find out what had happened.
I loved the parallel between the first and last chapter with Poppy walking into a bar. The book was engrossing and the time hopping between past vacations and present day gave plenty of hints of the outcomes.
It turns out I'd got an advanced ebook copy of the book years ago from NetGalley and hadn't read/reviewed it in time and lost the copy. So a belated thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, with apologies for the delay!
I have read a few Emily Henry books previously but this has got to be one of my favourites.
I didn't love the book, I felt a little disconnected from the characters and I thought there was room to reach a lot more depth with their stories than it did.
Nonetheless, I absolutely flew through this book. It is such a fun read. The type of book you can take with you on holiday and read by the pool. I loved reading about all the trips they both took together, made me desperate for another holiday.
If you are a fan of rom coms or liked any of Emily Henry's previous work then I would definitely recommend this one!
Really sweet romance, read it on holiday and it was just the perfect vibes. My biggest issue with books with 2 timelines told at once is that I often find myself more interested in one over the other which did happen with this book
You and Me on Vacation
by Emily Henry
A beautifully written book. Poppy and Alex first meet in University and they hate each other but the next year the are forced travel home together and decide they really can be friends. They decide that once a year they reconnect and go on their summer holidays together. Great journey of friends to lovers if a bit drawn out a tad to get than was necessary but the quirky characters and Poppy’s family and humour and a few other emotions as well . It’s not all plain sailing on the 11 year friendship but a great warm heart feel good read. This genre is definitely Emily Henry’s forte. A book that doesn’t disappoint. 4.5/5
This was the first of Emily Henry’s books that I’ve read and I now completely understand the hype!
You and Me on Vacation was the perfect slow burn romance, with believable emotions and characters.
Poppy and Alex were so cute and I routed for them to cross from friends to lovers.
I also really enjoyed visiting the different countries with Poppy and Alex and found the shift in timeline great for understanding their friendship.
I’ll definitely be reading Emily Henry’s backlist!
First of all a big thank you to the author, Netgalley and the publishers for sending me a copy of this book to read and review.
This was my second Emily Henry book and I loved it just as much as the first. This had me feeling so many emotions. I couldn’t put this down. I can’t wait to read my next one. I wish I’d known how lucky I was to get my hands on this ARC and had prioritised it because every time I’ve read one of her books I’ve just wanted to pick it back up and start it all over again.
I absolutely loved Poppy and Alex, you spend the whole book just rooting for them. This and Happy Place have easily made it into my favourite books and I already can’t wait to reread!
I decided to give this 3.5 stars. It was a cute friends to lover romance but didn’t feel particularly special to me.
This book was reviewed as part of my 'What I Read in September' video on YouTube, which can be found here https://youtu.be/AzV15nLK_Eo
Just wonderful! The way the two MC’s meet as friends and continue their friendships over the years through various vacations was a unique and captivating storyline. Friends to lovers at its best!
Whilst I’m not a higher romance fan, I found this a rather enjoyable and entertaining read! I zoomed through it and it kept my attention the whole way.
Wow, I just love this novel! I am on my second read through at the moment and it is giving all the feels. I love Emily Henry's books and each year I look forward to their release dates. I really enjoy Poppy as a main character, someone who is very active in pursuing what she wants but can still keep a fun and 'bubbly' energy about her.
I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
This fun summer romance novel follows two best friends, Poppy and Alex, who have known each other since they started university. Every summer, they take a holiday together. But for some reason unknown to the reader, they haven't seen each other for a few years until Poppy invites Alex on one last vacation to try and save their friendship. The book is told in alternating chapters between the present day and past trips.
I'll start of by saying that this book was a lot of fun. Both Poppy and Alex are very likable characters and it was fun reading about all the places they have travelled to. This is a classic summer romance novel in my opinion, nothing ground-breaking, but compelling enough to suck you in for a relaxing read. The characters are both obviously pinning after one another which makes a refreshing change and if I had one complaint it would be that it's maybe a bit too long and slow to start. All the juicy stuff happens right at the end. But overall a fun and pleasant romance read that I would definitely recommend.
"You and Me on Vacation" by Emily Henry is a heartwarming and utterly relatable tale of friendship and romance. Henry's writing shines as she takes readers on a journey through the ups and downs of a lifelong friendship between Poppy and Alex. The clever use of alternating timelines, set against the backdrop of dreamy vacation destinations, adds depth to the story.
The characters are beautifully nuanced, making it easy to connect with their joys and struggles. The gradual build-up of romantic tension is both endearing and satisfying. Henry's storytelling is a delightful mix of humor and poignancy, and she delves into themes of self-discovery and the importance of taking chances.
This book is the perfect summer read, filled with laughter, nostalgia, and a reminder that sometimes the best moments happen when you least expect them. "You and Me on Vacation" is a charming and refreshing exploration of the complexities of love and friendship, making it a must-read for anyone in search of a sweet, witty, and touching novel.
