This was actually a sweet summer read, perfect for lovers of slow burn romances and traveling. I had some issues with the characters, but mostly cause I'm impatient and cannot do slow burn. Not in books, not in life. Give me all or go home. So yeah, I wanted to slap Poppy and Alex quite a few times, but other than that, it's was a fun book to read. Those travels, oof, they made my mouth water. I've been in travel business for a couple of years and had my share of traveling. And the very best of every trip I made were the people I met along the way.

Thanks to NG and the publisher for providing me an ARC of this title in exchange of my honest opinion.

This was so cute and so so cheesy but I enjoyed it! I liked how Henry incorporated many tropes, such as best friends-to-lovers, “there was only one bed” and the opposites attract tropes. They worked well together and made the story so much more fun.

People We Meet on Vacation has different vibes from Beach Read. This novel was more of a beach read with lighthearted fun and themes centering around self-love and finding what makes you happy. I can safely say that Henry has a great writing range because this novel was so different from Beach Read.

The best thing about this novel was how loveable and complex Alex and Poppy were. Henry has a way of writing genuine characters who you can’t help but root for. Their banter with each had me chuckling and I enjoyed their dynamic. The novel had me tense with emotion, waiting for Alex and Poppy to finally get together and confess their feelings for each other.

The flashbacks were a fun way to inform the reader about Alex and Poppy’s backstories with each other. However, it did get repetitive. The large frequency of the flashbacks took me out of the "Present" timeline as it broke some of the narrative’s flow.

Overall, I really enjoyed this! I recommend it if you’re looking for a fun read with a lot of heart and soul.

This was such a funny and refreshing book. It made me smile and it made me laugh out loud. I hadn’t read this author before but, I was intrigued as to what it was like. It was brilliant and I raced through it very quickly. The descriptions in this book were vivid and I could picture them in my mind’s eye. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

I loved, loved, loved this.

I laughed, I cried, I fell in love with everything about this book. I visited every place in my mind and was taken on an unforgettable vacation.

It was a rollercoaster of ups and downs a smorgasbord of drama with a touch of tension thrown in. The perfect recipe for the perfect summer read.

I didn’t want this joyous ride to stop.

Highly recommended 5 stars from me

I'm incredibly thankful that I received a review copy from Penguin UK to read this novel early. Unfortunately I didn't end up loving it as much as EMILY HENRY's previous novels, including her first foray into vanilla romance BEACH READ.

YOU AND ME ON VACATION is about Poppy and Alex, two best friends who we are led to believe have nothing in important in common. This is important because this explains why they are such good friends and why they meet up every summer to travel. They've been travelling every summer for almost ten years when something happens that shakes up their friendship. They decide to go on one last trip to see if they can salvage what they're about to loose.

It's an easy, light read. Perfect for a holiday. The premise doesn't work for me, but that doesn't mean Henry has written a bad book. Her storytelling techniques are flawless and even if I didn't feel for the characters I did chuckle when they made jokes.

Other than that, the story falls a bit flat in my view. It's no great love story, and it's not memorable. I was expecting gorgeous travel destinations, but unfortunately for most trips they stick to the US.

All in all not the best read by her, but still an enjoyable rom-com for light summer reading.

If you haven't read the blurb, you're not sure quite what to expect, and it's not until you are a few pages in that you realise it's a friend-to-lover love story set in spectacular destinations with more than a few conflicts along the way.

Poppy has a great job as a travel journalist, but she feels that despite the good life, something is missing. Alex is her person until two years ago when something happens, and they don't speak. Poppy knows what she wants but does Alex want it to? They take one last vacation to find out. This story moves between the past and the present, visiting some great holiday spots as Poppy and Alex's friendship develops. There is a good cast of characters, and friendship is the resonating theme. Poppy and Alex are likeable, and the story ends satisfyingly.

The dialogue is witty, the dynamic between Poppy and Alex is believable, and the well-described destinations make this a perfect summer read.

I received a copy of this book from Penguin UK via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

One sentence review: An enjoyable summer romance about best friends who have a falling out as they deal with relationship awkwardness.

Overall I liked this one. The heroine, Poppy, has a really interesting occupation and I loved the friendships in the story. If I had an issue with this one it is that at times Poppy's problems seemed very trivial, maybe because I didn't really relate to them?

I suspect however that for most people this book will be a great romance for summer reading!

This book has already been published in the US as The People You Meet on Vacation. I received the British version from NetGalley, hence, the different title and publishing date and cover.

In the beginning, the book seemed very confusing and disjointed. But, it had excellent reviews and I had committed myself so plodded on.

The confusion ended…..the premise was actually quite simple. Alex and Poppy are good friends of the opposite sex. Every year they go on vacation, a place of their mutual choosing and the relationship remains entirely platonic. Except, then it doesn't.

The storyline flips back and forth, from this year's trip back to one of the previous trips. Some of the experiences were good, some were forgettable. There were some funny moments. Poppy, especially, has an “off the wall” sense of humour, something I appreciate. Alex is a bit of a stick in the mud. But, together, they have a good time. Naturally, there are a few bumps in the road.

It's easy to see where the storyline is going. In fact, Poppy keeps talking about it.

This has been a very popular book and has received many great reviews. I'm going to have to go against the trend. It was entertaining at times and a light read. But, it was too drawn out. It just seemed to keep going and going and going. When I was at 50-60% I just wanted to get it over with.

To me, it was just an ok read.

Another engrossing rom-com read from Emily Henry. Poppy and Alex’s friendship spans 12 years of shared holidays, and the story alternates between the final holiday which changes their relationship and the previous 12 years.

Poppy’s job as a New York based travel writer provides an interesting backdrop, and the varied settings made this a great summer read. While Henry was clearly depicting a very intense relationship, this felt over the top or a bit forced in places, however overall this was a fun, enjoyable read.

What an amazing heartwarming story about Poppy and Alex and their travels all over the world for their Summer Trip. I loved the descriptions of the places they visit and it shows the author has done their research on the areas and a few are on my Bucket list.

Poppy is such a wonderful and vibrant person and it seems hard to dislike her because you just want to hug her and tell her everything is alright. Alex would rather I don't do that but I could see myself getting on with both of them.

I loved this and flew through it and thought it was an amazing Summer read.

I loved this book on so many levels.
Poppy and Alex are made for each other, but they really don't get it. Well, not straight away.
Despite being best friends for so many years, and taking their special yearly vacations together, things simmer, but never bubble over.
Until one trip.
A trip that changes so much.
I have to say I felt for Poppy, so much through the whole book, holding onto her unrequited love, as well as trauma from the past.
I honestly wanted to shake Alex. I mean, come on, why didn't you give any indications any earlier, as to how you felt?!
Still, I really enjoyed the read, and would recommend it for a great summer sizzler!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin for an ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

Emily Henry does it again. I was so excited to read this once I saw the premise online.

I read Beach Read recently and absolutely devoured it and I can say I did the same for this.

I loved the different timelines I think it really gave us an opening into how Alex and Poppy's relationship developed over the years which I really enjoyed and felt was super important to the end of the book.

Emily Henry is definitely now an instant buy author for me!

For someone who desperately needs a break from working and moving apartments and wedding planning, People We Meet on Vacation is going to have to suffice for now!

I loved it! I liked it way more than Beach Read (which I think I need to re-read). I loved Alex and Poppy in PWMOV; both are heavily flawed characters with genuine feelings. It’s pretty obvious that they both are in love with each other and it’s funny to see how each trip takes them closer or further away from each other. Poppy has my absolute dream job- who would want to be a travel writer for high end luxury vacations?

I really enjoyed the way the book was structure; half the book was the present day and half was all the previous summer vacations they took. I’ve never been to Palm Springs and even after everything that can go wrong did, I would still really like to visit. I’ve seen it a lot on House Hunters and the 60s style is just so interesting!

For 12 years Poppy and Alex have been on summer vacation. This summer Poppy invites Alex on one last trip… a trip that will determine the rest of their lives.

Romance isn’t my go to genre but I’m so glad I was approved for an arc of this book. The chemistry between Poppy and Alex kept me hooked from start to finish!

The book flips between all the years of precious vacations and the present summer. It’s so easy to read and is a real feel good book.

If you’re looking for a romance, best friends to lovers troop.. then this one is for you!

This book is charming, sweet and such an amazing friends to lovers story.

I loved how "normal" these characters are. Poppy and Alex and complete opposites, yet they are best friends. Every year, no matter what, they take a trip together. That is until one holiday, leaving them not talking for two years. Trying to get their friendship back on track, Poppy contacts Alex to arrange a trip "like old times"

This book takes us back to their previous holidays and how they got to where they are now. I loved the flashbacks and even though these two weren't romantically involved, their love for each other was crystal clear. Poppy is so funny, I laughed out loud at some of her actions and comments. Alex is so sweet, I just want to wrap him up. He is the perfect boy next door.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it.

Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Penguin for providing me with this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

An enjoyable read but did not hold my attention for the whole length of the book. I found my attention waning towards the end. The timeline skipping about is easy to follow and provides the needed background of the story. I think the inevitability of the ending was evident throughout. Nice summer read.

Thank you Netgalley

For twelve years Poppy and Alex have been close friends and every summer they holiday together. On their trip two years ago something goes wrong and they haven’t spoken since. This summer they try to rekindle their friendship with one more summer vacation.

This was my first Emily Henry read and all I can say is I don’t understand how! This was SO GOOD. I loved both Poppy and Alex from the get go. I thoroughly enjoyed following their friendship, and watching them grow and bond on each summer trip they took together. Switching between past summer vacays and ‘this summer’ was so much fun, slowly getting to know both characters and understanding the current situation. It takes a while for the romance to ensue, I personally loved this because we got to spend more time seeing who the characters are. The romance was everything for me, it hit me right in the feels and was so relatable. My partner is my best friend and so much of what Poppy and Alex learned and felt I understand.
Loved Henry’s writing style, I’ll definitely checking out her backlist and picking up whatever she writes in the future!!!

Whether you’re a regular romance reader or a newbie like me, I highly recommend this!!!

“I find myself smiling in the dark, feeling so I believably lucky to sleep every night beside my favourite person in the world.”

“But most of all, it’s about the ones who stay, who become home.”

So, I lost the whole day today as I just had to read this book and find out what happens! Be warned before you start to read that you might find yourself sucked in too...

Poppy and Alex have been friends for years and have had some crazy adventures together on their annual vacations. They clearly adore each other, yet there is a dark secret relating to their last holiday together in Croatia, two years earlier which has damaged their relationship. I had to know what had happened.

These two characters could not be more different from each other. From their young lives, to their current status, their experiences and ambitions are mutually exclusive. Alex is quirky, uptight and stifled by his inhibitions whilst Poppy is outgoing, wild and carefree.

The book is set in the current day, which finds Poppy living in New York with a dream job as a travel writer for a magazine. Alex has his dream job, too, as a teacher in their old high school. Yet, both are lonely and in love with each other but unable to vocalise this - in fact, they don't really even recognise this in themselves for most of the novel. The current timeline is juxtaposed with memories of previous holidays to help flesh out their history and characterisation.

Poppy proposes one last holiday together to try and remedy the gulf which has grown between them since Croatia. Palm Springs in the off season on a budget is a holiday I don't think anyone would willingly choose. But the dodgy rental car and apartment are fabulously constructed to make this such a funny holiday. Poppy's perfectly planned break goes horribly wrong.

I loved getting to know these characters who are so beautifully constructed. Their relationship is perfectly plotted and the slow burn of the big revelation is delicious. However, this is a book that offers so much more. Both Alex and Poppy have skeletons to address and their relationship is fated without some honest soul searching.

This made me laugh and made me cry! I felt like I holidayed with them and rooted all the way to the end that they would overcome their individual difficulties.

I thought that this book had an interesting premise with two friends who have a rocky start to their friendship. However they do become friends and end up spending annual holidays together in varied locations. Things go a bit pear shaped one year and then they don't speak for two years.
Poppy is keen to get in touch with Alex again and win his friendship back. But it gets a bit more intense than that. So what does the future hold for Poppy and Alex. They have such varied lives. Alex teaches and wants to get married and settle down with a family. While Poppy loves travel and being free. Would a romantic relationship be an option at all.
