Coming Home to Brightwater Bay by Holly Hepburn
A well written well paced easy read. Merry’s life isn’t going well an author with writers block and a deadline for her book in the offing. She takes herself off to the Orkney Islands to get a new perspective.
Beautiful scenery, lovely characters and a sense of community. It makes me want to move there even more. Fabulous book great read. 4.5/5
What a lovely heart warming book by such a charming author sheNever disappoints.
Everything you need in a book
This is a lovely, heartwarming and inspiring women's fiction book, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Merry is an author, who is finding it hard to write, and she has also recently separated from her long term partner, so she is feeling a bit down. She decides to go to Orkney, to try and reunite her sparkle. While there, she falls in love with the place and the people. Will she get everything she has dreamed of?
This is a beautiful story, with lovely characters and nice scenery, which will whisk you away to another world. I loved it and I highly recommend it!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
This was a charming and cosy story. Merina (a romantic novelist) has writers block and after a relationship break up. Merina leaves London and escapes to the windswept Orkney Islands.
It was fascinating to read about the authors journey, how they find inspiration, research they undertake and pressures of deadlines.
The love triangle was alluring and I couldn’t figure out who she would choose.
There were some great secondary characters who really gave the whole story a community feel.
The description of the animals and places she visited sounded wonderful, so Orkney is now on my list of places to visit.
The book was very well written and flowed well. The plot was great. Everything I thought it would be from the description
This was a brilliant read and is being featured on my blog for my quick star reviews feature, which I have created on my blog so I can catch up with all the books I have read and therefore review.

A good rom-com that made me smile and root for the characters,
It's heart warming, funny and well written. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I want to read other books by this author.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
This is a nice , easy paced read that is both heartwarming and humorous.
Merina Wilde is a bestselling author and seemingly has it all. Only she has a secret, she can't meet the deadline on her latest book and her relationship with her fiance Alex is on the rocks. Newly single and feeling dejected she takes a job as Author in Residence in the Orkney Isles to get away from it all.
The last thing she needs is another relationship while on the Island, so to keep herself safe from any flirtation she misleads the locals into thinking she is still in a relationship with Alex. This later leads to misunderstandings .
The descriptive writing brings the beauty and remoteness of the Orkneys into vivid life. While on the retreat, Merry finds to inspiration to take her writing in a new direction .
This book has it all , friendship, community spirit , romance and fun. It was an enjoyable read.
After Merry has a few problems, she takes a job as a resident author in the Orkney Islands. The locals are very keen to meet her and turn up to the bookish events. There is a real sense of community and you also saw the beauty of the islands, and make you keen to visit. She finds the locals fascinating and chatting to them helps her writing block.
It was so well written that you wanted to live there and go to the book events and just be a part of the community. The perfect book to settle down and lose yourself for a few hours, with your cuppa and a pack of biscuits and your bucket list ready to update, with a new 'must visit'.

This book is brilliant read the cover is so pretty. The writing style is beautiful written. I loved every page of it. I loved the romance in the story and the lovely chemistry between characters. This is the first book I’ve read by Holly Hepburn and can’t wait to read more by her in the future. This book makes you feel happy with a beautiful romance. This book is based on 4 stories into one book. A nice fluffy read you enjoy.
What a lovely gentle and charming book this was.
Great characters (including Gordon the goat), a fabulous story, two attentive and attractive men, and a book about an author make for a uplifting romantic read.
Coming Home to Brightwater Bay is a charming tale about finding happiness, falling in love and counting your blessings that I couldn’t bear to put down. Merina is a wonderful heroine readers are going to absolutely adore and her story sparkles with humour, pathos and so much heart.
Thank you NetGalley for my advance copy. This is the first book I have read by Holly Hepburn. I found the storyline enjoyable, however I feel like I lost interest and it lost its way part way through part three. I know this was 4 short stories put together as one whole story but for me it didn’t feel like a whole story, there wasn’t enough ‘fire’ or ‘oomph’ to keep it going. For me it felt a little fragmented. Overall it was a likeable read and I would read another book by the author as I did like most of the book.
What a wonderful read, I am not unbiased though as I don’t think I’ve met a Holly Hepburn book I haven’t enjoyed . This book is totally enthralling , you will not want to put this down. As always Holly’s wonderful descriptions make you feel like you are there and now I really want to go to Orkney.
The characters are really well written, overall It’s simply a romantic and happy book that will take you away for a few hours to a place of ease and smiles.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
Really great book , wonderful story, memorable characters and fabulous setting. (I googled a lot of the places mentioned whilst reading and it was wonderful to see the real gems of the Orkney islands )
This is one of those books that you love the charm of the people in it so much that when it’s over you feel like your really gonna miss them.
Romantic fiction writer Merrina Wilde (Merry) has writers block. Her childhood sweetheart Alex has just very publicly dumped her and the deadline for her new book is looming fast. So when she sees an advert for a six month writers residency on the beautiful Orkney islands at bright water bay she jumps at the chance.
Here we meet librarian Niall,
Viking lookalike Magnuss and the formidable 80yr old runner Sheila.
This is a great story split in 4 parts and has fabulous discriptions of Orkney - (I now want to visit)
Would highly recommend this book - in fact I have to several book loving friends.
Another fabulous book from Holly even better than the star and sixpence books which I also loved.
This was originally published as 4 separate stories, which have been published as one book. The editing is seamless, so you can’t tell it was separate stories but it feels quite long.
Very light and fluffy, pleasant, though I can’t say I enjoyed it as much as other reviewers appear to have done.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my review.
This is the first book in a new series by the wonderful Holly Hepburn, and after reading and loving her previous books I couldn't wait to start this book.
Merina Wilde is a best selling author who is finding herself struggling with writers block. To make matters worse her childhood sweetheart tells her that he no longer loves her and wants them to separate.
With a broken heart and a serious lack of inspiration, Merina takes up a six month residency in Orkney.
I adored this book! The author brings the setting to life beautifully, and it really allows you to feel as though you are there alongside the characters as their stories play out. I loved following Merina's own journey back to happiness, from meeting the locals, to getting her writing mojo back, and gradually mending her broken heart.
The characters were so wonderfully developed and believable it was easy to form a connection with them, and the ways in which they all had their own stories to tell was wonderful.
A truly beautiful story.
I read this when it was released in 4 small parts and then re-read it when I got the arc from Netgalley and adored it both times around. Holly Hepburn writes brilliant characters in excellent settings with engaging stories. Loved it.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Having read many of Holly Hepburn's previous books, I had high expectations and I wasn't disappointed! Previously published in four parts as ebooks, Coming Home to Brightwater Bay brings all four parts together in one delightful read.
The story is set on Orkney and, through Hepburn's descriptions, we experience the wild beauty of the island through the seasons as we follow Merry, an author escaping some negative situations and taking on the role of Orkney's latest writer-in-residence.
There was the usual love interest but rather than an 'instalove' story, this had some moments of angst, confusion and mixed emotions and I found myself rooting for Merry all the way through. The characters are funny and lovable (for the most part) and best of all, fallible! They felt so real and relatable.
The various locations used throughout the book made me long to travel to Orkney and see them for myself. In the current climate of restricted travel, this made me dream of holidays and exploring new places. Orkney is now high on my list of places to visit!
A lovely gentle read which I highly recommend.
This was just a sweet book. I love the whole theme. For me this was just a feel good book. 3.5 stars.
( I read it via differant account)
This was such a fab book!
After reading this I just want to escape to the Orkneys. I have never visited Scotland and now I NEED TO. Once it is safe I so want to book a holiday to Scotland!
The setting was such a delight in this book, but so were the characters. I loved Merry from the beginning and really enjoyed her storyline throughout the book. I loved seeing her start over with her writers residency and how she settled in with the locals. The friendships she developed were so special and lovely!
It was such a heartwarming read and really made me smile. I was rooting for the lovely characters so much. Also, I love a book with strong secondary characters, and this definitely has that! This is my second book by Holly Hepburn and I love her writing style! Highly recommend for some light, sweet, Scottish escapism.
Thank you to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster UK for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
