Done Gone
by Marcia Talley
Publishing Date: April 6,2021

This is a new author for me, but I found that this is the 18th book in a series she has written.
I am glad I was able to get my hands on a copy of this book!
This is a compelling mystery with intriguing characters. Action abounds from start to finish. The suspense is maintained through the unexpected conclusion.

Many thanks to the author / Canongate Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. I will recommend this to our mystery readers.

4star

Hannah Ives gets pulled into the mysterious disappearance of her neighbors when they fail to show for a regular potluck dinner. Aside from a propensity to find trouble, Hannah is a typical suburbanite and I enjoy the homely touches about her family that thread through these stories. An unexpected story from a known commodity, Done Gone was a fun read.

Thanks to Severn House for access to a digital arc via NetGalley.

I wasn't a fan of the previous book but i liked this one.
The plot is tightly knitted and fast paced, the characters are well thought and mystery is full of secretes, twists and turns, keeping me guessing.
It's recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Done Gone by Marcia Talley is the eighteenth in the Hannah Ives series. I’ve read a few of the others but the book reads as a standalone. Hannah becomes worried about her neighbors when they don’t show for a regular monthly get-together. Hannah’s worst fears are realized when it seems like Trish and Peter Young have suddenly vanished, leaving their belongings and their beloved cat behind. Hannah just can’t sit back and do nothing, even when the situation takes a dangerous turn.

My favorite things about this book are the character of Hannah and the relationship she has with her husband, Paul.Hannah is strong and intelligent, and I admire her persistence in helping her friends. She and Paul have a loving relationship. They support each other and don’t keep secrets. I enjoy the realistic, easy banter between the two of them which makes them seem like people I would like to be friends with.

I also like the fast pace of the book. It is action-packed and I quickly became very engaged in the story. A few things didn’t add up for me, such as Hannah telling several different people things that were top secret and potentially dangerous for one of the characters she was trying to protect. However, overall I really enjoyed this suspenseful book. I didn’t want to put it down until I knew all the details about what was going on with Trish and Peter. If there are further books in the series, I would definitely be interested in reading them.

I received this ebook from NetGalley through the courtesy of Severn House. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

Hannah finds herself pretty much out of her depth when she decides to find out what made her friends Trish and Peter disappear in a poof. No one has an explanation but then Trish calls her- and then the craziness begins. Trisb appears in heavy makeup and claims that Trish is not her name but before she can explain.....she's shot through the head. Luckily, she passed Hannah a flash drive first, but she's in a coma and,..where's Peter? This is set in Annapolis, Maryland and takes advantage of its proximity to Washington with a secret based in political matters. No spoilers from me. I'd not read earlier books in the series so this was a standalone for me but it was a good one. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC.

Hannah and her husband become worried when their good friends and neighbors have just disappeared. They didn't call anyone to let them know they were going somewhere .. they didn't ask anyone to take care of their cat .... breakfast dishes were left out ... the gardener was not notified .. no notes left. They just disappeared...

Hannah talked to police about a missing person report ... she checked with both her friends' employers .. no one knows anything.

It's only days later that Hannah's friend, Trish, calls her ... asks her to meet. While Hannah is thrilled to know that her friend seems to be okay, she's curious as to what has happened. Meeting Trish in a shopping center parking lot, Hannah almost didn't recognize her friend ... she's colored her hair, wearing bulky clothing, and dark glasses.

The first words out of Trish's mouth .... Trish is not really my name. A few moments later, a bullet enters the back of her head and exits through her forehead.

Keen to help Trish, Hannah's investigations lead her to a series of dark discoveries and secrets involving powerful political figures.

This is a compelling mystery with intriguing characters. Action abounds from start to finish. The suspense is maintained through the unexpected conclusion.

A Mysterious And Worrying Turn....
The latest Hannah Ives mystery and the eighteenth in the series. When friends and longtime neighbours, the Youngs, fail to appear for Hannah’s special Italian evening events begin to take a mysterious and worrying turn. Hannah, it seems, has no choice but to investigate. Enjoyable and engaging reading and a fitting addition to this long running series.
