Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for providing me with a review copy
This series has quickly become one of my all-time favourites. I absolutely love Rhiannon as a character, and I think the quote on the cover- 'Bridget Jones meets American Psycho' is 100% accurate. She's had a real journey since book 1, and as much as I hope this isn't the last we'll see of her, I found the ending satisfying enough that I won't be too mad if we don't get any more books.
That being said, I don't think this series is necessarily for everyone; basically if you can't handle violence, gore and very dark humour then I'd maybe advise giving it a pass. The closest thing I can think to compare it to is Dexter, but this is even better in my opinion.
I don't want to get into the specifics of the plot because of spoilers, but I will say that Caro is the bisexual icon we all need. I thought she was a delightful, if unexpected, addition to the story, and I can only hope to be such a legend in my old age.
Dead Head is the third instalment in S J Skuse’s Sweet Pea series and it picks up just where the second book In Bloom left off. As it’s been a while since I’ve read the first two books, I struggled to recall all the characters and details of their murders, which frustrated me a great deal. However, Rhiannon was still outrageous, hilarious and super entertaining; the lists were back and the writing was amusing, with plenty of action and witty observations, so I enjoyed it. I simultaneously read and listened to the story, and enjoyed the reading more as I didn’t like the narrator’s voice (it sounded too old for Rhiannon) and how she read the story (I often couldn’t tell which character was speaking and the accents were terrible).
Judging by the ending, we can expect another Sweet Pea book and even though I didn’t like Dead Head as much as the first two books, I can’t wait for more hilarious adventures of Rhiannon.
Having read the first two Instalments of the Sweetpea series, I found this one a bit hard to swallow. It’s still well - written, and the narrator is brilliant- but I find Rhiannon’s character narrative unlikely and a bit disappointing. Still a good read but not my favourite
Ohhhh, where to start, it was wonderful to be in the world of my favourite serial killer again. I was hooked from the very beginning.
I listen to the audio book and loved that it was the same narrator as the previous books, the characters were really brought to life.
As with the previous 2 books we are brought into Rhiannon's world. It's dark yet hilarious with many laugh out loud moments. Rhiannon's "lists" also make me question if I may have a serial killer in me, lol.
Highly recommend
Thanks to #netgalley for my ARC
I have been waiting for this book forever! The sweet pea series have easily become a firm favourite that I keep coming back to so I was so excited to read this one, the third instalment. This book is set on a cruise ship whilst she's on her way to get her new identity. This book will be a massive hit with people who have already read and enjoyed the first two books; Sweet Pea and In Bloom, however it does contain swearing and can be graphic in description so may not be for everybody however that I what I love about the book so much. She is a dark, twist funny heroine and I can not wait for the fourth book!
Thank you very much to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book.
I absolutely adore CJ Skuse's books, and have read all of her previous books, so I jumped at the chance of getting the latest book in the 'Sweet Pea' series. It's been a good few years now since the last book (In Bloom) so it did take a little while to get back into the swing of things of where we left off with Rhiannon.
I loved listening to the previous books in the series on audiobook, as I feel it really allows for the humour. I didn't get to listen to audio book for Dead Head, but I still enjoyed the book.
I have missed the complex character of Rhiannon. I was really enjoying this book - particularly the opening, and the parts on the cruise ship. However, when it got to Mexico I felt it got a little bit too 'wild' and the pacing felt really slow. All of the other books in the series I have given 5* but I have had to drop the rating right down due to the Mexico parts.
This is definitely my least favourite of the trilogy, but I still enjoyed it nevertheless. I just cannot get enough of the character - I just didn't like the plot in this book, but the love of the character keeps me coming back! The book ends with the hope of another... fingers crossed!
**Update, I was lucky enough to be given advance copy of the audiobook, and I have really enjoyed listening to this! It's the same narrator (Georgia Maguire) as the other two books in the series. As I have previously mentioned - I listened tot the audiobook for the other books before, and this is the first time I have actually read physical copy in the series. The audiobook is great!! (As are the others) I just wish I could have listened to this before/instead of reading the physical book. I wonder if I would have enjoyed this book more if I had listened.**
Thank you to NetGalley, C.J. Skuse and Harper Collins for an ARC in return for an honest review.
I was overjoyed to see this book available for request. I have read the first two Sweetpea books and loved them. Dead Head did not disappoint! I listened to this book in one sitting. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, literally. I would recommend this series for anyone who enjoys thrillers. I hope there will be another.
