Really enjoyed this book. It was so interesting and light hearted. I live this type of book as it lifts you up whilst you are reading. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
No matter how old you are this book is going to give you all the feels!
It was so beautiful! Will definitely be recommending this to everyone and anyone I talk to.
I was sent this book by the publisher, as I previously enjoyed one of their previous books. When I saw the cover and read the synopsis I thought it would be right up my street, as I love a good woman's fiction, chick lit book.
The story follows the lives of three women, two of which Claire and Anna have been married for what feels like forever and both to older men. Being at a certain chapter in their lives, both women reflect back on how their husbands have changed, and not always for the better. Anna's still working full time and is finding her husband is becoming very frail and needs more help around the house. Claire, busy looking after the children and her sister is married to Rupe, who used to be an amazing powerful business man but now drinks too much and is set in his ways.
The other woman is Ellie, who happens to be Claire's daughter and has met someone twenty years her senior, and is also dealing with the age difference issues. She wants to go out but Tom who is really busy with work just wants to stay home.
It is a book about friendships, families and certainly something we can all relate to whatever our age. The characters especially Claire are so easy to like and you find yourself getting dragged in to the story and rooting for their relationships to work out.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Estimated publication date is 28th May 2021.
A lovely story set in an area which I know well. A story of an english school and two families. Definitely put you off marrying an older man. Rupe was a good character. You felt for Josh re job hunting. A nice story,Lovely how the sisters pulled together for Tony
Ellie is introducing her fiancé, Tom to the family. Her mum Claire is feeling uneasy about the relationship. Could it be that Tom is nearer her age and her husband has recently retired and is under her feet all day.
Anna works with Ellie but is also feeling at odds with life. Her husband is 20+ years older but she is not ready to retire yet and sit at home.
This is a story of life and love and living and opening your eyes to what you have not what you think you want.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC for an exchange of an honest review.
Lovely sweet story that I enjoyed very much.
Old Enough to Know Better is actually about three women, Clare, Ellie, and Anna. Clare is Ellie’s mother and Anna is Ellie’s co-worker. Clare and Anna both married men at least twenty years older than themselves and Ellie is now engaged to a man who is only 8 years younger than her mother. I really liked both Clare and Anna. They were both young enough to still want to get out in the world and do things while their husbands were both retired and just kind of wanted to slow down and relax. Ellie was a spoiled daddy’s girl and I didn’t really even like her, although there were signs of her growing up a little by the end. This is the second book that I have read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Jane Wenham-Jones is now on my must read list of authors. Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book as it details the trials and tribulations of women of a certain age! Something I can easily relate to!
Relationship woes, ageing, declining health and empty nest syndrome all feature heavily in this lighthearted, funny read as Clare, her sisters and Anna all go through midlife problems and the choices they have to make, some more sensible than others! Love that infatuated you as a youngster is so different to the comfortable/ staid/declining love that they are now experiencing for several different reasons but will love conquer all? Menopause, Erectile dysfunction, disability and changed roles are all discussed as they tackle the issues above with aplomb!
Thank you net galley for this early read.
This is something I needed to read, the fun all the uplifting it contains. Read cover to cover in one sitting .
This supposedly humorous book may touch a nerve for some readers, but unfortunately it wasn’t my cup of tea. I was bored from start to finish.
When Tom asked Ellie to move in with him before they got married, after knowing each other for only a few weeks, Ellie couldn't wait: and people couldn't wait to tell her she was making a mistake! Especially as Tom was nearly 20 years older than Ellie.
Ellie's Mum Claire had married after knowing Rupe for only a few weeks.
Anna, Ellie's colleague had married a man older than her, and was now his carer not his lover.
These three strong women have some important decisions to make.
This humorous book may touch a nerve for some readers.
The book revolved around relationships with large age gaps and roles of wives as lovers and care givers. Unfortunately I did find it slow in places and i did lose interest at times. It is easy to read. Although it was not the best book for me I would try others by the author in the future.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for ARC.
I received an advance copy of, Old Enough to Know Better, by Jane Wenham-Jones. I found this book to be to immature for me. I could not get into this book at all.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. As a lady of a certain age this was right up my street and made me realise that life is too short no matter what age you are. Great read
Age, After All, Is Just A Number...
What really matters in life? Age, after all, is just a number. Living the life you have is the most important. A heartwarming, witty tale with a nicely drawn cast of characters and an enjoyable storyline. A feel good read.
With thanks to netgalley for an early copy in return for an honest opinion never read this author before it was such an uplifting book full of joy 😂 I can highly recommend
I've received this book for an honest review from netgalley #netgalley
This book was so much fun and I love being on the journey with these strong independent women.
Great book on having relationships with older partners and what that entails. and making choices that make you happy.
A sweet book about women ‘of a certain age’ reviewing their lives, loves, relationships and families. The book centres around three women, Anna who is married to Jeremy - he is much older than her and becoming frail, Clare who is married to Rupe - also a much older man, and Ellie who is Clare’s daughter and has just started a relationship with a man twenty years her senior. Their lives intersect in different ways and all of them face temptation. Will they escape their current lives or will they find their way back to happiness in the life they already have? An easy to read book that will leave you caring about these women and their lives.
May to December relationships and romances explored again. Clare and her husband are more roommates now, the passion has gone and although they love each other they are not in love. Then Ella brings home a new boyfriend who is closer to Clares age and there is.......well something there. Will Ella repeat her mums pattern? Will Clare accept her lot or move on. And then there’s Anne!
This is a lovely book, not dramatic, rapid or unexpected, it’s soft, flowing, has gentle humour and is easy to read. Buy it! Read it! Love it!
