A great story about an actor’s personal life falling to pieces while he prepares for play on Broadway of Shakespeare’s Henry IV.
Well written , The main character is loosely based on the author’s life so maybe comes across as a little self absorbed, but not to the point I stopped reading. I enjoyed this book it was interesting, and dark in a humorous way. Worth a read.
Young famous movie actor is about to step on a stage for the first time and at the same time his family problems are blasted all over society pages. A Bright Ray of Darkness is a contemplation about theatre, Shakespeare, fatherhood, marriage, acting, things you should hold on to and things you should let go, how to handle new and frightening things and how to make mistakes. Here is humor and drama. In a way it can be taken as a tutorial for a young actor or if your marriage has problems.
There are some similarities with Lauren Graham’s “Someday, Someday, Maybe” - while reading you are wondering how much is the author's real life, how much is a fellow actor's life and how much is fantasy. And both books give a pretty good idea of what actors must face on daily bases when they start.
Even if there were things that irked me, it still was a good read.
