I was drawn to this book with the description. Sara Nowak and her partner David work for the police. You get an insight into the cold war with lots of secrets. Perfect for spy lovers. It's a really fast paced read. Full of twists this turns into quite the page turner. I really enjoyed reading this book.
I was hugely intrigued by this book when I first saw this appear on social media and I just knew that I needed to read it to know what or who the heck Geiger was! I was fortunate to also receive an arc proof copy too so many thanks to the publishers for that. Gustaf Skordeman is in a league of his own and has created an intriguing masterpiece that keeps you guessing right to the end. I couldn't stop reading and it was on my mind constantly! A highly addictive and educational read and I look forward to reading more from the author.
First class international mystery and spy story for fans of I Am Pilgrim. Extremely well written and not for the faint hearted, as this book moves from devastating reveal to devastating reveal with more twists than you can imagine. Brilliantly devised plot that keeps on giving and moves from spy story to child sexual exploitation tragedy. Sara is a strong main character who is inextricably linked to elements of the story that not even she realises when she starts investigating. Well translated this story packs a punch although delivers a slightly abrupt ending. Thanks to Netgalley for sending me an Arc of this book. Published on 29th April 2021, and set to be a bestseller I am sure.

I want to begin this review by stating how jaw-dropping the beginning of the book is and the continued suspense throughout! Due that fact, this book will stay memorable to me.
Unfortunately, there was too much political goings on for me but that is due to my personal preference and not to do with the writing of the book. I can see that so many customers will absolutely love this title so although it wasn’t my cup of tea, I’ll definitely still be hand selling it.
The reverse storyline added to the suspense throughout as it was flipped on its head when you as the reader find out the culprit early on - you end up feeling like the detective which creates anxiety throughout the reading experience which I thought was fantastic.
Finding out the intertwining storylines through snippets of information from the past and present and between different people opens you up to a whole new guessing game.
I liked the personal touch from Sara and how her life story is weaved in amongst everything else. Her struggles are really showcased and give a humanitarian aspect.
Due to the heavy political elements I got to a point that it just wasn’t for me but have since recommended it to others that I think will absolutely love it! Synopsis of the book that I’ve read don’t divulge the extent of political storyline so that could maybe be a little clearer.
Once again, a well written book that I’m sure many are going to enjoy!
Likened to 'I Am Pilgrim', 'Geiger' immediately hit my radar as one of the new books of 2021 that I HAD to read. I'm often skeptical about such comparisons, but I can see where they are coming from with this one. A slowly unfolding story, this is a tale that begins with one word uttered down a phoneline to a well-known Stockholm household, 'Geiger'. The word sets into motion a chain of events, some of which have been in the making for decades.
I really don't want to go into detail about the plot for fear of spoilers. What I will say though is that 'Geiger' kept me guessing until the very last page.
While I, overall, enjoyed the novel, I found the ending rushed in comparison to the rest of the relatively slow-paced novel. I was 90% through the book and wasn't sure how the answers that I sought would fit into the last 10%. They did, but I can't help but feel that some answers were very much info-dumped on the reader. I had to take the time to really process them, but that might just be my fog-addled brain.
I enjoyed the mystery of 'Geiger', and the weaving together of a plethora of topics. It's a novel that made me think, and I really enjoyed that about it.
I am a great fan of espionage fiction, and this novel hit all the right notes for me. Suspenseful and highly surprising!
Geiger is a thriller story that has an amazing build up and interesting twists. I really enjoyed the development between both the story and the characters, but felt like some scenes dragged. There were many chapters where the scenes were long and filled with internal monologue that kept repeating. I really loved the build up towards the ending, it has a real bang factor. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
Geiger
.
A mysterious codeword, a murder and the devastating culmination of a plot 50yrs in the making.
.
Sounds like a thrilling ride and it most definitely was. At the end of the first chapter I was literally agog with what happened 😱
.
KGB spy rings, fast paced edge of the seat stuff which meant I flew through this book to find out what happened.
.
I did find some of the sexualised scenes hard to read but they were in context with the story. My only niggle is the ending... you cannot finish a book that way without having a sequel written immediately! There was such a massive build up, a superb plot twist and then it just ended.
.
Geiger is out 29th April and definitely one to pick up. Thank you @Netgalley and @zaffrebooks @bonnierbooks_uk for this copy to read and review.
