I have such mixed feelings about this book!

I did genuinely really enjoy it. It was a fun and fast read for when you’re in the mood for some monster slaying! Kate was a solid character to read and I’m definitely going to pick up the second book, because im hoping it gets better as it goes.

I think my biggest issue’s were mostly her husband and his entire attitude/character, I wasn’t a fan of. I wanted to know more about her late/first husband than having to deal with him and his just general lack of consideration for her in my opinion. And everyone was *so* nosy! That’s just a personal grip, for me. It felt like Kate couldn’t even breath without her neighbor or kids asking what was up with her.

The ending was…meh. I expected it and the plot twist felt like such a red herring.

I really did enjoy this book! I really liked Kate and I like the set up for the world building and demon slaying. I just wish the characters and plot reveal around the world building had been stronger.

oh my goodness, this series !! I want more. I want a miniseries. I want a series !! it's like Buffy , but she got older, married, and had kids. Kate used to be a Demon Hunter, but now she is retired. Until, that is, she sees a demon at Walmart. Whats a gal to do ???
Kate has to juggle the demons that are trying to take over her town and destroy her, as well as her family of a teenager ( yikes) and a 2 year old ( terrible?).

Seize the Day !!

so much fun

I read this book when it first came out years ago. I enjoyed it then and enjoyed it this time. I think it's held up well in the 10 years since first published. It's a light, fun demon kicking read. Looking forward to getting caught up with the other 7 books (I had read a couple more).

I received a contemporary copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed the way Ms. Julie Kenner writes, the story was really well done and worked well as scifi novel.

This is such a fun read. What busy mum and house wife doesn’t long for some out of the ordinary action to brighten your days in between cooking, cleaning, school drop offs, activities & homework. Why not demon hunting!! It’s well written and really funny. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

Just what i needed!

This is a paranormal hilarious book! We have a soccer mom, also a demon slayer. Julies writting is simple and nice and shows us a lot of drama, love, action and of course, some funny moments.

A must read!

This is an adorable paranormal and often hilarious book. The main character is a soccer mom who hunts and kills demons. She has kept her secret from her family except her hubby who she was partnered with.
The action and the drama were intense but that made me read faster to try to find out what was happening. I thought this book was awesome. I definitely recommend this book.

Carpe Demon was a humorous and casual read. There was never a dull moment in the day to day life of a mom/demon hunter struggling to juggle raising her kids and keeping them safe. I got exactly what I was looking for in this book. I love that the author explored losing a husband and being able to find love again without forgetting and feeling guilty about thinking about him. All in all a fun light read.

Being a soccer mom and a demon slayer is hard work. Plus keeping it secret from your daughter. Julie Kenner delivers a fun read about demon slaying snd the unexpected.

I gave this a shot, but I had to DNF. I wanted a kick-ass main character fighting demons while also raising a family, not messy suburban housewife looking after a social-climbing husband and cleaning up after everyone while being so annoyed that demons have interrupted her dinner party. There were also a lot of brand names getting dropped left, right and center, which makes the entire book feel even more dated than it already does.

I had never read any of the books in this series but was attracted by the cover and the title.

Kate Connor is similar to a grown-up Buffy the Vampire Slayer, except that she worked for the Vatican and hunted demons. She is long retired and happily married, a stay-at-home Mom with two children, a 14-year-old daughter, and a toddler son. Her husband knows nothing about that part of her life, and he has no idea that demons are real. One day she thinks she smells a demon in Walmart, and later that day, one crashes through her window. What's a demon hunter to do? Kill the demon, of course, and hide the body, which was kind of awkward when it happens right before a dinner party important to her husband who is thinking of running for a public office.

I enjoyed the humor in the story. However, I didn't like that Kate decided to continue to keep her husband in the dark, even when their children were threatened. While the secrecy of burying bodies, hiding bodies in closets, sheds, etc., gave the story a slapstick feeling, I thought the book would have been better if her husband had been let into the secret, even if it was after the crisis had passed.

I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley, and am voluntarily leaving this review.

First up, thank you for allowing me to try out this book, I was very curious about it when I participated in a blog promo for this book's series.
Sadly, I got to 33% and I am just not feeling it. I expected more demons and fighting and less parenting and constantly going on and on about her daughter (her clothes, her attitude, etc.) or her clueless husband. There was one little fight, one small self-defence, and that is it... at 33%. I get that she isn't a demon hunter any more, but still I had expected a bit more action. And there was just something about the characters that just didn't work for me. I can't really put my finger on what it is, but something just didn't work. Plus, I found it very convenient that that guy was the one to help her out/give assignments.
Maybe if one day I find it somewhere in paperback (small chance given the libraries here love Dutch books) I may give it another shot. Maybe this is also just a case of doesn't work in x format but does work in y. Yes, that has happened quite a few times. Haha.
For now I will give 2 stars because there were parts I enjoyed (laughed my butt off how creative she was with weapons and loved that despite being retired and not keeping up with things she was still kick-ass).

I absolutely loved this book. I was a huge Buffy fan in my younger years and this definitely reminded me of my favorite slayer! Kate is my favorite type of character! The book itself is funny, entertaining and has some good action scenes. I read this book years ago and completely forgot about it but I’m so glad I reread it!! Highly recommend this!!

What if Buffy grew up and became a soccer mom?
This book is hysterical, while still having an interesting plot.
The small child gets annoying to me every once in a while (I'm not a mom, so of course.)
I think anyone who is a mom will love this book, and those who aren't can get a kick out of it too.

Kate Connor is back in the ring. After being a retired Hunter in San Diablo, CA, Kate returns to hunting demons when one comes crashing in through her kitchen window. Now, she just needs to manage to slay demons, solve a mystery, and keep her family form finding out what she really does. Not easy when you have a politically ambitious husband, a 14 year-old daughter, and a two-year-old. But she manages it this time. But what about next time?

Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to revisit this title!

Like many the cover art caught my eye. The book itself was as much fun as I expected. A clever cozy mystery that doesn’t disappoint

This is a fun, entertaining read. I've heard it described as Buffy the Vampire Slayer turned housewife and I agree with that comparison. Not too serious, a little campy, and it's a series so more fun adventures to come!

CD by J. Kenner is book one in this series. A rom/com - LOL read if I ever saw one.
Kate Connor, married mother of two, is a former D. hunter, now she seems retired, but when trouble shows on her doorstep she has to reactivate her skills and connections.
This first book is the introduction into Kate's life. A well done introduction. I loved connecting with the heroine, her clueless husband and her kids. A witty and fun read, fast paced, sometimes action packed. A great read, 5 stars.
