“Hob” by Amy Sheppard is the product of a happy accident. Her oven broke so she had to think outside the box and prepare meals using only her hob.
Well I for one am extremely grateful that that oven broke down, inspiring this book. With 80 recipes, I was spoilt for choice for which recipe to try first. There’s recipes for every possible occasion and craving - brunch, weekends, midweek, quick meals, entertaining and desserts. Not only that, there are meal planning resources at the back of the book. I tried lots of different recipes across all the sections and enjoyed them all. The ingredients are easy to source and the instructions are easy to follow. Many of the recipes work well in a slow cooker too giving you extra flexibility.
This is a brilliant cookbook which I’ll refer to time and time again for our new family favourites.
Thank you to the author, Netgalley and Bloomsbury Absolute for the opportunity to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest opinion

Hob by Amy Sheppard is a great cookbook. Straight forward and simple to read, there are a huge selection of easy to follow recipes to choose from.

A bit different from the usual Bloomsbury / Absolute fare (the people who brought you Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Tom Kerridge, Paul Hollywood etc) but in a good way! Following in the tradition of the Roasting Tin books, this book turns its attention to the Hob and focuses on meals you can make in a short period of time with some savvy and realistic meal planning. With no fat-shaming or pretension, this was a surprisingly refreshing read. I haven't made any of these meals directly yet, but they have influenced how I cook some of our existing breakfast and brunch staples such as poached eggs or omelettes/wraps without my having to directly follow the recipes, which I still found inspiring! An ideal book for families with young children who want to eat healthy-ish without sacrificing any taste or any time. I wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I have, but will continue to enjoy browsing it. Thanks Bloomsbury/Absolute!

This is my kind of cookbook; fuss free. The recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients easy to source, a lot of them are my storyboard stand-bys anyway. I tend to cook on the job for the most part so I already have the equipment required, which in most cases is just one pan, sometimes two. I think it will help people less confident to become more intuitive cooks as often there will be suggestions for ingredients to replace one she has I'm her recipes, usually with vegetables, when it comes to vegetables in a recipe, I'll often replace them with what I happen to have I'm the fridge at the time, so again, this suits me. I'm looking forward to trying more of these recipes,
*Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a review copy in exchange for an honest opinion*

A lovely recipe book with some easy and yummy meals to make. Some of the format was a little difficult to read on an iPhone, it may be a lot better on a different device.

Great and easy recipes and lots of good ideas for quick meals or more complicated dishes - all achieved on the hob with a minimum of pans and fuss. The stove-top pizza is my favourite so far!

Inspirational. I love a good cookbook and this will become one of my ‘go to books’ . Full of good ideas using many staple ingredients. I also like the way the book is divided into sections according to meal types

'Hob' is a great recipe book with fun and tasty recipes that I definitely will be trying out soon! I especially have my eye on the Tuscan chicken and already have the ingredients bought! I love the idea of writing recipes that can be made easily and quickly but are still delicious and allow you to put something on the table that will impress. Although I can't get entirely behind making a risotto without risotto rice I love all the other little tips and tricks Sheppard shares in this recipe book. Also, the photos are absolutely stunning!

What a fantastic book. It is split up to into easy-to-use sections and has pictures and helpful tips throughout it.
The sections are :
Lunch and brunch
Quick Dinners
Weekend Food
Budget Wonders
Low Simmer
Midweek Crowd Pleasers
Sweet Hob
Simple sides
The best part of it all is that all of the recipes just use the hob and the majority of recipes are one-pot meals. It has a range of veggie recipes and recipes ideal for the busy family or people on a budget. This book has something that everyone will want to try.

A really well presented book, most of the recipes seem to have a good quality photo, which I really like. It makes for a very appealing and accessible book; as it’s always good to see what a recipe should look like, especially for novice cooks.
Many of the recipes are straightforward, it’s maybe not for an experienced cook looking for new inspiration. Recipes seem focused on producing family friendly meals, the fewer the steps to produce the meal, the better. That’s also a good thing for many who have busy lifestyles, with limited time or energy to cook complicated meals. There is a market for this book based on these aspects alone.
Hob has a huge assortment of recipes, it would be very easy to pick and cook a range.
The only caution I have is the number of dishes which are fried, often in butter. It’s perhaps, in part, not a book for those wishing to eat healthily, although there are many other styles of cooking included.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.

Loving some of these recipes. Simple food without the faff. Using ingredients that you’ll find in your cupboards along side fresh foods. None of the high priced ingredients that other cook books add to sound fancy, that nobody can taste. I love that there’s recipes I can knock up in my lunch hour or quickly after a long shift.
Thank you to Bloomsbury Publishing for this advance copy

This is a great addition to my cookbook collection. Full of simple recipes suitable for the whole family. I love the addition of the budget section – it will be well used as I am feeding a family of five which isn't cheap!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

80 Recipes - less than one quarter of which appealed.
Whilst I don’t mind an eBook of recipes I don’t think one should ever buy one without first having seen a physical copy to check out the recipes. Whilst there were a number of recipes that I might try out (though I doubt they will become staples in my household but more occasional treats) there were far more that didn’t appeal. Firstly there are the curries, the wraps, flatbreads and fajitas that I personally never eat, then the sheer number of recipes which contain tomato (for which I have a food intolerance) but my main bugbear was that everything seemed to need frying off and I don’t know why but I expected these recipes to be healthier. If you want to buy this book check it out in a bookshop first.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is fabulous! It has the most glorious photos to accompany every single recipe. If that is not enough to tempt you, they are simple to make, minimal kit and pans with reasonable ingredient lists. There is a good range of recipes that look mouthwatering. Where do I start?? I love the twists like 'lasagne (ish)' and 'smore's hash'. I can;t wait to try the Tuscan chicken, popcorn chicken nachos, chorizo marinara...to name a few!
This will make a great family cookbook but I think it will make a brilliant addition to my son's uni box of tricks next autumn!!

This is one of the handiest cookbooks I have ever read. Not only are the recipes simple and easy to follow, you don’t need a lot of different utensils to to make them either which is great.
I have tried a few of the recipes now and will definitely be making more in the future.
Some of our favourites have been
Halloumi and tomato paste toastie.
Sweet chilli tomato and prawn orzo.
Apple and Cinnamon rolls
Popcorn chicken nachos was the recipe that the whole family loved and has been added to out weekly fake away!
A great recipe book that would also make a perfect gift to someone who is a bit of a novice in the kitchen or doesn’t have a whole lot of space or utensils!

Great recipes and easy to follow. Lots of recipes to appeal to families. Well organised with different categories and I particularly liked the fact that recipes with longer cooking time were flagged so that Time pressured cooks can avoid them!!
Some formatting issues in places with parts of recipes in different places - hopefully this will get sorted before publication
An interesting range of recipes - good to expand the range on offer to the kids!

Simplicity is the key to this book. Great choice of vegetarian options too. I think it's a great collection of easy but diverse recipes. Very use at home but also on holiday, camping and caravanning, when you have no access to an oven. It was great to use the Kindle to cook along with, but I will be ordering a copy of the book to make it easier to cook more of the recipes.

An excellent cookbook full of easy but tasty recipes. There's a good mix of meat and vegetarian dishes as well as some truly diet lethal sounding desserts (fried cookie dough...umm OK if I must). I've already tried the garlic potato cakes with tonight's spatchcock (sadly not a hob option that!) and they were a big hit. Plus the devilled crumpets and poached eggs for my lunch which were quick and easy and certainly a welcome change to my usual limp lunches!
I definitely have a habit of collecting cook books and never using but this will be joining the small collection I have that I'll be dipping into again and again!

Absolutely loving this so far!!
Definitely recommend this if you need to spice up your kitchen! So many fun ideas to help you think outside the box and get out of cooking the same meals all the time!

I enjoyed going through the recipes in this book. Good family friendly recipes that have easy to follow instructions.
Nice touch with planners and shopping list pages at the back of the book.
Handy tips given throughout the book.
The thing missing in this is nutritional information either total recipe or per gram information.
Variety of different recipes and broken into categories to make choosing easier.
