This book wasn’t for me.
I didn’t like the characters and I thought the writing needed more depth
A poor book

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

A good man by Ani Katz.
what happens when dreams shatter and the unspeakable happens? And who is to blame when there's one man left standing?
A good read with good characters. Slow but readable. 3*.

Ani Katz is a phenomenal writer and this book was incredible. I loved the narrative, told by the main character who is trying to come to terms with not being a perfect person. Brilliant.

This was a fairly short read with so many descriptive passages it seemed a long read. That’s unfair really because most of the writing was very good just perhaps a case of more is less. The characters are without exception odd and I’m glad my life isn’t filled with people like the ones found here.

"A Good Man" is not the thriller I was expecting, but rather a slow-build, slow burn of a novel with a darkly compelling main character. Thomas has a good job, a beautiful wife, and a daughter he dotes on. Thomas wants you to know that he's a good man - but is he? Through a narrative which expands to encompass his childhood, Thomas talks us through how he got to where he is now, where he has done something he regrets terribly - something we as readers suspect but don't fully know until the end of the book. The novel is beautifully written, and the plot is sinuous and creeping, with a gradually ratcheted dread seeping in as we near the inevitable conclusion. The scariest thing about this book for me was that Thomas is everyman - until he isn't. This is a realistically drawn and subtle novel, all the more compelling for its lack of any real "trigger" event.

I'll be thinking about this one for a long time.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher, who provided me with a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fascinating read, focusing on the age old question of whether evil done in the name of good is ever justified. A strong read!

A must read.
I couldn't believe that this was a debut. I raced through it from starting to ending. I was satisfied at the end.

A wonderful debut.
Thomas Martin is everything a man is supposed to be. He has a beautiful wife and a loving daughter, a good house on Long Island, a flourishing career at a prestigious Manhattan advertising firm. He’s a good son and brother, taking it upon himself to support his ailing mother and adult sisters. He knows it’s his God-given duty to shield them, his girls, from the everyday horrors of the world.
But he has failed, and unspeakable tragedy has befallen his family.
Thanks to NetGalley and Cornerstone for giving me an advanced copy.
