I love Patricia Briggs's book as they're always a lot of fun to read.
I don't share her world view but I surely love her world building and characters.
This is another fast paced and gripping story that kept me turning pages.
I didn't read all the books in this series but I will surely read what I missed.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I find Briggs books really frustrating in that I get completely drawn in and then Briggs will throw in something that completely jolts me out of the series. Often it’s her use of rape to further a character arc. Also not in love with the endemic sexism amongst werewolves – it just doesn’t make sense. Real wolves do not act this way and there’s no logic in the wolf side of werewolf nature to be more dominant than the human. Basically, there’s a lot of problematic stuff in these books. In some ways this was a solid entry in the spin off Alpha and Omega series. In others it did the same thing in terms of jolting me out of the series. There’s too much that irritates me to really enjoy what is basically a good story.

Patricia Briggs has brought us another wonderful adventure in her most recent release from her Alpha & Omega series, Wild Sign.

Fan favourites will already be familiar with Charles Cornick, the Marrok’s son and popular choice for dealing with problems that impact the pack. Charles is respected by most werewolves (and other creatures, too), who also know he is not to be underestimated. His reputation usually precedes him. His Omega mate, Anna, brings her own skills to the table.

Trouble first makes itself known when (the Marrok) Bran’s mate, Leah, starts to act out of character. Next, the FBI shows up asking Anna and Charles questions. An entire group of people, from a wilderness settlement called Wild Sign, have disappeared. The land Wild Sign is on also turns out to be in Leah’s name.

When Anna and Charles set out to investigate, Bran insists they bring along the Berserker for help. What they find in Wild Sign is sad, eerie, and frightening. They soon realise they are dealing with an ancient creature who is more powerful than anyone they have faced before, and it isn’t working alone.

I’m a huge fan of Patricia Briggs and have spent many hours deep between the vividly creative pages of her books. Wild Sign is no exception and it has been such a treat to read.

4.5/5 Stars

I’m already looking forward to what Patricia Briggs writes next.

My heartfelt thanks to Netgalley, Little Brown Book Group UK, and Patricia Briggs for the opportunity to read Wild Sign in exchange for an impartial review. All opinions are my own.

I have eagerly awaited the release of this latest instalment of the Alpha & Omega series from Patricia Briggs - it did not disappoint!
Alpha & Omega is a spin off from the Mercy Thompson series, however has its own devoted following with strong leads in Charles Cornick and his mate Anna. Charles is the son of Bran who is the Marrok (or Wolf who leads). He is the only born werewolf and has been his fathers means of justice for those packs who have transgressed. Anna was forcibly changed and then abused by her pack, this led Charles and Anna to cross paths to the joy of both.
Wild Sign is the sixth book in the Alpha & Omega story arc and not only deepens our understanding about Charles & Anna but also about Leah (Brans wife), a character who generally readers have come to dislike. No spoilers but it is a gift for a writer to create a narrative where even the most unlikeable character can be redeemed, not because they are secretly 'good', but from understanding their history. They may still be unlikeable in some of their actions but as with any of us their history has shaped who they are.
Wild Sign is an off grid community which was built in land owned by Leah, land where she was rescued by Bran under mysterious circumstances. The community vanishes which leads Bran to send Charles, Anna and their henchwolf Tag to investigate.
The story has intrigue, black witches, sasquatch, malevolent entities and of course werewolves and I loved every bit so much I have read this twice.
If you have never read any Patricia Briggs then I would urge you to do so. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for access to the ARC it kept me going during Lockdown and views are my own.

The sixth Charles and Anna Werewolf book didn't really grab me as much as the earlier ones, but it was still worth reading. I had this as a review copy from Netgalley and, like a previous Briggs review copy the formatting made it a difficult read. I'm sure this will not be a problem in the final published copy, but the publisher should take note that it's distracting. Anyhow, that aside, Charles and Anna are off into the wilds of California to solve a mystery of why a small off-grid settlement seems to be deserted. It's a Marie Celeste type of puzzle and seems to have its roots in the supernatural. Something old and dangerous has woken, and the Marrok's mate (not the most popular wolf in the pack despite her status) might know something about it.

Alpha & Omega is my favourite series from Patricia Briggs, I mean I love Mercy, but there’s something about Anna abs Charles that holds my heart. The previous books have been building up to this a bit at a time, the witches, build up to Leah and her story, despite the aggravation to her character I have always felt sad for Leah, she doesn’t deserve the way Bran is with her, but so glad we got her sad story and why she’s been so justifiably angry. Before I know it with these books I’m at the end and feel sad, because it’s ended and I have to wait for more. Fantastic series, if you haven’t read these, go back to the start and enjoy

In the wilds of the Northern California mountains, all the inhabitants of a small town have gone missing. It's as if the people picked up and left everything they owned behind. Fearing something supernatural might be going on, the FBI taps a source they've consulted in the past: the werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham. But Charles and Anna soon find a deserted town is the least of the mysteries they face.

Death sings in the forest, and when it calls, Charles and Anna must answer. Something has awakened in the heart of the California mountains, something old and dangerous — and it has met werewolves before.

Full disclosure (other than one short story) I've never read anything from this universe, but this was the kind of book where you can kind of pick it up without prior knowledge. That said — I will absolutely be reading the next book in the series.

I liked the characters (mostly anyway, I don't like Bran all that much). My favourite was Leah, I know that she isn't the most liked character, but this will be changing that. Without going into it, she absolutely has a tragic backstory — I felt a lot of sympathy for her. Also, I felt that Tag was very funny — I would love for him to be more prominent in the next book. Charles and Anna were very cute.

The plot was interesting, and it moved at an okay pace — not too slow or fast. However, I did feel tike the last three chapters were rushed/crammed. I read this in two days, it would've been one if I didn't have assignments due. I was desperate to find out what happened next. I don't know what to say about that ending though — wow! I did feel that it was too much for an epilogue. There weren't loose string really, but I would've liked to see some more emotion.

Generally, Wild Sign was thoroughly entertaining, and I recommend it for sure.

Thank you to NetGalley and Little Brown Book Group UK for this ARC.

An Alpha and Omega Book 6 reunites with Werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham. They travel to the forests of Northern California to checkout a town where the people had just vanished. Music and magic plays a big part in this violent place and Black and White witches carry the next generation of walkers. Within the forest are the Sasquatch the guardians. All these elements come together at this time to confront the Singer maybe this time the outcome will be different.
These main characters have all come on a journey through the previous books and your connection to them will be reflected in if you’re a fan of the series.
I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Another great book from this much loved world.

I'm not sure what it was about Wild Sign, but it took me quite a while to get into the story. The pace was incredibly slow. Despite this slow build up, Anna and Charles are such dynamic, interesting characters, they give so much warmth and personality to the book. Add in Brother Wolf and Tag and we have another winner from Patricia Briggs.

In Wild Sign, the FBI turns up at Anna and Charles's home asking for help with an unusual case. A small community has gone completely missing and so Bran sends them along with Tag to investigate, when they do something dark, old and mysterious stirs bringing up memories from the past.

We learn Leah's backstory which gives us much more of an understanding of her character, although I still am not fond of her, I do have sympathy for everything she has been though. As for Bran, between the Mercy revelation in Burn Bright and his treatment of Leah, it's a firm dislike of him now.

The progression each new book brings is so captivating, they draw you further and further into the world and blend into each other so naturally. Some really interesting things happened in the last couple of chapters and once again I can't wait for the next one. Fingers crossed that the wait won't be too long.

TW: Mentions of sexual assault and rape

Thank you Little Brown Book Group UK, Orbit and NetGalley for providing me with a copy to review.

Alpha & Omega, the parallel series to Briggs’ Mercy Thompson has advanced to a sixth book already and it’s still going strong. In Wild Sign, Charles Cornick, Mercy’s werewolf step-brother, and his wife Anna, the omega, are sent to investigate the disappearance of an entire village in the mountains between California and Oregon, in a land owned by Charles’s step-mother Leah.

Leah has been a staple character in both series, a constantly disagreeable figure with whom Charles and Mercy have a very conflicted relationship. Her mating with Bran has been a puzzle to the entire pack. Here we finally have her story and learn why Bran mated her, and why she’s been angry for two centuries. It involves a mysterious god-like power and Sherwood Post, the werewolf in Mercy’s pack who has lost his memory.

Playing with one’s memories is the godlike entity’s main weapon, and it accesses them through music, to which Anna as a musician is particularly susceptible. And it’s not magic that Charles can easily counter with his skills. The entity needs to lure women to it in order to impregnate them, so that it can gain power and become a god in reality. And Anna is there, no matter that as a werewolf she can’t get pregnant.

It’s not easy to battle a god, let alone defeat it. Great sacrifices are needed, and that’s where Leah has a role to play. She has to face her past in order to finally be free. For all that I’ve always disliked her, she became a real, relatable person with her suffering. Bran too has to face his past with her.

This felt like a shorter book than it probably was. It seemed like Anna and Charles were still investigating when the final battle was already on them. But the battle was complicated enough that the ending didn’t feel rushed. The emotional payoff was perfect too, especially in the epilogue. All in all, a good addition to the series that opens great new avenues for the series.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this exciting book

werewolves and witches whats not to like about this book

wild sign a town in the mountains is empty not one person can be found, nobody knows what happened to them, these people were known to live off the grid

charles and anna mated werewolves are tasked with looking into the mystery so along with tag another powerful werewolf they start looking and once on the scene things start to go wrong

with black witches galore this is an interesting storyline and the twist at the end makes it more enjoyable

will be keeping an eye out for more of this authors works

Wild Sign is the 6th installment in the much-loved Alpha & Omega series by Patricia Briggs. In this book, we are met with old characters, shocking revelations, new supernatural creatures and a foe that will make your anxiety hit the roof throughout the whole book. Fans will learn new things about Cornick brothers and a favorite character from the Mercy Thompson series.

Patricia Briggs has never been an author to shy away from reflecting the harder things in life to her books which makes them relatable to the reader. She left several threads dangling which leaves me looking forward for the next books.

Fans of Patricia Briggs, urban fantasy and folklore are going to love this book.

TW: this book heavily contains mention of sexual assault that may be triggering for some readers.

What can I say about this incredible Author - this latest Charles and Anne book was fantastic .

A group of witches living off the grid in the wilds of Northern California have gone missing -
all their belongings left behind .
FBI agents asks Anne and Charles for help - they suspect a supernatural reason - but is
there another motive to their request , how did the FBI find their home ?
Realising the site in question belongs to Bran's wife Leah adds another dimension to their
search .......... for its at this site that Bran made Leah his mate .
Something "Old" is lurking on the site just what is its connection not to just the new disappearances
but to Leah's past .?
Anna along with Charles and Tag attempt to find the site and discover what happened to the
missing witches .
Their very lives are at stake unless they can defeat the "Old" one ............... with help from an unexpected source

This book brings to the fore Leah's early life and mating with Bran ...... and whilst I began to understand her
and like her a little more - she will still have to go a long way to make up for her treatment of Mercy in the past

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wilde Sign is once again an enrapturing story about Anna and Charles and you would think about some mythical creature they are sent to subdue. But this time it’s a story about missing people, so why are they sent to find them and why into that distant mountain and what has music to do with it or some two hundred year old history?
It’s not just a story about missing persons, it’s a story about resurrection and rebirth, coexisting and deceit, and finding missing memories. It was not an easy story for the characters, they had to do things nobody would ever want to do and remember things our brains fight to forget. And once again has Briggs brought a mythical creature into her story that the readers might or might not know from some other fantasy books, just maybe not in this role.
The book is wonderful, it has its hard moments and it has its light moments and even some really fun moments, but the ending … I was really not expecting that.

Wild Sign has magic and mystery in spades.

One of my favourite aspects of the Alpha & Omega is the relationship between is Anna and Charles. They have a great balance between the two of them. It was also interesting to see how Tag another pack member act around Charles and Anna, and how it's different when Anna not around.

Wild Signs finally gives us information about Leah past. The added information has changed my opinion of Leah and understands why she is the way she is. I am hoping it allows more character growth from her in future books.

The mystery that Charles and Anna get drag into it gives me Roanoke Colony mystery. But this time we get an answer. The investigation doesn't only deal with the mystery bu a something from Charles past comes up.

Two of my favourite things from the book are;

Anna being more of a badass when talking to people aka FBI / Witches.
Brother Wolf. I love his comments on the situation.

The ending of Wild Sign has left me question two things. Which I think will impact Anna and Charles in another book. One of the things may come up in a Mercy book. Who Knows.

I love Patricia writing style. It makes it so easy to read and get lost in the story.

My Rating for Wild Signs is 4.8 out of 5.

Wild Sign is a book that I find difficult to review. On one hand I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Alpha & Omega series as well as the Mercy Thompson Series, every release date I send out a mass text that tells my family and friends that I have a new book and they are NOT TO CONTACT me at all unless its an emergency. Getting an ARC for Wild Sign was such a welcome and exciting surprise. I sent out the do not call text and sat down and devoured the book in 5 hours. I love Charles and Anna so much, their witty flirty banter, how much trust the have in each other. There isn't a single character in the entire series that I dislike.

That being said, I fully believe that Wild Sign NEEDS a content warning. Fans of the series know that Sexual Assault is an ongoing motif, which the characters are constantly dealing with the trauma of their past assaults and moving forward. I see myself in these characters, their struggles with their past are mine as well. and I bring this up only to give readers of this review a basis on how Wild Sign affected me.

While reading Wild Sign I found myself triggered several times and was sorely tempted to drop the book entirely. I kept going because I hoped the theme would lighten up. It did not. The book was extremely dark, triggering, and anxiety inducing. Even after pushing myself to finish the book, which I received in early January, I found myself dealing with nightmares, general anxiety and overall upset. Even waiting to write this review as the Publisher asked has caused much upheaval, because in order to write a clear and honest review I have to keep the events of the book fresh in my mind.

I will not be buying Wild Sign. I will not recommend it to friends or family. I will be doing my upmost best to wipe it entirely from my mind. My hope is that others are not so triggered by the contents of Wild Sign as I have been.

Wild Sign, An Alpha and Omega Novel. Book 6, Patricia Briggs

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Sci-fi and fantasy

Well, Patricia Briggs is by far my favourite author – in any genre. Her books are as fresh now as when I first read Moon Called back in Sept 2010!! I had to look that up, can't believe it was so long ago...I've re read bother the Mercy Thompson ( Hauptmann) and the Alpha and Omega ones many times now. I discover things I'd missed in earlier reads each time, there is so much detail and subtle clues.

As these books have advanced in series I've noticed they've become closer, with characters from each series making cameo appearances in the other. Of course Bran, Charles and Samuel have always featured in both, and the more major secondary characters take appearances and get referred to, but now even the plots seem to be connected, and get referenced to in each story. I love that connection.

So having done my fan-girling about PB and these fab stories what about this book.
I made sure to read in daytime only, as one review mentioned parts verged on horror – and I'm a complete wimp. I get nightmares from the slightest things, My kids laughed when I couldn't even watch The Mummy with them ;-)
However I needn't have worried, its got mo more “horror” in that the MT one with the Hardesty witches, and as usual everything here fitted the story line perfectly.

What I love is that its not just Charles and Anna, but others that creep in, and along the way seeds are sown for characters, plots in later books. With the story overlaps now, that could be in either series, its become a kind of game for me, trying to see people and events that may become more. One of my favourite “newish” characters from the MT series, Sherwood Post, makes an appearance here, not in person but as a character that's been involved in the current plot in the past, and some of the mysteries about his past have come forward. I've a fleeting thought from this book of who he might be really, given he's lost his memory and no-one knows – apart from Bran, who may know, but is saying nothing. That man is a real enigma.

Of course there's the usual slow burn plot development, where things seem relatively simple, but turn out to be anything but, and Anna, Charles and Tag are in real danger. We're introduced to yet another new supernatural entity, well two really, one is a group rather than one ..person? Creature? I wonder if the new group will take a greater part in later stories? I get the feeling by now that when PB introduces someone or something new its for a reason. Sherwood is a great case, he crept in fairly innocuously and yet he's become a major, essential character in recent books. As a fellow one leg amputee I have a kind of feeling of kinship with him...though sadly wolf changing is beyond me. Leah features more here, usually she's just the cold, unfeeling person in the background, the Alpha's Mate who hates Mercy. PB did what I thought wasn't possible, made me feel sorry for her.

Its a cracking read, and reminds me its been a while since I revisited the whole series. Over Xmas I reread all the Mercy novels and had a fabulous immersion into that world, so I think its time for an Alpha and Omega immersion, my favourite way to read books like this, allowing me to get totally lost into that world for a while.

And the end..what can I say about that? Nothing, sadly, without spilling too much, but its incredible, unexpected, though again the clues were set in earlier books from both series. Its not a cliffhanger, just a huge surprise ending. Bittersweet in that some folk are very happy and others will be very sad, and of course it makes me wonder whats going to happen about this new development..

Stars: Five. Another riveting, drama filled suspense from Patricia Briggs. A fantastic read, bring the series forward and setting openings for future plots. Thank goodness, what would I do if PB stopped now??

Four and a half stars.

The FBI visit Anna Cornick to warn her that a small settlement of off-gridders (did I make that up) have been living on land registered to Leah Cornick (Bran's mate) and have disappeared off the face of the earth. Leah owns that land for a terrible reason, one bound up in the story of how Bran came to turn her into a werewolf and mate her, the reason for the strained relationship between the Alpha and his mate.

Bran sends Anna, Charles and Tag to investigate, what they find is an ancient power, using music to lure and seduce its followers.

I think it says something that I read this on my iPad because the ARC I received was incapable of being read on anything other than the NetGalley Shelf app on my iPad and yet I still stayed awake until 3am to finish this book. And I will spend another day in a wrist splint to alleviate the pain of holding a heavy iPad for hours on end.

I have always loved Anna and Charles, their stories have generally felt less dense and more accessible than Mercy's (by which I mean that sometimes I get confused by the fae and Coyote and stuff like that in the Mercy books and don't fully understand what is going on - not that the writing is in any difficult to read). Also their ongoing love story and Anna's importance to Bran's pack of misfits has always sparked deep joy.

On a less personal note, I don't want to spoil anything but OMG the 'monsters' in this book are epic. The tension builds up and up and up, hence the 3am finish, there's an awesome battle and some absolutely tantalising nuggets in the epilogue.

Love, love, loved it!

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This new adventure of Anna and Charles finds them investigating a mass disappearing, which has something to do with the past of their alpha’s mate Leah.

It was a fascinating story, specially as we find more about Leah past. It’s amazing to see how much Anna and Charles relationship has grown and how much more secure Anna is about herself, Charles and her place in the pack.
The ending is a little bit odd and end with a cliffhanger, which I cannot wait to continue.

As usual Patricia Briggs brough the readers an amazing story with complex characters. Cannot wait for the next book.

'Wild Sign' is the 6th book in the Alpha and Omega series written by Patricia Briggs, which in turn is book 18 the much larger Mercy Thompson World by the same author, so doesn't require much description since I'm assuming you're already a fan of the series of you're considering reading this.

Suffice to say this is my favourite series by this author and this is another great installment!
