Heidi Perks does a fantastic job of building suspense and keeping you guessing. I liked the style of having the story and the side story of the playground gossips. Being a school run mum (always on the outside looking in) I could really identify which the cliques that are present at the gates.
This book would be perfect for people who enjoy psychological thrillers with a lot of twists and turns, The Whispers is definitely worth reading. It’s a captivating story that kept me guessing right up to the end.
A good read, gripping and compelling. Interesting characters and quite a complex tale of secrets and lies. It's a slow burn but one that develops nicely.
This is a complex story of friendships and jealousy
There are plenty of twist and turns throughout.
I the characters, and they felt very realistic
A great book
I have read and enjoyed Heidi's previous books so I as excited to see what this one had in store for me.
It goes without saying that this one is a slow burn that delves into the complexities of female friendships and all it entails. Heidi Perks shows us the good, the bad and the downright ugly when is comes to friendships. I would describe this more as psychological suspense than thriller but I enjoyed it none the less.
I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
When Grace Goodwin leaves Australia and returns to her childhood home, Clearwater near Weymouth with her daughter Matilda, she is looking forward to reconnecting with her childhood best friend Anna
The two were inseparable growing up, until Grace moved to Australia with her parents.
But now she's back and Anna has moved on with new best friends and it soon becomes apparent that there isn’t room for another in their group.
Whilst Anna is happy to see her old friend Grace, and welcome her back she does not want to talk about their past Friendship.
But when Anna goes missing after a night out with Grace and her friends, she feels like she is the only one concerned about Anna.
Why are they not calling the police?
This is a very twisty thriller that will keep you gripped until the end.
I look forward to this author's next, as they certainly know how to keep you on the edge of your seat!
This just wasn't my cup of tea. The writing was repetitive and dragged a lot, and despite the 'twist' midway which reveals so much about the 'truth' who the characters, it didn't carry enough steam to power through the rest of the story, unfortunately. Somehow, the writing just felt distanced throughout, like we were there but just skimming the surface, when the POVs could've been so much deeper. The constant veering between 3rd and 1sp person also proved rather jarring to follow
I enjoyed this and was delightfully twisty and so kept me gripped throughout, trying to find out what happened.
I was given a free copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
This book follows four very different women all from the same neighbourhood whose lives all intersect. The whispers is based on mothers sacrifices for the sake of their children, and the difficult decisions women are faced with on a daily basis. A great read, thank you.
Thank you for providing me with an advance review copy of this book. Enjoyed reading, would recommend....
I have being removing toxic people and relationships in my own life recently, so I could identify with this book. Being friends with someone forever doesn't always mean you are friends. I am looking forward to the next book by this talented author.
A fast paced plot about a friendship between two old friends.... from the viewpoint of each friend.
Great twist!
The whispers by Heidi Parks.
Anna Robinson hasn’t been seen since she went on a night out with her four closest friends. She has a loving husband and a son she adores. Surely she wouldn’t abandon them and her perfect life. But what has happened to her?
I really enjoyed this book. Great story and characters. 4*.
Firstly, I would like to thank Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book.
This is an interesting book involving the complex close relationship between four mums when the sudden reappearance of a childhood friend of one of them disrupts this relationship. It is further complicated when one of them disappears.
There are lots of twists and turns and it well worth reading.
This was a really great read that grabbed me from the beginning. Although I didnt particularly like any of the characters I found them believable and interesting.
A gripping domestic thriller Anna hasn’t been seen since she went on a night out with her four closest friends.
But what has happened to her? At the school gates, it’s not long before the rumours start. Anna’s oldest friend Grace is beside herself with worry – desperately searching for answers and certain that someone is hiding the truth. With each day that passes, Anna’s life is under increasing threat. And as the pressure mounts, it won’t be long before something cracks…
Hidden secrets that threaten to come to the surface, unspoken rivalries, childhood and adult misunderstandings, all set against a cosy domestic background of school runs and friendships. Entertaining, a fab holiday read
This was a complicated and fascinating story. about how peoples feelings can be misinterpreted and lead to tragedy. Some really good characters and a realistic storyline. Another .great book from Heidi Perks
Interesting book but not as good as I expected. It's a bit slow in some areas and the friendship between the women is not always believable and is repetitive. 3* rating.
A great read. Politics at the school gate. An old school friend returned but why the chilly reception. Anna goes missing baffling everyone. She was so happy wasn't she. New resident Grace is desperate to find her old friend. A story of secrets, behind closed doors and friendships. a really good storyline with great twists.
I found the story line gripping and characters so well brought to life on the pages. The author shows a real insight into. complex relationships. Great thriller and cliff hanger ending. One of her best books.
