I really enjoyed this light hearted novel. I found it a really easy read.
Many thanks to netgalley and Laura Jane Williams for the advanced copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for approve me for this arc!
Laura Jane Williams did it again! Amazing writing and plot! I loved every minute I spent reading this book. She is one of the most wonderful authors ever
This was a fun, simple and easy read. If you’re after an in-depth storyline, this isn’t for you, there aren’t any twists and turns! It had the emotion though and plenty of humour to help the story flow.
This book is the romance of the year for me! Loved it! I felt all the emotions as the story unfolded. I rooted for Patrick and Anna, hated Alexander (and was glad he was only given a small part of the story).. You could just feel the pull between Patrick and Anna, and couldn't wait to see when they would both realize and act upon their attraction.
I'm a sucker for jilted at the alter stories (love me some angst) - so I was pretty excited to pick this book up. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get into Annie and Patrick - I think part of that has to do with some dialogue being a bit clunky, and otherwise I just couldn't feel chemistry between them. I found the pacing/plot to be uneven and I found Annie's internal monologue to be monotonous.
This was surprisingly cute. I wanted to try another book by this author since I wasn't a big fan of her previous one.
I'm so happy that I did! The MC is relatable and that's always a plus!
An enjoyable read with a fun premise, and adorable side-characters. Annie, after being jilted, asks old friend Patrick to go on her honeymoon with her after a chance run in. to go on vacation with Patrick. Will their be romance on the cards?
I really enjoyed this, I easily got swept up and found myself in love with the characters. The gang of friends made me grin, and the story was so quick to read I was a little sad it was all over.
Normally I’m a huge fan of the will-they-won’t-they but at a stage I became tired of it. Wanting desperately for Annie and Patrick to see they were endgame. Because he was clearly her other half. But this actually kept me hooked, desperate for it to all come together.
I could relate to Annie, as I’m always quite insecure too. And her funny, strong attitude made me fall in love with her and Laura’s writing.
My only critique of the book is the vacation, I hoped it would be longer than it was. As the best parts of it seemed to be there. Although, overall I found escapism while reading, and I was swept away, I just wanted more of this.
It’s the perfect read for a holiday escape or for a quick, fun book with heart and friendship.
4 out of 5 stars.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Avon publishers
I had a really hard time getting into this one. It was slow moving and was hard to get into. Annie seemed to be all over the place and the side characters were equally difficult to follow. I didn't enjoy this one at all.
**DNF
I've tried to read it three times and none allowed me to keep going. I've found the writing boring and since the beginning some tropes were too obvious. A real pity, I had so much expectations on this title. It's clear it's not for me.
This was the perfect vacation romance! Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a super fun romance with some real substance and emotion
The Lucky Escape was a quick DNF for me. So many corrections needed.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC for an honest review.
The format of my ARC made this impossible to read. This isn't on the author but the publisher or Netgalley. I wish I could have read it.
This checked off everything I look for in a book. Was not disappointed. Really enjoyed this book. I will read more from this author. Must read
The story begins with Annie’s wedding day, and she is in the car with her father and two bridesmaids, heading to the church. When she gets there she discovers that Alexander, her husband-to-be has run away, and has merely texted the wedding planner, he didn’t even have the decency to tell Annie, or call it off! Annie is distraught, they had been together for ten years, since university. Afterwards her home starts to feel claustrophobic as her parents and sister are staying with her to help, and her mother keeps sniping, suggesting she must have done something to make him leave. Annie and her mother have a difficult relationship at the best of times. She wakes up early and at 5 a.m. she goes out for a walk, which ends as a fast run, then she sneaks every morning. One morning she notices Barry’s Bootcamp, where the exercising is high impact, and she decides to go for a taster class, which exhausts her and she aches all over, yet decides to book a course of ten classes. At the third class she notices a man watching her. After the class he comes over to help her remove her Lycra pullover, she has got so hot and sweaty it has stuck to her. He has recognised her - they both went to a summer drama camp in the New Forest when she was fourteen. They renew their acquaintance, and meet up for a drink after the class each day. Patrick helps to cheer Annie up.
Alexander’s parents had been totally horrified at their son’s behaviour, and had begged Annie to go on the luxury honeymoon to Australia that they had organised and paid for as a wedding present. When she talks about it with Patrick he offers to go with her as a friend. After a lot of hesitation she agrees, so they set off for an amazing holiday. Of course they get romantically involved, but neither are expecting it to last when they return to London, they are just friends enjoying each other’s company aren’t they?
There are many twists and turns in their relationship, both find it very easy, and usually without thinking, to say something to upset the other, especially when they return home. Small issues easily turn into big problems, but we do get a happy ending. I think that both Annie and Patrick’s characters could have been more thought through, there are some occasions when the way they react isn’t quite right for the way they are presented overall, but that is a minor point, it doesn’t detract from the flow of the story.
Overall, a good read.
This was a great piece of light, fluffy romcom chic-lit.
I have read reviews saying it's a bit predictable and I get it but being honest I don't care. The predictability warms me, I know I will enjoy it because it follows a tried and tested formula.
I loved the relationship between Freddie and Annie, they were the sweetest.
Patrick was lovely and just what you want in a book boyfriend.
I loved the parts in Australia, I felt like these gave the story the real feeling of what Annie had lost and gained.
I have read other books by this author and think she has a great style. I can't wait to read more.
The Lucky Escape by Laura Jane Williams
One cancelled wedding
One unexpected encounter
One spare ticket for the honeymoon…………
An interesting romantic cozy. An array of good characters. Enjoyed the peek of Australia. Main character didn’t lose any time finding a new boyfriend. I enjoyed this book.
Thanks to Net Galley for sending me an advanced reader’s copy for my review.
What a lovely book that was to read. Great characters you loved from the off, a very enjoyable storyline that was lovely to read.
Great fun book to read, liked the main characters and enjoyed the storyline. Would definitely recommend this book.
I found this book to be utterly charming. Annie is jilted at the alter. She bumps into an old friend Patrick at the gym. He is like a breath of fresh air with his no nonsense attitude to life. He teaches her that by living the best life for herself also helps others around her. Watching Annie grow and work out for herself what she needs was a real triumph. A life lesson for us all if only we were brave enough. Great holiday read
I did enjoy parts of this novel but there were were also a lot of minor moments that really annoyed me. The second half felt a lot slower and the novel could have ended at least three times before the conclusion finally happened, there was a lot of unnecessary drama towards the end of the story. I absolutely adored Our Stop but The Love Square and The Lucky Escape have sadly left me feeling disappointed.
