This was a fun read for me! I really enjoyed it, and thought it was pretty lighthearted and enjoyable. I love a vacation story or honeymoon story, and this one was no exception!
I really wanted to love this book, but I just couldn't connect with Annie for some reason. I loved the whole jilted bride who goes on her honeymoon with an old camp friend.
Annie and Alexander are getting married in 2 hours. When she arrives at the church, the wedding planner tells her that Alexander isn't coming. He didn't even bother to text or call Annie, but he texted the wedding planner to tell her that he wasn't coming instead. Annie is humiliated. She hides in their house, not eating, not showering, just sleeping and crying. She starts running when sleep eludes her. One day she runs past a boot camp gym. Annie decides to take one class. She loves it and signs up for 10 more. That's where she runs into her old camp friend Patrick. They haven't seen each other since they were 14. Annie can be her old self around Patrick, he listens to her when she speaks. It makes her realize that her fiancee never did.
Everyone wants Annie to go on her honeymoon to get out of London to clear her mind and have a vacation. It's a 3 week trip to Australia. Over drinks one night, she asks Patrick if he'd like to go with her as a friend, he agrees. On the honeymoon, Annie decides to say yes to everything. To stop being afraid and be brave.
When she was 14 years old, she was bullied and she decided to change herself to please others. Never pick a fight, never confront someone if they are wrong, etc. She's never stopped being that way. But now is the perfect time for change.
Patrick and Annie get closer while they are away and Annie realizes that she has a crush on him. He's becoming more open with her talking about his life, telling her personal things. Having his trust means the world to her.
When they kiss one night, everything changes for the better. But when they get back to London, Annie's mind starts going in circles. Is it too fast that they are a couple?
It drove me bananas that she's trying to change her ways, but the second her mom says something negative to her (which is always) Annie starts to rethink everything she already decided on.
When your groom doesn't show up, what else is there to do, but to take the honeymoon you were supposed to be on together? Loved this quirky but emotional story from Laura Jane Williams. Sometimes the British humor went over my head but I really enjoyed it.
Lovely feel good book to read. It was a joy to read. Lovely characters. Great plot. The book was charming. Very well written. I’d definitely recommend this book
I really enjoyed Our Stop and so knew I had to pick up her next book!
This was such a light, quick read. I stormed through it in 24 hours! No mean feat with a 5 year old demanding attention! It was a fun, bubbly read that was exactly what I needed to end my summer holiday!
I was a little unsure about the whole, taking a guy you've only just met, on your honeymoon after being jilted at the altar, but it did seem to work. I originally thought she would have been better off taking Adzo or even Freddie! They would have been equally helpful at helping her find her lost self. However Paddy's enthusiasm and zest for life was a necessary tonic and so it worked well.
I enjoyed the journey of self discovery and the strength of character that arose. The characters were all great fun (except her mother - I wanted to tell her off something rotten!) But her friends were great 👍 and I loved the relationship with her younger sister.
All in all this was a great, refreshing summer read. Perfect for when lounging in the sun and relaxing!
I took this away with me on a heatwaved trip to Cornwall, it was just the tonic I needed.
I raced through this in 24 hours. I loved the two main characters, I do feel I felt connected to their story as I met my current husband 4 weeks after a break up, we both dated in each at school but parted ways afterwards. I've been through the roller coaster of emoitions that these two went through so it clicked more for me.
It is a exactly what people need to escape in, the oohhs and ahhs of the storyline, the decription of the honeymoon away and finding their way when they got back.
I would recommend this for an easy beach read.
I was sadly disappointed with this one at the beginning, I really liked One Stop and was keen to give this one a read. But I found the characters seemed to all have cutesy nicknames a bit irritating and really struggled to get into it in the beginning. After about 25% in I started to enjoy it and found that I went through it rather quickly. This one is perfect for a summer beach read, it’s a quick and easy read.
Thank you to the publisher for an ebook copy for an honest review.
Another cracker by Laura Jane Williams - the story of what if, and grabbing opportunities from a bad situation. Having read her previous book, I was looking forward to this book, and was not disappointed. Thanks for the opportunity to read this.
I have read Laura Jayne Williams other books- the love square and our stop, and loved both of them. So I was so excited to be asked to read the lucky escape. Whilst I liked this book I didn’t love it as much as I though I would. I’m not sure what it was that didn’t make it a standout but I enjoyed reading none the less. I’d recommend it to others but I’d recommend her first two book first over this one.
I really liked the main two characters and enjoyed watching them fall for each other. I just felt like there was something missing, but can’t quite put my finger in what
The premise of this book was very promising to me, however I could not get into it. Ended up putting down about 40% through. I'll try to pick up again and update my review
A nice light read, it’s perfect escapism, quick and easy reading. It felt a bit predictable and even a bit cheesy at points but it made me laugh, so it’s a good 3.5 stars

This book was pretty good. It definitely was a light-hearted and quick read that I needed. I love the vacation/honeymoon setting I feel like that is always one way to reel me in. I liked seeing those complexities of losing a loved one and just seeing how that transforms you as a person. I thought the romance between Patrick and Annie was really cute and sweet and it definitely gave me all the feel-good bits I needed.
Annie gets left at the alter by her so-called Mr. Right, however the honeymoon is already paid for so after running into her old flame, Patrick, she spontaneously invites him along on an Australian vacation. Seems like a pretty standard rom-com synopsis right? Well, yes but it also is about Annie’s empowerment and finding herself after being dumped. The side characters were well written. Patrick was so sweet to Annie and sometimes it just takes a second to realize what is right in front of you. I do wish it had gotten to the honeymoon part sooner and we spent a little more time in the Australia setting, but it still gives plenty of summer beach read vibes. If you want an escape and something with more to it than just romance, pick up this book. Plus, just look at that cover! *Chef’s kiss*
Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books UK for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.
This is the perfect Summer beach read.
A beautiful story of 2 friends falling in love, without realising. A chance meeting after losing touch after college and wondering why it didn’t work out for them.
A warm witty read.
The Lucky Escape follows Annie, whose fiance calls off the wedding moments before she's set to walk down the altar. Weeks later, a chance encounter with her childhood friend, Patrick reminds her of who she used to be. So when she decides to take her honeymoon to Australia after all, she spontaneously asks Patrick to join her. Could this trip mend Annie's broken heart?
Firstly, I have to admit it did take me a while to get into this story. I did feel like putting it down a few times in the beginning, as I didn't feel a strong connection to Annie. But then Patrick entered the scene and the story definitely picked up once they headed to Australia. I know Annie is the main character, but these four stars belong to Patrick. He was a total cinnamon roll hero and I adored him and his unabashed honesty.
I loved seeing Australia through the eyes of someone else, as it's not often featured in romance novels. I also really liked Annie's character growth in the end. The book features some great side characters too, including Annie's friends and younger sister. Overall, I would recommend listening to the audiobook - just hang in there!
The Lucky Escape is perfect for fans of The Unhoneymooners and The Spanish Love Deception. Our main character, Annie, goes on her luxury honeymoon with an old friend after being jilted on her wedding day. The characters are sweet and charming, and a cast of secondary characters really adds to the story. The main characters have plenty of chemistry, and readers will be willing for them to have their perfect happy ending. The story builds well and is perfect for fans of the author’s other works, especially Our Stop and The Love Square.
2nd Chance Romance.
Annie gets jilted on her wedding day. After attending a class at the gym, she runs into an old drama camper, Patrick. They start hanging out and end up traveling to Australia for her honeymoon trip. Will she be able to mend her aching heart?
This is a fun, charming, little spicy romance. The honeymoon trip was incredible and a little unrealistic because it was way over the top. I loved Patrick and Annie’s relationship though. They were very vulnerable with their feelings and had great chemistry. I liked watching Annie figure out what was important to her.
I would recommend this book to readers that enjoy a good romance!
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
I’ve read quite a few books by the author and some are hit or miss as with other books from favourite ones. I enjoyed the story overall and the heroine was great fleshed out. Some scenes just made me roll my eyes unfortunately and some others felt too flat or unbelievable for my liking.
I know that many will enjoy it more than I did thou.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy
The Lucky Escape is a quick, easy read. Quite a predictable read but I enjoyed it overall. A typical romance/relationship goes bad kind of read. Not my favourite!
Trying to catch up with old reviews. I enjoyed this one overall. It didn’t blow me away but it was a fun read. There were a few comments on weight loss / restrictive eating which I found a bit alarming and unnecessary.
