Oh how I loved this! Henry writes her characters with pin-point precision, on-point banter and off the scale romantic tension. I loved travelling with Poppy and Alex and was rooting for them all the way.
Really well written love story.
From the start I liked both characters. Poppy reflects on her and Alex's time together and slowly begins to realise her feelings for him, as she does so I fell in love with him too.
Usually I keep this genre for holidays and pool side reading, but I'm so glad I chose it. The writing style gently absorbs you into the book and cocoons you in their love. You feel every bit of happiness, sadness, longing, love and heartache that Poppy feels.
An exquisite love story.
Alex and Poppy meet at a party and dislike each other immediately, a year later they meet again unintentionally when they both agree to share a car ride home, by the end of the journey they have become firm friends and the beginning of a wonderful friendship starts. Over the following 10 years they're friendship continues to grow as they communicate via phone and emails as well as meeting once a year for their annual vacation.
Poppy's character is hilarious, I found myself laughing out loud more than once. The conversations between Alex and Poppy are interesting quirky and funny, I was smiling from ear to ear for most of the book. As the years pass both characters find themselves feeling more than friendship for the other, they struggle to admit to themselves and each other that what they both want is more than friendship.
Emily's writing was so beautiful my heart truly ached for Poppy and Alex , I was literally turning the pages and reading as fast as I could praying for an ending that Poppy Alex and myself wanted .
I want to read this book all over again, I wouldn't be surprised if this book became a best seller this summer.
Good Luck with your book launch Emily this book is beautiful love story, I look forward to reading more of your work.
Alex and Poppy have been best friends for 12 years. They make a pact to spend the summer together every year, however two years ago that pact came to a stop. Now Poppy has decided she needs to save the friendship, so in a last ditch effort, she contacts Alex out of the blue and asks him to spend the summer with her for old times sake.
I can’t put into words how much I loved this book…. It spoke to me.
This was such a wonderful read. I want to be Poppy’s best friend. It made me laugh out loud and have a tear too. Totally recommend for a light hearted friends to lovers romance read. Thanks for Netgally and Penguin for bringing this joyful book into my life.
Such an incredible book!
Amazing, quirky characters and amusing situations, I soon became completely absorbed into the lives and friendship.
It’s an interesting storyline that I found so endearing and hilarious in equal measures.
Last year I read 'beach read' by Emily Henry and liked it very much. So I can't tell you how happy I was when I was approved for an eArc of her new book 'you and me on vacation'. It's release is in May and I'm so excited to have been able to read it already and can't wait to put the physical copy on my shelf.
It's about two friends, Alex and Poppy, who have been friends for ages. It's never been more between them, but well....we all know how it ends, don't we?
They're both just such great characters with lovely quirks and I've had my fingers crossed for them from the start. The dynamic between them is so great even as friends.
The whole story comes off without a lot of (unnecessary) drama, which I thought was really great. Instead, Poppy and Alex have a lot of fear, doubt and longing that they have to learn to deal with.
You keep switching between their past holidays and this year's as you read. I liked getting to know the characters better this way and their stories were often just hilarious
I really really enjoyed this book!
When I saw it on Netgalley I was really excited to try it out as I loved Beach Read last year. At first I thought it was a bit too similar to Beach Read but as it went on I realised it was even better than the previous book. Of course with any romcom you know from the start that the two main characters will get together in the end; but the clever way in which the layers of Alex & Poppy’s past are slowly revealed through their past holidays and the slow burn of the romance gripped me.
It actually reminded me of reading Sally Rooney’s Normal People, where I just wanted to scream at the book “get it together already!!!!”.
I would definitely recommend this book for fans of a good romance novel, it would make an excellent holiday read if we are ever able to leave these shores again!!

You and me on vacation - Emily Henry
Thank you, thank you, thank you to NetGalley and penguin random house for this e-arc.
I read Beach Read last year and loved it so I had a feeling I would enjoy this and oh my days - I ADORED it!
Emily has written an amazing friends to lovers trope in a unique style looking back at each summer trip Polly and Alex have taken. I really liked these two and their story. There were also some real laugh out loud moments.
If you like a cosy rom com - this will not disappoint!

Stunning. Hilarious. Inspiring.
12 summers with Poppy and Alex. Travelling the world, and battling with their emotions - flirting between friends and lovers.
This is a real and honest book that is both hilarious and relatable. It shows the ups and downs of romance and friendships as well as self development. Emily Henry superbly highlights the challenges of dating in the modern world and how young adults find themselves lost in the daily grind.
This was an easy, original read that combined all my favourite things, travel, romance and comedy. It’s own of those books that I will read over and over again just to make me smile.
Thank you to Netgalley, Emily Henry and Penguin General UK for this ARC in return for my honest review. Emily has done it again, another cracking read that will make you laugh and cry. I really enjoyed this one, filled with moments of heartfelt humour and genuine sadness. I'd definitely recommend.
This was such a feel good spanning generations romance. Such a wild albeit frustrating ride 😅
I really enjoyed this book tho. Was my first Netgalley book in like 6 months and it started off great.
I loved Beach Read but this one didn’t quite have the same impact. It was an easy book to get through but I never fully invested in the relationship between Poppy and Alex. I also felt like that there was a bit too much back and forth with the timeline for me personally.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
if nobody got me, i know the best friends to lovers trope got me. this book proves that i am right about this once again.
i had such high expectations going into this, seeing that emily henry wrote one of my absolute favorite couples from one of my absolute favorite romance books, beach read. and then i found out that this one is best friends to lovers; i was over the moon to be able to read it. i’m happy to say it did not disappoint.
this was just a delight to read from start to finish. i loved poppy and alex’s friendship from the first chapter and grew to root for them to be together as i continued reading. poppy and alex bring the best out of each other and it was nothing short of heartwarming watching them both grow as people and finally allow themselves what they’ve been denying themselves for more than a decade; the happiness and comfort they get just from each other’s presence and being with each other. their easy dynamic together as friends as well as the longing for each other that they keep suppressing are the reasons why i love this trope so much.
that being said, there were some moments when i just couldn’t help but roll my eyes, especially when it came to poppy’s struggles. i could understand her to some extent and see how her problems might be relatable to some, but instead of relating to her, she just seemed privileged to me. don’t get me wrong, i still enjoyed her character for the most part mostly because of her humor and again, her relationship with alex.
all in all, you and me on vacation gave me almost everything i wanted from it; the perfect escapist read that filled me with giddiness and wanderlust.
e-arc kindly sent to me by netgalley and penguin uk in exchange for an honest review.
Going on holidays with a close friend sounds really exciting.
During this book, one minute I was full of hope and feeling exhilarated, then I’m crying with despair.
I wondered if the author could have written the book from Alex’s point of view too, but I think she did a very good job of showing the reader Alex’s feelings and I wish I could have hugged him!
Excellent book!
Wow ! Emily Henry did it again, I loved this book the romance was great the personal growth of both hero and heroine was well done. just like Beach Read this book is full of a lot of heart and depth, it is much more than your typical romance!
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the e-arc!
This was such a fun read! I loved the way we alternate between past and present. This made the characters feel so real, and I just loved their well developed friendship. Their friendship reminds me a lot of one of my own friendships, I think this helped me connect to the book even more.
I really enjoyed the tension that was created throughout, especially since it was built over a decade. And even when it reached the climax of the book there was still so much more to be said, it wasn't just a 'happily ever after', because it doesn't work out that way in real life.
It's hard to say why this wasn't a full 5 stars, I think it could potentially be down to reading it on my phone honestly. It took away from the reading experience.
I wasn’t too sure when I started this book but I loved it. The characters are so believable, it is well written, funny and sad and I just had to read it all. Then I was sad that they story had ended!
A lovely rom-com that’s perfect for a beach read!
I enjoyed the flashbacks throughout the book to Poppy and Alex’s previous vacations and there were several laugh out loud moments. The cast of characters were great and well written. The novel made me wish we could go on holiday right now!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.
A poignant and heart-wrenching friends-to-lovers read. I loved 'Beach Read' by Emily Henry and was so excited to read another title by her.
As a fan of 'When Harry Met Sally', this book was right up my alley. Alex and Poppy's story was such a slow burn and it was interesting to see the dynamic of their relationship change over the span of 12 years. It was hard to believe the protagonists were able to suppress their feelings for so long despite their differences in personality, and as a reader I was rooting for them to get together already! However, the story allowed for reflection on the importance of doing the self-work and experiencing personal growth to be ready to welcome the relationship you want and deserve.
Thank you to Penguin UK and Netgalley for the arc and I can't wait for others to enjoy this book as much as I did!
