A very twisty thrilled.
A very bleak and dark tone to it. Liza Costello writes the descent under a evi person's spell very well, nailbitingly good
I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book wasn’t my favorite psychological thriller of late, but it was perfectly serviceable and did the job. The epitome of a three star thriller
A thriller with plenty of twists and turns that is set in a remote, dark estate in Ireland which is a refreshing change from reading a novel set in the busy streets of London or New York. I chose this book based on the cover and without knowing what it was about. I know we shouldn't "judge a book by it's cover" but "The Estate's" cover definitely drew me in and I was curious to read this book.
I was very pleasantly surprised at how this story gripped me from the beginning and how I needed to keep reading to find out what was going to happen with Beth, the main character. I could imagine the cold, creepy, Irish estate in my head as I followed Beth's story and felt myself wanting to scream at her during certain parts of the book.
There are several creepy and mysterious characters in this book which keep your mind guessing and wondering what will happen next.
After finishing this book, I found I had a few questions that I would have loved answered. However, overall this book was an excellent read and I would definitely recommend it.
Liza has a fantastic style of writing and I look forward to reading her future books.
Thank you to Liza Costello, Hachette Books Ireland and Net Galley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
A young woman who appears to have a problem with alcohol falls for a total stranger while out drinking with friends one night. Already a pariah because of her drinking, she moves in with the man, who soon proves to be controlling, selfish and potentially violent. When he tells her of a chance to live rent free on an estate still in the process of being built. The house is gorgeous, if remote and there are few neighbors. She must live in the house alone for a few months while he finishes up some business, but he visits sporadically, growing ever more sullen and dangerous. While the main character is easy to dislike because of her problems with alcohol, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her as she falls under the spell of a true sociopath. A knuckle biting novel
This is a dark and at times gritty thriller. I can’t say I loved it but it kept me interested throughout the book. The characters in the book aren’t very nice and it definitely isn’t a happy feel good book but it suited me and I am glad that I read it. 3.5 🌟
My thanks to Netgalley, Hachette Irelansd and Liza Costello for the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest and non biased review.
