Another thrilling and exciting read from this fabulous series. So much going on and intrigue had be turning the pages non stop!
The family secrets were very unexpected and I loved how the reader was drawn into the story by flash backs .
It was interesting to hear the story from Chloe, it gave an insight to her previous behaviour and helped me understand why she acts the way she does.
Dramatic, this book really caught my attention and I really can’t wait for the book in the series now!
Family turmoil swirls around the farmhouse of a local hedgehog rescue. As the owner, Sammie, tries to help whirlwind, easily aggravated cousin, Chloe, the rest of the family deals with their own issues.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It was always Samantha's dream to run her beautiful rescue centre, Hedgehog Hollow, full-time. But just as her wish comes true, she becomes a victim of her own kindness when she finds herself with a house full of guests - all with their own problems and secrets - looking to her for support.
When her self-absorbed cousin, Chloe, unexpectedly turns up at the farm - swiftly handing over her baby to Samantha to care for – trouble is definitely brewing. Especially as Chloe won’t tell anyone why she’s left her husband, James...
As Samantha juggles new hedgehog arrivals, family dramas and her own health challenges, it soon becomes clear that she needs to start putting herself first for once. Little does she know that life-changing secrets from the past are about to unravel and turn their lives upside down...
An honest review in exchange for reading this book from Netgalley and the publishers - Thank you
I am well versed in Jessica Redlands stories and was excited to read this. I was slightly confused in some parts, however, this is because this is the third book in the series and although I had read the first I haven't read the second! so this is entirely my fault :-( I thoroughly enjoyed this book once id got my head round the fact that id skipped a book. I do love it when an author creates a series as the longer they go on the more invested you become in the stories and this series is no exception, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to going back to the second book. There is more than enough information to give you the back story if you were to read it as a stand alone novel.
I’m so happy there’s going to be a fourth book rather than the original planned three. The last 20% of the book felt a bit rushed compared to the rest of it and the other two books so hopefully bits of that will be revisited.
This book heavily features Chloe and her backstory and although she remains an unlikable character for me I enjoyed reading her story and seeing how it fitted in.
It was lovely to read about Hedgehog Hollow again. The writer does really well writing about all the characters and how it all involved the hollow. Loved it
I have read all the books in this series and love going back to Hedgehog hollow. Jessica Redland’s books weave a bit of magic and I am really looking forward to my next visit
The house quickly fills up with family needing help from Sam. Her cousin Chloe is pretty awful to her but in this book we learn what happened to make Chloe act this way.
Sam is still coming to terms with the incident in a previous book and could do with a little TLC herself but she always puts others first. Good job she has the lovely Josh by her side
I do love a book that leaves me wanting to know what happens next.
Thanks Netgalley an the Publisher. I like this author she always writes feel good books with great characters and great locations. Loved this.
Another visit to the hedgehog rescue centre at hedgehog hollow and another gripping story. This time the focus was on the completely awful Chloe. Her story is handled brilliantly but although I could sympathise with what she had gone through I couldn’t excuse her awful behaviour. Sammie was delightful as always but does put up with a lot. There’ll be another in the series and I will look forward to reading that one.
Although this could just about be read as a stand alone - it would be much more helpful to read the other two books first.
The third installment and I enjoyed it. I would read the series in order. Redland says her books are escapism and in the times of covid this is very true. I found this one an enjoyable read, though Chloe still isn't likable. I Understand her trauma has changed her, but I feel like that is used to excuse some crappy behavior.
I love all of this author's work. Wasn't a fan of book 2 in this series but this book certainly makes up for it. Absolutely gripping!
I will literally read anything by this author. Book 2 of this series was a bit of a let down and after the first couple of chapters of this book I wasn't holding out much hope. BUT things then began to become good and I suddenly found it was 1am and I really needed to sleep but couldn't until it was finished!
I absolutely adore this series and cannot get enough of Hedgehog Hollow so to get to the end of the book to find out we have to wait until 2022 for another fix I was devastated.
This installment focuses on Chloe's tale and from the previous books I always thought she was a complete cow to lovely Sammie and wondered why Sammie would put up with her.
We soon find out the reasons behind her awful behaviour and I really felt for Chloe.
Like the other books this is always full of family drama, up and downs, cute Hedgehogs and a real page turner.
I highly recommend you pick up this delight.
Another 5 fat Hedgehogs from me 🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔
Jessica please don't let us wait a year after leaving us on that jaw dropping cliffhanger.
Yet again another wonderful book by Jessica. I love reading about the highs and lows of hedgehog hollow. But this book tells us about why Chloe changed from being a lovely caring person to a ugly resentful and jealous women. An eye opener to say the least. Poor Sam doesn’t half get put upon, even though she is finding life for herself difficult. An then you go and put that ending in, naughty you lol. Cannot wait for the next instalment of hedgehog hollow and can it be saved
Absolutely brilliant. I loved it. The third in the series, you can read alone .Written from two peoples points of view. Loved al the hedgehog parts but the twists and turns were amazing and the ending oh my giddy aunt . Sam is an amazing character and I even warmed to Chloe in the end. You have to read it
I really look forward to my visits to Hedgehog Hollow. I adore Sam, have since the first book. She's had it tough but she's found her HEA with the gorgeous Josh, although she still has to deal with loads of unresolved issues. it was nice to see her stick up for herself. This book was a bit different as it was told from two points of view...Sam and Chloe. Now I am not Chloe's biggest fan but the author gave us an incite into her head and to be honest I really felt for her. it doesn't excuse her behaviour but it explains alot.
I really love this series and really hope that there are a lot more.
I have loved all the books in the Hedgehog Hollow series and I am so glad there is going to be another one. I feel as though I have gained an insight into working in a Hedgehog rescue centre but also it has taught me more about hedgehogs. There are some handy hints and tips at the end to discover. If you have not read the other books in the series I would suggest to do that before reading this one as you will meet the characters and know what their back story is. Sam is the owner of Hedgehog Hollow and she is always crazy busy, she always puts others before herself and never really has any time for herself. When her cousin Chloe and her young son turns up its the last thing Sam needs but because it is her cousin she allows them to stay. Chloe is a bit self obsessed and Sam wonders why she has left her husband. Things get too much for Sam when Chloe decides to be a pain and not help her, Sam is literally left holding the baby. Sam soon is struggling herself. Can she get Chloe to open up and tell her what has happened/or will Chloe drop a bombshell no one was ever expecting? These books are just so good to get away from everything and think about other things rather than what is going on. Also there are some cute hedgehogs too that made me smile. I loved this series and never want it to end.
I received an advance copy of, Family Secrets at Hedgehog Hollow, by Jessica Redland. This was a good book, I still do not like the character Chloe, but the other characters are lovely.
I absolutely adore this series, and I am so happy the author did turn this into a series because I adore the hedgehogs but also the characters, even the ones that make me want to rant and rave.
Sammie is living a fabulous life in helping the hedgehogs at her rescue centre, the traumas of the last year have been intense but now with her forever by her side, Josh, things are starting to go well.
Chaos descends with the arrival of Chloe. With some shocking revelations this latest instalments had be blown away! I did not expect to read what was exposed this time. Wow.
There would be enough to read this as a stand-alone but I would urge you to read the first two books as you would be really invested in their stories.
Jessica creates such wonderful settings and characters; she definitely doesn’t shy away from big issues or lots of emotion.
I cannot wait until the next visit - we’ve been left on a massive cliffhanger for a start but I just know it will be fantastic!
Where on earth do I start? I am reeling from that ending but already excited and impatient to read book 4 even if i do have to wait for Jessica Redland to write it first. However even before that I was reeling from various revelations.
I mean Family Secrets is such an apt title for this book, as we finally get to understand so much more about Chloe, and just what makes her tick.
For this book is written in two perspectives, alternating between Samantha and Chloe. And with Chloe we see her latest impulsive decision which seems completely irrational very early into the book, and she and her baby Sam, arrive at Hedgehog Hollow desperate to stay a while after she runs out on James without warning and giving absolutely no one any logical reason why.
The sheer amount of character development over the case of the book and series so far, for Chloe is impressive and unlike the first two books in the series where I really disliked her, I went through all manner of emotions and feelings towards her and her true backstory. It's eye opening and no matter what I guessed I wasn't quite close to the truth!
Then there is Samantha and wow she has a full house at Hedgehog Hollow and I'm not talking about the hogs, although there are many cute hoglets needing feeding at all hours, and the rescue centre is finally starting to come into its own, and she is even taking on work experience placements and doing school visits.
But the stresses from the previous troubles in previous book are still present and clearly affecting her. I'm trying my hardest not to spoil either this book or book two if you haven't already read it.
For this is one seriously impressive and addictive series. I do though feel that Family Secrets at Hedgehog Hollow although perhaps you will enjoy it as a standalone, that its best to have read at least one if not both the first two books in the series in order to have a full emotional connection to the characters and thus really understand the complicated family dynamics that are in play.
There are a good amount of reminders though to help you along the way though which will help new readers to the series too.
I tend to open and read my books at random on my kindle, and had my eyes closed when my fingers opened this one for me, without knowing what I was reading, even before I got to the end of the first page I recognised it to be a Hedgehog Hollow book and it felt like coming home and I instantly felt very calm and happy. Believe it or not it wasn't a hedgehog that clued me in either but a bench!
With its mix of more serious subjects dealt with in Jessica Redland's trademark sensitive and compassionate way, this is one impressive heart-warming and incredibly hard to put down story that has completely absorbed me over the past 24 hours.
Or as I said at the start of this review, Jessica Redland please write faster I don't want to wait for more from Hedgehog Hollow! I need my next fix sooner than later, for with a series this addictive, it really is a fix!
Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
