I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Lovely easy read, packed full of information but not written in a heavy manner. Nice to read a different aspect of Newton's life and I like how the author distinguishes between fact and author opinion / story writing.
Would definitely recommend for young readers too.
this was a great historical novel, I loved getting to know the characters and going on this plot with them. It was well-written and I enjoyed it.
Catherine Barton is left an orphan when her mother passes away and sent to an orphanage. One day she is told she has to leave because she is sixteen and they need the bed for a younger orphan. With no where to go she goes to find her uncle Isaac Newton. Being the stereotypical absent minded scientist, he wasn't aware of the death of her mother and her stay in the orphanage and allows her to move in with him.
He is given a job as the Warden of the Mint, which means a move into town. Catherine talks him into letting her follow as a housekeeper and cook.
Although there are historical figures in the book, the rest is a fictional account of the accusations, interrogations, and leading to the trial of William Chaloner and his partners in a counterfeit ring and Newton's attempts and success in stopping them.
I enjoyed the book. Douglas Cornelius is able to weave factions and scientific and mathematical works of Newton throughout. I think my fourth graders would love this book as in introduction into the impacts of Newton on learning, science, and math.
This is a five star read!

It wasn’t something I would normally read, but because of the historical precedent of Isaac Newton I gave it a try. And it was a good little historical fiction book. I really enjoyed what I read and would recommend to anyone. It’s about Newton and his niece, Catherine, who came to live with him for a while after she had to leave an orphanage she had grown too old to be in. And there was this great relationship between Uncle and niece. It was a nice little book. I liked it. I thank #NetGalley and the publishers of #FindingUncleNewton for the opportunity to read and review with my honest opinion.
