I always like to choose the cat mysteries. This one has so many things that didn't quite make sense to me. Like when was this supposed to take place? She mentions an expensive Cadillac El Dorado driving by, which they stopped making in 2002. She also named sandwiches after Seth Green and Megan Fox neither of which are in their Hollywood heyday anymore. I have cats but the mention of allowing Nick on the counter in the sandwich shop grossed me out not to mention it being a health code violation. And Nora kept taking evidence like the strand of hair she picked up and could feel in her pocket!? There was too much that was a stretch of imagination for it to work for me. Nora kept doing things that didn't quite make sense. If you are looking for a cat read without much thought to it this would be fine.

Nora Charles gets a call from Desiree Sanders, a friend of her deceased mother. Desiree is one half of a successful romance writing team. Desiree thinks the other half, Marlene McCambridge, is planning to end the partnership and she wants Nora to find out why. Nora agrees to speak to Marlene, but discovers the woman’s dead body. Nora learns that Marlene had been planning to write a gossipy tell-all, revealing secrets of her friends and rivals. Nora and her feline partner, Nick, launch their own investigation to find out if someone had secrets worth killing for.

It’s been a few years since the prior book in this series and I was excited to see Nora and Nick’s adventures are continuing. The premise of the book with a smart cat finding ways to communicate with Nora to help solve crime is reminiscent of Lilian Jackson Braun’s Cat Who... Series. This part of the book is well-done with Nick’s abilities coming across as amazing and fun and not too whimsical. The plot is interesting and the book starts out really good with Nora tracking down possible suspects in Marlene’s murder. Things bog down towards the middle with no real progress being made in the investigation and Nora making poor decisions.

Nora is dating an FBI agent and seems to still be attracted to a high school boyfriend who is now a police detective. In spite of this, Nora withholds her theories, plans, and even evidence from both of them and puts herself into dangerous situations from which her cat has to rescue her. Things start getting a little too unbelievable, but then Nora seems to learn from her mistakes and gets smarter about how she proceeds with her sleuthing. The story quickly turns around for an exciting ending. In fact, in spite of some disappointments in this book, developments at the end of the story have me already anticipating the next book in this charming series.

She has decided to sever a relationship with her writing partner to publish a tell-all book. Nora and Nick pay her a visit only to find her killed so it wouldn’t see the light of day. With so many suspects to pick from Nora and Nick need to find the manuscript before a friend who they think is innocent goes down for the crime.

This book was highly entertaining and I loved finding out that Nick is actually a cat with the ability to help solve mysteries (this was something I didn’t know going into the book). This is the first in the series that I have picked and was glad to see that it can be read as a standalone. I do want to go back and start from book one to get the full backgrounds of everyone involved.

I found this to be an okay read, amateurish at times, not one that I would fully recommend or discuss at length. The cover is eyecatching and would make me pick it up in a bookstore.

I'm really glad this series is back. I enjoy the characters and the stories are always fast paced and keep you guessing until the end. I do have some issues with actions taken by the main character: I'm all for the amateur sleuth asking questions and getting involved in the investigation but she takes it too far at times. <spoiler> Nora takes evidence that should have been left for the police and impedes their investigation, which puts her in danger. I'm also not a fan of the justified breaking and entering. </spoiler> These actions dropped the rating from a solid 4 to a 3. Also, I love cats but having a cat in the dining room is a stretch for me. Having a cat in the area where food is prepared is just wrong. And a health code violation.

I'm glad this series is back. I really want to know what is going on with human Nick! I enjoyed the mystery and it kept me guessing. I like the characters, and love cat Nick.

When the other half of the duo, an old friend of her mom’s asks Nora to step in and help her stop the partner, Nora never thought that she’d be thrown into yet another crime scene. Especially when she finds out that FBI Agent Samms is now filling in as the head of the town’s homicide unit. And of cours Samm’s not happy about this. Neither is Daniel, Nora’s sort of love interest and FBI agent.
It seems that Marlene had dirt on a bunch of people, from her agent, to her partner, to other authors, even a mob boss. They’re all out to find the missing manuscript, the one that will blare their secrets to the world. Nora, with the help of her tuxedo cat Nick, is set on the path to help solve this case. Especially when they arrest and charge her mom’s friend Desiree with the horrible crime.
Things ramp up when Nora and Nick find a second body, this time it’s the agent to the duo, and it’s set up to look like a suicide. Nora uses all her contacts, friends, and Nick to help solve the case. When the culprit is uncovered, you realize all the clues are laid out in a straightforward case and the author of this book didn’t even try to hide it. I don’t know about you, but it took me a little bit to put it all together. I love not being able to figure out the killer within the first few pages, but still figuring out before the big reveal.
This is the first book I’ve read from this author, but it won’t be me my last. I’ve definitely going to start this series with book one and get to know everyone. You can read this book without having read the three previous ones. I did with no issue, but with wonderful writing, intriguing characters, and a great story, you’ll want to start at the beginning like I do.

Never Plain Sailing....
The fourth in the Nick and Nora series of mysteries finds Nora proffering her assistance to an old chum of her mother’s, whose writing partnership gone wrong. Nothing ever being plain sailing it’s not too long before a body is discovered, by Nora of course, and said chum becomes suspect number one. Time for Nick and Nora to investigate once again. Entertaining cosy mystery with likeable protagonists and a colourful cast of supporting characters. A worthy addition to the series.

This was my first in the A Nick and Nora Mystery series and I found it intriguing. It surprised me how well the author portrayed quirky, almost believable communication by a cat. It was endearing. The mystery was full of twists and surprised me in the resolution, an aspect of a book that I really appreciate. I didn't understand the angst in Nora's relationships and attribute that to it being the first time I had read anything in the series. There is an enjoyable cliffhanger that has me looking forward to more.

Fortunately she has a puzzle solving mind and a partner who always has her back.

A good twisty mystery with great characters and a very smart and cute cat. I have never read this series before nor did I need to to enjoy this book. I will be picking up the rest of this series soon.

A fairly typical cosy detective with the heroine, as usual, going her own way, ignoring police advice (this time from both boyfriend and potential boyfriend) ably abetted by her cat and other friends. Does the usual breaking-in, messing with evidence and so on. A pleasant enough light read but rather like an awful lot of others I'm afraid. The adventures of Nick and Nora return in book four, HISS H FOR HOMICIDE. Someone murders author Marlene McCambridge who’s written a tell-all memoir and made plenty of enemies over the years. It’s a pleasurable task as a reader to try and figure out who the killer is among the list of suspects with plausible motives the author offers in the plot.

Nick, a most savvy kitty, is up to his usual body-sniffing ways and detects a second crime! The mystery is entertaining and absorbing and has humor throughout! I found parts of the clues nifty and original, therefore, very interesting to see some new thoughts in a cozy plot. I was surprised by the killer reveal, but it all made sense then. Great story! As a bonus, the author shares delicious recipes after the story.

Nora is a freelance journalist, runs a sandwich shop, has one old boyfriend working as temporary local Homicide detective, and the current one is FBI. But it's the cat who shows her where the clues are (and he is certainly NOT a sleek Siamese!). She also got an unexpected partner, Nick, who is a handsome tuxedo cat with an uncanny ability to use Scrabble tiles to help her solve mysteries. In this latest partnership mystery, one of Nora’s mother’s oldest friends is in town and desperately needs Nora’s help. Desiree’s writing partner wants to dissolve their long and highly successful partnership. Nora, reluctantly, agrees to visit the partner and find out what’s going on. Unfortunately, it turns out to be murder. There are lots of suspects and layers of interest in the tell-all book that was, supposedly, being written. That possibility raises the interest of Nora’s two erstwhile suitors, FBI agents Daniel and Sammy.
This was a delightful introduction to this series for me and I find the entire premise so clever. Nora is interesting and the storyline logic flows well. Nick is the perfect partner in crime-solving. The love interests are there but not too much there as they try to keep Nora and Nick safe. Looking forward to the next outing in this series!

A fun, easy read cozy mystery that will please any reader. Nick and Nora make a great team and I love the antics that Nick gets involved with.

Princess Fuzzypants here: It has been too long since I last visited with Nick and Nora Charles, not the film version but the literary one. Nick, a handsome debonair gentle-cat always well groomed in his tuxedo and Nora, his partner in crime detection found a new literary home and their fans, including me, are delighted. It was worth the wait.

They have come back with a good mystery. The writing partner of a friend of her mother’s has announced she is breaking up the partnership. Desiree, her mother’s friend, enlists Nora’s help, ostensibly, to find out what she has planned. It turns out Desiree is going to turn into the prime suspect when Nora discovers her partner’s murdered corpse. Now Nora and Nick have a good reason to investigate and they find all sorts of equally good suspects. The woman had written a salacious expose of the secrets of many of the people closest to her. While all of those whose stories would be revealed would have been embarrassed, even ruined, one of them felt strongly enough to kill her.

Nora, with Nick’s amazing talent for providing clues speaks to each of the possible killers, much to the chagrin of Daniel and Sammy’s, the two FBI guys who are working the case and who both fancy Nora. She realizes that until she finds the manuscript, it will be impossible to reveal the perp. Without Nick, she would still be looking. He leads her to the evidence and he rescues her from danger. All without getting his fur ruffled. He gives William Powell, the Nick Charles of the movies, a run for his money.

I love the interaction between the two main characters. He is one smart kitty and she is an intelligent human who relies on his many talents. It makes for a highly enjoyable read. I am so pleased they are back and look forward to many more adventures.

When they Nick and Nora stumble on yet another dead body, Nick does his best to keep Nora from meeting the same fate. With a feline partner, Nora has to hope they haven’t used up all nine of Nick’s lives before they find the killer.

This is the first book I have read in this series and there were no gaps, it reads fine as a standalone. Though I have to say, I am in love with Nick! Can’t wait to read more in this series!
