Happy Families tells the story of three generations of a Chine family that move to Wales and open a Chinese takeaway.
Amy works in her family's Chinese takeaway and she lives with her grandfather - Ah Goong. One day Ah Goong falls and hurts himself and this is how the story unravels.
It jumps between the present day where Amy is trying to figure out why her father doesn't speak to her grandfather and the past where Amy's mother Joan - Ah Joon grows up with white surrogate parents for a while.
Each generations' story links together and the novel is moving and funny.

I received an advance copy of, Happy Families, by Julia Ma. I just could not get into this book, the characters were ok, if a little dull.
