This was a humorous book with short chapters to keep the interst of readers. There is just enough adventure and an exciting mystery for kids to solve. I especially liked the character development. It made the characters relatable.

My 9 year old loved this, it kept her hooked. Her review is a bit brief, but she has told me it was very good and she loved the characters in there, especially Pip. She enjoyed the Bake Off style setting as she's a big fan, and the mystery kept her guessing

First up a big big thank you for allowing me to read this book. Sadly, despite all the signs pointing to yes, I didn't enjoy this book. Yes, I picked this book because I love love MG/Children's Mystery books and this sounded like such a fun book with cakes, adventure, and mystery. I also loved that the illustrations were done by one of my fav illustrators: Marta Kissi.
But the writing style is so chaotic and it feels like someone like me, with ADHD, has written the story. Quite often I just lost the thread of the story and I had to backtrack quite a bit to see if I missed anything. Next to that, it just felt like it was rambling. Things just went on and on and on and on and on, and I was like ,please, just get to the story already. I did try to read it, hoping that I could just get used to it, but I never did and I just gave up.
I am giving it a two stars for the illustrations and for the blurb/cover. Also I liked Pip/Joey.

A really fun mystery for younger readers that shows how much trouble children can get themselves into when their imaginations run wild. The characters are fun and the plot worked well (although I never found out why the 'robot' cat beeped!). An entertaining start to what I believe is a new series that I'm sure will be popular in libraries.

Peril at the Bake Off is a brilliant children’s mystery story. Ruth Quayle has captured the essence of childhood when life is one big adventure. This story is about kids being kids – having fun and getting into all sorts of trouble with their cousins.

Bella and Joe are spending the summer with their granny in her quiet village, Muddlemoor. Nothing terribly exciting ever happens there but for the children, everything a mystery and everyone is suspicious. It’s only days before the Great Village Bake Off and Granny’s top secret family recipe has gone missing. Bella, Joe and their cousins, Tom and Pip, decide it’s up to them to solve the case. Suspects, motives, clues and danger lurk around every corner. They need a plan of action so they can save the day – and the Bake Off. Add a stray cat to the mix and you have a hilarious adventure.

Peril at the Bake Off is light-hearted and full of experiences children can relate to. A summer of playing detective and running around with cousins is much better than a multi-skills camp at the local leisure centre and life is always more exciting when you’re keeping secrets from grown-ups.

Readers are going to absolutely love this story and I can’t wait to share it with children.

Thank you to Anderson Press for this fantastically fun book!

Brilliant detective story for younger readers. Three cousins are sent to stay with their granny in her sleepy village over the summer holidays, but with the village bake off coming up, they are convinced someone is out to steal Gran’s secret recipe. The amateur sleuths are determined to solve the ‘crime’.

This is a great, short chapter book for lower KS2. Children will be able to identify with the characters & will see the humour in some of the contrived situations the cousins get themselves into. I can’t wait to read more in this series.

I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A fun MG mystery with relatable characters & authentic tween voice which KS2 pupils will love, this pacey tale of 3 suspicious young detectives is just the comic relief my class need right now! A hilarious start to this light-hearted series, looking forward to using this next term as our class read.

A brilliant cozy mystery! It was short but sweet. Pip, Tom and Joe were hilarious and fantastic sleuths even though they did get the wrong end of the stick! The mystery was wrapped up nicely as it turns out it wasn't Anthea after all!
The story follows our main characters Joe and his cousins, Pip and Tom. They are sure it's Anthea who's stolen their Granny's secret recipe. Will they be able to solve the mystery?
The plot was fast paced and the writing was hilarious! A lovely Middle grade mystery that I would recommend!

I loved this book and I know my grandchildren will too. I noticed a few instances where there was a space missing between words or between sentences but I’m presuming this is something to do with Kindle formatting? Anyway, three cousins, a granny, a secret chocolate fudge recipe, a neighbour who’s an evil spy, and a robotic spy cat that has to be kidnapped. What more could you ask for? I laughed all the way through. It’s so well written (as if a child had written it!) – you can just imagine these kids talking to each other. I like the way the author used capitals for stress, eg “Tom and Pip did something REALLY BAD.” A brilliant tale, so funny. A lovely children’s book!
