This is a very good, tense murder mystery - that made me laugh out loud. The Smart women are sailing forth again. Set in the Hebrides with lots of atmosphere - and a shipwreck. Not as many murders as last time - but enough to keep you interested. The ladies went on a survivalist and foraging weekend - it wasn't as expected!
Loved it. In fact I read it in one sitting.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher I read a free advance review copy of the book. This review is voluntary, honest and my own opinion.
Isolated islands can be paradise but also nightmarish. Those you are isolated with make ALL the difference. Set in the Hebrides in Scotland, this twisty and unbelievably atmospheric book had my teeth on edge from start to finish. The writing is stunning, intense and uniquely descriptive. It is easy to feel darkness, dampness and suspense and hear twigs snapping and stairs creaking.
Ursula decides it would be a great idea to venture on a survivalist trip with her mother and three aunts. The family is highly dysfunctional and while I didn't really like any of the characters, I liked the plot and subplots. And sometimes you just want to read a book with frustrating characters. In addition to the five women there are five others on the same foray and there is no love lost between them.
Murder strikes. And not just once. There is a lot of mistrust and deception as each person looks over his or her shoulders to figure out the person responsible. The ending is clever. You will want to experience it.
If you like chilling and eerie descriptions with loads of goosebumps, do pick up this book.
My sincere thank you to Joffe Books and NetGalley for the privilege of reading this memorable book!
