This is a great book for parents looking to support their children in all aspects of their mental health and emotional wellbeing. In addition to giving information and pointing out the common pitfalls we can unintentionally fall into, it gives practical solutions we can try. Mindfulness, ‘emotional freedom technique’ (tapping) and journaling to name a few of the techniques we are encouraged to try.
The author is clearly knowledgeable and uses this knowledge practically and meaningfully to enable parents to create situations to use strategies safely and appropriately.
The second part of the book is a dip ‘in and out’ of section - with topics such as ‘anger’ and anxiety that can be used/referred to as and when needed.
Coping with change, bereavement, low self esteem, sleep, friendship issues are just a further selection of the issues addressed.
Reassuringly, strategies to deal with these topics are similar, so a parent / child who needs support in a few of these areas wont have too much new information to learn and process.
Overall I feel that this book is an excellent resource, very much in line with the current ethos / trend toward empowering us to support our own health needs. This book offers important knowledge, advice and strategies to do this.
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
A very well written book, however, I couldn't master the tapping techniques, it was very well researched and thorough, but it just didn't help me the way I expected or wanted it too. I found myself slipping whilst reading and I really struggled to hold my attention, though I got to the end out of curiosity and the inability to leave a book but mainly through sheer will power, I found some parts of the book that made total sense to me but some pages just felt like endless chunks of text that made me struggle to even know what I was still doing here.
With thanks for my free copy for my honest review; to Netgalley, the author and the publisher.
Unfortunately this book didn't help me the way I had hoped. It was hard for me to read and didn't hold my attention. I'm sure it will help some parents out there but it wasn't for me.
This is the second book by the author that I have read and I find this one quite helpful as I deal with kids and students from time to time as my profession demands.
When most parents and guardians do not understand what the children and the adolescents are going through, confused and frustrated not understanding the issues of anxiety, anger, fears and the other common problems they face everyday, more so when they are out there trying to socialize.
There are 2 basic parts of the book. The first part explaining in detail about how to improve connection and understanding with our kids; also how to have a positive mindset in parenting.
The basic principles of NLP and EFT are explored quite well I feel.
There are basic, easy tips about daily wellness habits.
The second part deals with anger, anxiety, how to cope with change, fear of failure, fears and phobias, family relationships/friendship, learning struggles, low self-esteem and sleep issues.
I find this book rather helpful for adults as well.
One of the best books on parenting and how to handle behavioural problems of kids in general.
Thank you author and the publisher for the advance reader copy
Unfortunately, as a parent, I couldn’t go along with the science behind NLP and the tapping techniques.
The book is well written and give detailed explanations and illustrations. If someone is of the same mind, will find useful information in the NLP guide for parents.
I didn’t really find this book to be as helpful as I would’ve liked. It may be something that works for other parents, but it just wasn’t it for me.
Thanks so much to NetGalley for this eBook in exchange for an honest review!
So most studies label this a pseudoscience and I admit it’s a very confusing testament in this book. Using conversation and tapping to dissolve anxiety and other children stressors. I myself was lost part way through the handbook.
Would I recommend or buy? Based on what I read I didn’t find this at all helpful so not sure how it’s supposed to empower kids. It felt like another book I’ve read called The Work and it uses questions to help answer questions about ourself and truth. The tapping part was equally confusing. It was not what I expected but I’m not well informed on NLP or EFT. I’m not sharing this review based on less than two stars.
